3 Fast and Simple Ways to Dominate Google Rankings!

By Michael Small in Google
Email This Post

I got into search engine optimization back in 1998. Of course back then SEO was a lot simpler than today. All the tricks like keyword spamming and invisible key phrases worked like a charm. Better still, little tricks like these were acceptable. Not anymore.

In fact, most old-school tricks don’t work today and many can get your pages banned. This is great news for you. Over the next few minutes I’ll show you how to make Google absolutely LOVE your web pages and help you jump to the top!

This is all you need to know… Search engines today place 90% or more of their ranking priorities on content and links. Keywords are still important, but more so in the text of your pages than in any sort of META tags.

Simple, right? It really is. The first step is to find the best keywords and place them just right in your web page text. Next you need to get great inbound links. And finally, you need to monitor your progress closely (and that of your competition.)

Part 1: How to Find the Best Keywords

Google gets more searches than any other search engine so let’s peek into their database. Check out https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and type in any keyword or phrase you can think of that you believe your target audience is looking for. Not only will it give you tons of data on that and related keywords, it will also provide “Additional Keywords to Consider”, which is a section at the bottom of the page.

BIG TIP; Try to use specific keyword phrases whenever possible. Let’s say you have a web-page dealing with floral delivery. Instead of just the word “flowers”, which has 233,000,000 competing pages on Google, try “send flowers”, which has 1/10th the number of competing pages. Better still, think like people speak (I.E./ I’m sending flowers to my mom.) As it turns out, a lot more people are searching for “sending flowers” than are searching “send flowers” and - here’s the best part - “sending flowers” has less than 1% of the competing web-pages as the search term we started with, “flowers”. Now that’s impressive! You have an advantage over about 99.5% of your competitors with just that single tip.

Now take the top three or four keywords (and keyword phases) and list them in order for best to second best and so on.

Part 2: How to Develop the Best Possible Content

Content is king! If you take nothing else away from this article, make sure you take this. Producing search engine friendly, optimized real-person content is key to your success. Today’s search engines can read a page just like a human would. And thanks to natural text algorithms, the can easily tell if you are writing your pages for real people or just trying to get better ranking. With this tip, you can do both!

First, call a good friend and describe exactly what you want to tell your web visitors. Now write it down, word for word, as close as you can remember it. If you can record it, that’s even better.

Now go back through your text and fit your top keyword as close to the beginning of the first sentence as possible. Now place your number two keyword someplace else toward the beginning of your first paragraph. If possible, try to get your third keyword into the end of your first paragraph or the beginning of the second paragraph.

Repeat this concept using only one of your keywords for each of the next three paragraphs. Try to make it fit naturally toward the beginning sentence or two of each paragraph.

Now do the reverse for the very last paragraph. Put your least important keyword at the top of the paragraph and end with your most important. This shows consistency.

Finally, try not to repeat any keyword more than three or four times per page. Make it flow naturally.

Part 3: How to Get Great Links and Monitor Your Site

Having quality inbound links can account for more than 75% of you search engine optimization success. Getting these links is the crucial step that will get you over the top. Next you need to monitor your progress and your site’s status (how search engine really see it). This will tell you not just where you are - but where you are likely to be. In the old days, we used to do all link work and monitoring by hand - and it took a long time (I averaged about 16 hours per week - per site!) My advice to you is to find a good SEO tool and let it do the work for you. If you get the right product, it’s the best money you’ll ever spend.

I used WebPosition Pro for a couple years but switched to SEO Elite because it has automated linking, which I find to be the most time-consuming aspect of SEO. Both are excellent products for tracking and reporting however.

#1 Pick: SEO Elite http://www.SeoEliteWeb.com Cost = $167 (lifetime free upgrades and no annual fees) My Results: 121 top 5 rankings on Google in three weeks - Mostly 1’s and 2’s. Top Features: Finds best link partners; Automates link process; Provides great Site Monitoring Comments: I bought SEO Elite in 2005 and have used every upgrade - never spending another dime. I retired my other three programs after using this for just three months.

#2 Pick: WebPosition http://www.webposition.com Cost = $389 WebPosition Pro or $149 Standard (plus $99 per year subscription fees for either) My Results: 44 top 5 rankings in Google in eight weeks - Mostly 3’s and 4’s. Top Features: Site Monitoring; Great reporting; Site Critic Comments: I stopped using WebPosition because there were no automated linking capabilities. I did however really like the reporting.

Now you’re ready. Good luck!

Five Steps to Creating a Large Mailing List

By Scott Oliver in Marketing
Email This Post

There are few that will dispute the power of email’s influence. Whether you’ve noticed the spam in your junk folder or the newsletter from your favorite website; email has the ability to make us act - and quickly. Wouldn’t it be great if you could harness the power of email for our business website? The good news is that you can with a good mailing list. But how do you create one? Here are five steps.

Talk to Your Friends and Family

When you have a group of people that you know, it only makes sense that you might send out your business information to them first, right? Send a short paragraph about what your new business is going to do, what it’s going to sell and any other pertinent information they might need. Include a link to your website and to your mailing list to help them decide whether or not to continue to receive the emails. Chances are good that your friends and family will send this email onto any friends they have that might be interested too, creating a longer email list with little work from you.

Put a Sign Up Form on Your Website

With the proper website design, you will be able to collect the information from website visitors needed to send them regular emails. Put this mailing list option at the bottom or to the side of your main email page and then make sure that it’s easily navigated to. This will allow your website visitors to decide whether or not this is something they want to sign up for.

But Also Have an Opt Out Function

If you’re creating the opportunity for someone to be on your mailing list, you also need to create the opportunity for them to easily opt out of it if it’s not something they are enjoying. There should be a link at the bottom of each email you send to them that allows them to opt out when it seems like a good idea for them. This makes signing up something that’s risk-free, which will attract more to your list. In addition, be sure to include a statement that you will not share their information with anyone - that helps people feel like they’re safe from spammers.

Include a Mailing List Sign Up Option Everywhere

On every page you can, try to include methods for your site visitors to sign up for your mailing list. This will encourage people to sign up whenever the mood hits them, plus it will give them multiple reminders that you do have a mailing list that can be easily accessed. Include this reminder on the bottom of each website page as well as in various locations during the ordering process.

Make it Worthwhile to Your Site Visitors

When you want to add more people to your mailing list, it’s a good idea to make it worth their while. Create a contest for those who sign up within a certain period of time or give out free reports and eBooks for those that sign up to receive mailings. You want to also make sure that each email you send out is worth their time. If you’re just sending links to your site or you are only emailing about sales, you might start turning off a customer who doesn’t necessary want to buy something all the time, but who may just want to learn more about the market you are working in.

The goal is to create a large mailing list that will get notified whenever something big and important happens in your business - and that this notification will drive them into action.

How to Increase Link Popularity with Ethical and Unethical Link Building

By Cliff Posey Jr in Linking Strategies
Email This Post

To increase link popularity, you need solid link building techniques. Link building allows you to establish relevant inbound links to your website, which in turn increases search engine rankings and helps you get traffic.

If you aren’t familiar with the different methods people use to increase link popularity and get traffic, the first thing you need to know is that not every link building method is considered acceptable. In fact, some of the methods used to build link popularity are considered so unethical that they can actually get you in trouble with the various search engines.

To help you differentiate between what is ethical and what is not, here is a list of the most common link building methods used to get traffic:

Social Bookmarking

There has been a lot of discussion lately in regards to using social bookmarking as a way to get traffic and increase link popularity. Some people think that this link building technique borders on unethical.

The truth is that it depends on how you utilize social bookmarking sites. If you are an active member of a social bookmarking community who posts links to a personal website and other relevant sites to improve link popularity for everyone, you are doing nothing wrong. If, on the other hand, you create an account and repeatedly submit your own links and nothing else to get traffic, you are participating in spam-like behavior.

Spamming

Spamming can sometimes get traffic to your website, but it is not the best way to build link popularity. Most of the search engines frown upon spamming and have the ability to catch inexperienced spammers within a month or two.

The following link building techniques are considered unethical spamming by the major search engines: participation in unrelated and centralized link farms, automatically generated doorway pages, and false redirects.

Article Submission

Manual and automated article submission is another link building technique that has garnered proven results over the years. Article submission is widely thought to be an ethical way to build link popularity and get traffic. Nevertheless, there are exceptions to the rule.

For example, article submission that is fully automated but not targeted is usually considered spam. It is also a huge waste of time when compared to other link building strategies. If you want to get traffic and increase link popularity, you must submit articles to the right directories.

Buying Links

Search engines often advise against buying backlinks as a way to improve link popularity and get traffic. The reason is because it cheats their ranking system and is therefore considered unethical. Even so, there are plenty of website owners who employ this link building technique and reap great rewards.

If you want to give this link building strategy a try, the key is to start slowly by buying only a few backlinks. Buying 1,000 links in one day looks suspicious. You will also want to be careful as to where you buy your links from. Ten quality backlinks will help you increase link popularity and get traffic; 100 poorly regarded backlinks will not.

Proper Use of RSS Feeds and Promotion of Your Blog

By Andy MacDonald in Blogs & Podcasts
Email This Post

Unquestionably, the popularity of blogging has fueled the expansion of RSS feeds. According to Technorati, about one-third of blogs have RSS feeds. Some people who maintain blogs are publishing an RSS feed without even knowing about it, because some of the blog Web sites automatically create feeds.

In this article, I give a quick overview of blogging and how to use RSS with your blog to gain more readers. If you want to start a blog, i explain where to go next. If you already have a blog, I explain how you can create an RSS feed and use it to publicize your blog.

Bloggers Unite

Blogging has become a movement. Blogs have become influential, and even the mainstream media are taking notice. Web sites have been around for a long time. How did a few daily entries balloon into millions (yes, millions) of blogs and an entire industry?

The early days of the World Wide Web contained lots of personal sites and free information, as people discovered they could post anything they wanted. Still, the great expansion of the Internet was driven by commercial uses.

However, people never forgot those earlier days of personal interests, and they still had more to say. People discovered that they could publish, meaning that they could create a site whose main purpose was to provide updates on anything — current events, social mores, technical advances, and so on — including their opinions on these topics. It was the opinions — well-researched, smartly written, and often funny — that hooked people on reading blogs.

Tip: For lots more on blogging see Ten Simple Tips for Successful Blogging.

Creating a Blog

If you want to create a blog, you need to decide which type of service or technology you want to use. Your choice of blogging tools is an important decision — after all; you’ll probably use that tool almost every day.

The easiest way to start a blog is to use a Web-based service. You don’t need your own Web site, because the Web service hosts your blog for you. You just enter your content into a Web form in your browser and click a button to post your blog.

If you want to run your own Web server, you can. Several blogging programs work on a server. The disadvantage is that you need more technical skills. The advantage is that you have more control over your blog. Also, you don’t have to worry about your blogging service going under or its servers crashing.

Getting started

Obviously, once you have chosen a blogging tool, you’ll be eager to start writing. Perhaps you already know what you want to say — in fact, maybe fully developed ideas are practically exploding out of your head. But for most people it’s a good idea to think a bit about how their blog will develop:

  • Decide on your blog’s purpose. You may want to write a mission statement that describes what you are trying to accomplish and why. Include your expected audience.
  • What kind of content will you include? Do you just want to create a diary-type blog and write off the top of your head? Will you need a source of inspiration?
  • What is the focus and format of that content? Will you focus on one topic or let yourself write about anything that interests you? Will people read your blog because you’re an interesting person, because you write well, or because they’re already interested in a topic that you’re covering?
  • Consider your schedule. How much time will it take you to write a regular blog entry? How much time do you have every day to blog?

Tip: If you’re considering a blog for your business, and you’re already spending lots of time communicating your thoughts via e-mail, blogging probably won’t take you any more time.

Creating a Blog with Your HTML Editor

If you already have a Web site and maintain it, and you don’t need fancy bells and whistles, you may not need a blogging tool at all. For example, perhaps you don’t want to allow comments or responses — this requires some sophisticated programming, which the blogging services offer but which you may not be able to do easily on your own. If you don’t need this kind of feature, you may choose to create a blog on your own.

After all, what is a blog? It’s just some text on a Web page, listed by date. If all you want to do is create a daily entry, you can create one in the same way you create any other Web content.

Maintaining Your Blog

After you’ve created and posted a few blog entries, you’ll establish a routine of maintaining your blog every day or so. The most popular bloggers put aside a few hours each day, usually at the same time, to blog.

Getting input for your blog

Although many people write entries based on blogs or news stories that they’ve read, don’t forget that you should add something meaningful to other peoples’ content. Work on developing your own voice and your own point of view.

Remember: When you mention an outside source, provide not only a link but also a mention of the author and title. In other words, be generous about giving credit to your sources.

Maintaining your blog is more than just posting. If you allow people to add comments, you should comment on some of those postings.

Adding ads

Here’s another consideration for maintaining your blog — do you want to make some money from it? If your blogging service is not free, you may want to at least make up some of the cost of using it.

The main way to make money is to place ads on your blog. If you create your blog on your own Web site, you can use Google Adsense. You get paid a small amount for each time someone goes to your site and clicks one of the ads. Because the ads are appropriate for your site’s content, people are likely to click the ads.

A similar option is Blogads. Advertisers sign up and choose the blogs they want to advertise on. You can sign up to be listed as one of those sites.

On the other hand, it’s perfectly all right to keep your blog ad-free. In spite of the commerciality of the Internet, a strong culture also exists for keeping information and opinion noncommercial. If you’re blogging because you love it, why bother with ads?

Finding other ways to make money

You can ask for donations. Some bloggers use Amazon’s Honor System program, which allows site visitors to donate to your site.

If it’s appropriate for your blog’s topic, you can become an Amazon associate and recommend books that relate to your blog. If readers buy the books, you get a small percentage. Many readers will appreciate your recommendations for further reading and won’t think of these links as advertising.

Publicizing Your Blog with RSS

If you feel that no one is reading your blog, it can be disheartening. But you can’t just sit back and wait for the masses to come to you; you need to let people know about your blog. Just having an RSS feed doesn’t guarantee that people will subscribe. And most people still read blogs by going to the blog’s Web site.

The first step is simply to let people know about your blog. Tell them the URL of the blog and of your RSS feed. Send an e-mail to all your friends and colleagues. Put the URL on your business card. Explain to them the advantages of subscribing to your feed.

If you used a hosted blog service, such as Blogger or LiveJournal, remember that they only list your blog on their sites. Therefore, you need to go out and make your blog and its RSS feed visible elsewhere on the Web.

If you can find other blogs on similar subjects that accept comments, feel free to make constructive comments and include a link to your own blog. Perhaps you can write some articles for online or offline publications and mention your blog in them.

Quite a few sites function as directories just for blogs, regardless of whether they have RSS feeds. People come to these sites to search for blogs on topics that interest them. You can list your blog on some of these sites to help people find you.

Use a combination of blog directories and RSS directories to publicize your blog. Keep your blog interesting, relevant, updated, and useful, and people will come knocking at your door.

Do you have a favorite method for promoting your blog or RSS feed? Leave a comment and share with the rest of us. Who knows it may help you gain another reader

Google Adwords Profit Strategy Basics

By John Lane in Google
Email This Post

google.jpgGoogle Adwords is a very effective form of internet marketing. When designed properly, you can gain access to a large segment of internet users. And, you can access a highly targeted market.

Major components of Google Adwords are the ads and the keywords. Lets take the ads first..

The Title Line For Your Google Adwords
The ads are constructed with four lines. The first line is the title and contains a maximum of 25 characters. Usually the title contains a major keyword or key phrase. Always mention what you are offering in the title.

The First Description To Attract Your Viewers
The second line should mention benefits to the shopper; why he or she should buy from you rather than the other guy. Google gives you a maximum of 35 characters to highlight the benefits of your product or service.

The Second Description To Seal The Deal
The third line can continue with some benefits but it should contain a call to action i.e.buy, sign up , etc. Again you have a maximum of 35 characters including spaces.

Tie It All Together With a Your URL
The fourth line contains the website’s URL and the last line contains the URL of your destination page or landing page. This lets you determine what you want the shopper to see first and that first site must be relevant to your ad.

When a user enters a search query on Google.com, Google scans keywords on each webpage to see if that page matches the search. Google then shows the webpages that most relative to the word or phrase entered in the search. Google also displays ads in response to search queries. But with ads, Google scans the keywords that you’ve chosen to represent your business. When a user searches for keywords you’ve selected for your ads, your ads can appear next to the search results.

Preparing ads that will get shopper clicking can be difficult. However, with Adwords you will know right away if you are doing it correctly. The number of clicks and price of the clicks will tell you immediately.

Google Adwords provides you with plenty of help. Google allows you to put up as many ads as you want . This way you can compare the results and select the most effective ad. This is called split testing and that can be expanded to the landing page as well. In fact, Google has a routine allowing optimizing multiple variables in the ad and in the landing page. How that works is beyond the discussion here but will be described in a later article.

Using The Right Tools
Writing relevant ads depends upon the keywords and phrases. So how do you get those effective keywords? Start with what you and only you know about your business or product. These keywords of course are related to your business are product. Guess at how people would request your product or service and then you will have a good start at selecting keywords and phrases. Here again, Google helps. Google has a keyword tool that generates keywords from the few words that you might think of initially.

The tool not only gives you suggestions of many other keywords but it will provide you with estimates of the traffic and cost per click level. These are only estimates but the data utilized to calculate those estimates comes from Google’s giant database.

Another keyword tool beyond Google is Wordtracker. In Wordtracker, you can input a root word and it will generate many possible keywords. It also has a comprehensive keyword research capability. Each keyword is evaluated for daily traffic and competition. After you select one level of a keyword, wordtracker allows you to dig deeper and locate more targeted keywords and phrases. Targeted keywords and phrases are really important for achieving profitability.

Utilizing the keyword tools available, you will probably end up with more than enough keywords and you can then began to narrow your selection to the most cost effective ones for your business. Usually two to three words or phrase is best for any one ad group. That number will be easier to control and monitor and is more likely to generate a higher conversion rate. I’ts not the number of click that you are interested in but it is the number of clicks you convert into a customer that counts.

The most cost effective utilization of Google Adwords is getting the best Quality Score for each keyword or phrase. We will discuss how to do this next time.

8 Reasons Why You Need Audio on Your Website

By Bjorn Brands in Blogs & Podcasts
Email This Post

PodcastingIn the past, audio was typically used on websites as background music to increase the “WOW!” factor, but it didn’t really help in communicating with customers.

These days it’s a different story. With broadband becoming ubiquitous and streaming audio technologies getting more advanced, you can now easily convey spoken word over the web. Well crafted audio messages can help you add a personal touch to your website which will make customers feel closer to you.

The presence of your voice welcoming customers, answering questions, or describing the benefits associated with your product or service can boost customer confidence in ways that text and images alone can’t.

Most people have computers capable of playing streaming audio and will find it a refreshing change from boring text. Increased use of the internet along with improved technology now make it easy for you to add streaming audio to your website and create that personal bond with your customers.

Reasons Why You Should Have Audio on Your Site

  1. Customers remember what they hear more than what they read. Did you know that people remember only 20% of what they read while they remember an astonishing 70% of what they hear? That’s three and a half times more! Your audio message will help you to stick into the minds of your customers longer.
  2. Audio boosts your credibility. The sound of your voice adds personality to your website and helps customers identify with you. Customers buy from people who they feel they know and trust, and using audio can help you achieve this.
  3. Audio keeps customers on your site longer. Audio can keep customers on your site longer and you give you more time to make the sale. It can be used as an additional resource or tool for customers to familiarize themselves with your product or service while browsing your site.
  4. Audio increases your subscription rate. Using a personal audio message to get customers to sign up for your newsletter can raise subscription levels by up to 400% more than using traditional subscription marketing techniques. You can also use audio as a part of an online course that people can subscribe to. The lesson that includes an audio in our free online meditation course gets opened most, leads to the largest number of sales and receives the best feedback.
  5. Audio enhances newsletters, ezines and blogs - which leads to profits. You can spice up your newsletter, ezine or blog by using audio to provide special tips or product updates that keep customers interested and motivated to buy.
  6. Audio puts you light years ahead of your competitors. Using audio successfully on your site gives you a competitive advantage. Most internet businesses overlook using this effective marketing tool so be sure you’re not one of them!
  7. Audio is easy to use. Being able to put audio on your website isn’t limited to just techies - anyone can do it! Many of the programs available don’t even require you to know HTML or flash. They’re designed to be user friendly so you shouldn’t have any problems taking your website to the next level.
  8. Audio is cheap. You can add audio to your site for as little as $19.95. More advanced audio solutions will only cost you around $97 - a small price to pay considering the many benefits it provides to your website and your customers.

In short, audio gives you an edge over your competitors and allows you to build a personal bond with your customers in a way that’s not possible with traditional websites. When customers feel they know you and can identify with you, they will be more likely to buy from you.

Autoresponders Defined

An autoresponder is a type of software program. By implementing the use of the various autoresponder systems available, you are given the opportunity to reach millions of people. Autoresponders simply send emails to those people that contact you, automatically. However, it is important to understand that the software program that enables this to happen does not produce the emails. You are required to write and set up all the emails that will be sent to individuals that email you. Once you place the email templates into the autoresponder software, and enable them, the program will start sending these messages out automatically.

Is This Spam?

Many people are concerned about spam. Spam is the legal definition for email that is sent on an unsolicited basis. It also refers to emails that are not wanted by a particular receiver, or emails that are not relevant to a particular issue. Spam normally refers to advertising for the purpose of increasing revenue, visitors, and increased page views. Many individuals who find autoresponders interesting often question as to whether or not the use of this system contributes as spam. The answer is “no”. Generally, when an individual sets up an autoresponder, it is for the purpose of relinquishing information in which one has requested about a particular item or service on a website. Therefore, the individual that receives the automatic response is an individual who requested it.

Autoresponders for Free Products?

Many businesses and individuals on the internet have a website. For those that are looking to earn revenue with their website, they often offer a good and/or a service to the people that visit the website. This may include free e-books, ezines, e-courses, and/or newsletters. Many people may not understand how offering a free gift on a website that increase traffic. It is quite simple…you give the visitors a high quality, well researched project, and it provides many benefits. These benefits are as follows:

  • The first benefit of setting up an autoresponder with a free project on your website is that you are permitted the opportunity to prove yourself as an expert in your field. If you provide a solid product, with concrete facts, the individual who receives your free offer is sure to develop some level of esteem in your goods and/or services. Over time, this can drastically increase the amount of profits that you experience in your business.
  • By offering a free product on your website, you can generate a great email list that is full of potential consumers. By signing up for your free product, these individuals are “opting- in” to receive communication from you.
  • By using an autoresponder with a free product that you offer from your website, you can save potentially thousands of dollars each year on communication expenses, printing expenses, shipping costs, and similar methods of advertising. There are numerous free autoresponders programs available on the market today. One of the most preferred among business owners is that which is called “GetResponse”.

How Do I Set Up an Autoresponder?

Most of the time, your website will be linked to one or more domain name email addresses. Some of the email addresses that you may link to your web pages include those that are for FAQ’s, Prices, E-Books, Free Offers, and similar pages. When you set up the autoresponder software, it is important to ensure that you set up a template that is appropriate to the web page in which an inquiry is being made.

For example, if an individual contacts you through the email that is listed through your e-book page on your website, you would want to create an autoresponder that is related to the e-books that you offer. You may want to provide the ability for the person to receive the e-book at half off the normal price, etc….You will set up a preloaded template that reflects a personalized message that thanks the individual for contacting you. You should let them know that you will answer their inquiry as soon as possible. Then, you may want to add something like “in the meantime, if you would like to check out our latest e-book on autoresponders, you can do so at half price. This is our way of saying thank you”.

Conclusion

Autoresponders are a great way to let others know that you are out of the office, or that you are away on vacation. However, they can also be used to increase the profits that you experience with your home business. By using an autoresponder, you can keep communication lines open with potential customers and develop a long list of potential leads.
