4 months later ... I'm wondering if the organic results part of this has gone away. I definitely see the effects on PPC results as I change my search queries, but organic results ordering is rock-solid the same. Do you have any updates you can share?

What an insightful find. I work for a press release wire service and frequently our clients wonder why certain press releases rank higher than others with the same keyword optimization. THIS explains some of it--it depends on what the searcher was searching for PRIOR. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I find it hard to understand what possible benefit this could bring to searchers? It sounds like Google will be presenting a more and more biased (?) view of the web and, for me, a less and less useful one.

Maybe I am picking this up wrong but the logic seems flawed; if I do consecutive searches on similar themes it is usually because I cannot find what I am looking for. If Google are going to show results biased by those earlier searches then returns are going to be increasingly irrelevant and I start using another search engine.

As for Google trying to create links between unrelated search terms, it is no more than speculation on their part. If they hit the target great but if they more often miss then, again, it is likely to send people to other search engines.
