Traits of a Successful Blogger

By Colin Meunier in Blogs & Podcasts
Email This Post

blogging Blogging is definitely a very powerful way of building your business online, but you need to have some important traits if you want to really milk this cow. The following are some of the important traits that you need to have to make your blogging a significant driving force in your business promotion.

Give time to your blogging campaign

Most people flounder in their blogging campaigns because they do not set an adequate amount of time for blogging. You must spend at least two days blogging for your business and you must do it yourself, without delegating it to anyone else. Why will you need two hours? One hour you can keep aside for finding new blogs to make posts on each day (trust me, I have lived through this and I know for a fact that it is not easy to find new blogs each day) and the other hour you should keep aside for actually making the posts. Since blogging is actually a fun activity (at least I think so), you can keep it for the times in your day when you feel like you want a diversion from your other brain-deadening work.

Mingle with the crowd

It is very important when you are blogging to go with the drift. Read the previous posts to understand what people are talking about, and when you make a post yourself, you must take care to continue with the conversation and not put a break in it. In every post, make sure that you put your perspective across. This is what people really want to read.

Have your own blog too

This is quite obvious, but you will be amazed at the number of people who simply scavenge on other blogs with their business website link but do not maintain blogs of their own. This is a very serious fallacy. First make a blog of your own and then start blogging on other blogs. This way, you will be able to promote your blog, and through that your website in your posts. You can realize how much better that will be for bringing in targeted traffic to your website, can’t you?

Be well informed

When making your posts, do not come across like a nerd. First, research on what you are going to write about and make sure of the facts. Then, and only then, make your post. If you write something that’s an obvious mistake, it will definitely create a bad impression on the reader and will do more harm than good.

Write in an appealing manner

You do not have to be a literary genius to make a blog post, but you sure must have the writing skills to get your point across. Write in a friendly tone because blog-savvy people like to read such language.

Educate yourself on blog marketing methods

You will need to learn what link sharing is. This is the process of writing on other people’s blogs so that they write on yours and you can promote each other’s links. That way you are both mutually benefiting because the traffic is increasing. You have to do this kind of link sharing quite frequently with different blogs so that you increase your chances of getting visitors.

These were some of the most essential points you need to remember when you are promoting your website through blogging. However, these are by no means exhaustive. As you blog more and more you will learn many more strategies that put your blogging strategy at the top spot of your web marketing campaign.

Turbo-Charge Your Traffic with the Simple Power of Words

By Dave Foster in Writing
Email This Post

article writing You have to admit, at no time in the past has it been easier to earn money from writing than it is today… thanks to the power of the internet!

I’m not talking about being paid to write, which (unless you’re Stephen King or J. K. Rowling) is pretty much perceived as a minimum pay service. I’m talking about leveraging your written words to draw readers (like a magnet) to a website that you own, from where you can market, sell and resell numerous information products for profit.

Like everything online, success depends on one thing and one thing only… volume of traffic (ie: the number of people who see your site).

It has emerged that one of the most proven and cost effective traffic generation methods available to website owners also happens to be the one task that most website owners try to avoid… that is writing articles.

Yet, writing articles is one of the very best ways to create a constant flow of targeted traffic to your website. With a little effort and a sound, repeatable formula, you can easily write articles that are guaranteed to:

A: Draw traffic to your website

B: Create Ad copy to sell you products

C: Strengthen your presence and credibility on the internet

Using the following techniques can gain the attention of the search engines and get your products and ideas noticed by real people at the same time.

There’s no mystery about the basic structure for writing articles. Each one should have a beginning (the lead), a middle (the content) and an end (the conclusion)… not too difficult is it?

There is however one added ingredient you need to ensure that your writing is picked up by the search engines and subsequently attract a steady flow of traffic. That extra ingredient is ‘Targeted Keywords’.

Please don’t be put off by the idea of writing an article structured around keywords. The process is very straight forward… you can click on the link in the resource box at the end of this article to view a short video which explains the step by step process in more detail.

Once you’ve done your keyword research and have a final list of words or phrases you want to use throughout your piece, do the following:

1. Use your keyword (or keyword phrase) once in the title

2. Use your keyword (or keyword phrase) once in the lead

3. Use your keyword (or keyword phrase) a couple of times in the first paragraph

4. Use your keyword (or keyword phrase) in a scatter pattern throughout the content of the piece

5. Use your keyword (or keyword phrase) once in the conclusion

Using this basic structure (keyword-focussed title, lead, content and conclusion) will guarantee that your article gets the attention of search engines and also human readers.

This sure-fire structure is your most effective traffic generator yet, but wait, there’s one more thing! A secret weapon which almost no one else on the internet is using… it’s your local library.

A visit to your library to find material you can use within your article structure gives you a massive offline advantage over just about every other internet marketer or writer.

You see, if people are writing articles which include the keywords “japanese garden” for example, and conduct research purely online, they are highly likely to see other very similar articles written by people doing exactly the same research.

Taking your research offline, using books, newspapers and magazines for your source information, provides a totally new perspective which is far less likely to be seen in other online articles, putting you way ahead of the competition.

Use that research material together with your keyword-focussed article writing structure to produce something in the range of 400-600 words and you have your article.

Now, don’t panic, writing 400-600 words is no big deal. Think of it like this. One double-spaced page with a one-inch margin all around will hold about 200-250 words. If you’ve done your research and taken notes, the chances are that you have more than enough ideas and information to fill a minimum of two such pages.

Using the previous example “japanese garden”, you could then title your article “Seven Steps to Japanese Garden Heaven”. Okay, maybe not the sharpest title, but it would certainly tell human readers (and the search engines) what your article is about.

Take the research you’ve done and split it into seven major benefits for people searching online for information to help them create their own Japanese Garden.

Your lead might be something like this: “Imagine the calm and simple serenity you could enjoy strolling through your very own Japanese Garden…”

Then take each of the seven steps you mentioned in the title and turn each one into a section for your article. If you want a short piece, make each section one paragraph long. If you want something more substantial, make each section two or three paragraphs long.

When you reach the conclusion do these two things:

1. Sum up your article’s lead or title in your final paragraph (including the keyword or keyword phrase)

2. Quit!

Use this basic structure for writing articles and you’ll find it amazingly easy to create very successful, keyword-focussed material that will bring visitors flocking to your website — even if you don’t think of yourself as a writer!

Linking Practices – Part 4 of 3: The Unconfirmed

By Robert Cerff in Featured
Email This Post

linking strategiesHere in part four of “Linking Practices” we will cover how to maximise the benefits of those links we discussed previously (check out part 1: “Links Defined“, part 2: “Links Applied” and part 3: “Link Tricks“).

Okay, so you’ve already noticed that this is part 3 of 4 (you did notice, didn’t you?). After all it is commonly known that the best trilogies come in fours. These are unconfirmed ideas. I don’t think anything can really be classed as a myth or truth in SEO simply because what holds true today may not hold true tomorrow or vice versa. That’s why I refer to these as ideas and not myths. I guess that’s what makes it all so very exciting.

How Article Writing Can Increase Your Website Traffic

By Michael Tasker in Website Traffic
Email This Post

website traffic In today’s highly competitive online world, the importance of attracting highly targeted traffic to your website cannot be overemphasized. Directing web traffic to your site can be your only means of survival. Getting a high search engine ranking can be very difficult though fortunately, there is plethora of website promotion strategies you can use to drive traffic to your website.

There is a wide variety of strategies you can adapt to drive traffic to your website, from advertising to affiliate marketing. However, most of these techniques require some form of payment. However, there are ways to promote your website and increase your web traffic without spending anything. Writing articles is one of the best web site promotion strategies you can use, and they can be very effective. How, you may ask, can writing articles help improve your web traffic?

Here are the top six ways in which it can help explode your website traffic.

1.Larger potential audience

When you write good articles, it is a disservice to you and your website not to share them with other people. You can post your articles in your website or you can submit them to other sites such as e-zines and online publishers. By submitting your articles to these sites, you give exposure not only to your ideas but also to your website and thus increasing website traffic. Simply include a link back to your site or include your information in the resource box. With this, you get exposure and free advertising as well. Submit your articles to popular e-zines and take advantage of their popularity. Other sites who find your article relevant may also link back to you. Thus, you increase your link popularity, which is one of the most important strategies in the internet world for high webpage ranking and more website traffic. Remember that most people are looking for information online and by filling this need with your quality article, you may reap the benefit of more exposure and thus higher web traffic.

2.Free Advertising

By submitting your articles to other websites presents an opportunity to advertise your website without paying fees and increase your website traffic. Although you should avoid marketing language in your articles and make it informative and useful to your readers, you can always include your site’s link in the resource box. In addition, by making your article relevant and helpful to your readers, you are making a good impression for your website, which could ultimately lead to a visit to your website and hopefully a purchase. Good quality content in an article is far better and more effective than a few lines of ad space. You have a very special opportunity to presell your product or service to your prospective customer.

3.Gain High Search Engine Ranking

Another easy and free method of gaining website traffic is to create a new web page for your article in your website. Optimize your article to make it search-engine friendly. Use top-ranked keywords and Meta tags that can give your website a high search engine ranking. As soon as you upload your new webpage to your server, search engines will spider through it and you can gain an increase in search engine ranking. Remember that search engine optimized content is a very effective strategy to gain a high ranking in search results.Relevance and quality is still the most important things to consider when writing articles and it will be doubly useful to your site if you make these articles search-engine optimized.

4.Increase Link Popularity

Instead of looking for other sites who would want to establish reciprocal links with your website, you can simply submit an article to other sites. Just do not forget to include a link to your site in your resource box. When these websites pick up and publishes your article, you automatically get a link partner. Try to get as many link partners as you can. Link popularity is one of the factors used by search engines in determining search engine rankings.Higher search engine rankings will most definately lead to higher website traffic for you. Make your article especially useful and appealing, so that more websites will be encouraged to publish it.

5.Establish a Good Impression and Reputation

By writing excellent, original and relevant articles, you not only give your site exposure and increase traffic, you are also creating a good impression on your prospects. Encourage more people to visit your site and do business with you by establishing an impressive reputation through your articles. Be seen as an expert in the field and your will ultimately gain more customers eager to do business with you.

6.Enhance your credibility through references and testimonies

Certainly, your articles are going to receive feedbacks and testimonies when you publish them in e-zines and free article sites. Record these positive feedbacks and comments and use them as promotional material in your website or in any of your advertising efforts. Your credibility will be greatly enhanced by these feedbacks, as it will create a good impression on your prospects as well as your existing customers. In this highly competitive world, excellent credibility and trust may be the only things you need to attract new customers or make loyal patrons out of your existing customers. Original, relevant, useful and pertinent articles are important tools you should utilize to improve and explode the amount of traffic that visits your website and ultimately becomes your customers.

Web designers, what spiders want from you?

By Ahmed Bassel in Web Design
Email This Post

expert htmlAs a web designer what should you know in order to build a search engine friendly website, what points you need to cover and what tools you need to use.

First let’s all agree that we professional web designers do write good semantic markup and not the old fashion table based designs. This is something essential, why? Because search engines are just like people, they don’t like to read a lot of unnecessary markup and get board quickly that they might leave your website before they crawl it all. They also can’t determine which part of the markup is important and which is not such as lists, menu or titles.
That’s why you should make sure that you are inserting the right markup in the right place. I’m not saying that writing the semantic markup will boost up your traffic and put you at the top of the SERPs but it will make crawling and understanding of your website much easier.

Now how do we make the search engine spider while visiting our website knows the good pieces of that site? That’s very simple and we will come to it.

Header

Let’s start our journey; what you need to do first is to add the regular Meta data at the top of your HTML header, title tag followed by keywords tag, and finally the description tag - in this order; then you can attach JavaScript’s and CSS files. Why? Because search engines will read these pieces of information the first thing, so if they are at the top you will make their life much easier.

Please note that every page has its own unique Meta data, so don’t duplicate the Meta data and use it on every page of your website.
Footer, the power

Let’s tackle something else, let’s talk about the footer. Footer where you add the copyrights and some other links is a good place for another navigational element using your keywords listed in <UL> as you did with the navigation above.

This is not spamming and we are not stuffing the page with tones of unnecessary links, for some websites this could be very good especially if your website have long pages, so when users reach the end of the page (if they did scroll) they will find another navigational assistant.

Your body, the gold mine

Now, let’s go to the next part of your exercise, it’s the body; the base of all the good information that search engines are crawling to find.

In the body of your HTML make sure to start your markup with the menu or your navigation DIV and give it an ID call it navigation or menu or whatever you want to call it, by this the first thing search engine finds when it comes to the body is the navigation where usually your most important keywords are listed there.

Put these navigational elements in a list <UL> because that’s what they are; and each one of them are titled with a description of its function. By this; search engine can crawl your whole website (Make sure that your navigation is consistent and exist in every page of your website, this is purely usability issue).
Note: If you are using flash, images, or JavaScript’s navigation then you better stop that as they are unrecognized by search engines and not accessible or usable at the same time.
Now you have built your navigation with links of your most important keywords and told the search engine that these are important items (as they are listed at the top of your body tag and are built as links, and each has its title attribute). Isn’t that’s fun and simple?

Note: adding the navigation at the top of your body tag doesn’t mean that it will appear at the top of the page, with CSS you can control that and float it to the right or left on your page.

Now we’ve covered two of the website parts, lets’ now dive in the most important part of your page. The content part where all the good stuff could be found (assuming you are building a good website that can benefit the mankind).
Since this part of the website is totally different from website to another and from webpage and the other even in the same website, so I will give general recommendations.
First start your content area with breadcrumb, breadcrumb is something very important for every website, it tells the users where they are, and it’s a good place to add your keywords to it with descriptive title attributes.
Breadcrumbs are supposed to be at the top of the content area and, they are the first thing a search engine read when crawling this area.

Second add to your content area the most important keywords as heading for that part, use <H1><H2><H3> for that. By this search engine spider will understand that you are pointing it to an important area of your website. The idea is to use the appropriate markup to present your content.

Note: it’s not recommended to stuff your page with keywords and links, so use them wise and carefully or it will turn on you. What is good for users is good for search engine spiders as well. Search engines are tools people use them to reach their goals.

As a web designer you can control the placement for each element inside that area and according to it’s impotence you can take it upper from the markup side.
Your recommendation for the layout is very important in this stage, that’s why you should have a strong understanding of the nature of every page in the website and every section.
Connectable

Try to make your pages reachable by two to three clicks and are connected to each other where I can reach the first page from the third one and vise versus. You also want to decrease the links to external pages, so avoid elements as much as you can that are pointing to other website (this is differ from website to another depending on their nature and objective).
While we are talking about links; put into your mind to limit your page links to 100 according to Google recommendations.

Always use title tag and link attributes for your images and links, this is very good place to add extra keywords (but don’t use this to spam the spiders).

File size is considerable

While building your page always remember light is good, so try to avoid 200KB websites and try to limit your self with 30 to 40 KB with higher text to code ratio.
Rich Internet Application

Try to avoid adding your content that has your most important keywords inside flash, JavaScript’s, AJAX or images. Don’t hide that valuable content from the search engine spiders. Always remember that building a website is for professional and you are that one, your recommendations should be for the client and the user benefit.

Let’s sum it up

I think by this I’ve reached the end of the story on how should you as a professional web designer build your website, what are the good elements and how to structure your layout. You should know that there are a lot of elements that control website ranking, what we’ve discussed here was the web designer part of the equation and nothing more. Always depend on the standard instead of trying to work around the system.

My aim of this article is to highlight the web designer part for designing usable and in the same time search engine optimized pages.

The Quickest Way To Get Cheap Sustained Website Traffic

By Willie Crawford in Website Traffic
Email This Post

website traffic During a recent radio interview, one of the callers asked for several ways to get fast, cheap, sustained website traffic. She added on top of that “tall order” that she didn’t want to use pay-per-clicks!

Digging deeply into my toolkit of traffic generation techniques that had actually work beautifully for me, I suggested joint ventures and article marketing. Then I had to admit that article marketing often doesn’t produce an immediate flood of traffic but that it can be sustained and highly targeted.

Joint ventures get you fast and cheap traffic because you’re arranging for those who already have the attention of your ideal customers to send them to you. You’re convincing those who already have the trust and respect of your ideal customers to point out to them that you can help to solve their pressing problems.

My “answer” to the question of the quickest way to generate sustained, inexpensive website traffic still is joint ventures. As a joint venture broker, and Executive Director of The International Association of Joint Venture Brokers, I’ve seen first-hand how large, successful joint ventures with just the right partners can deliver 7-figure days.

However, the joint ventures that so typify product launches in the Internet marketing niche often miss delivering real “sustained” traffic. They are mostly “flash in the pan” launches where the traffic flow dies-off even faster than it builds up.

A better option for generating inexpensive, sustained, targeted website traffic is an affiliate program, or strategic partnerships. The strategic partnerships can even BE an affiliate program, where the partners have agreed to promote certain products within that affiliate program contributed by various members of the alliance.

In ultra-competitive niches, such as Internet marketing, where you often see dozens of new product launches per week, strategic alliances are almost a “requirement.” It’s sometimes so difficult just to get noticed that the secret to breaking through the clutter is TEAMWORK.

You often need to find a group of likeminded individuals, and then work to jointly develop, launch and promote group products and projects.

An example of a product launched using this model is the ebook “20 Ways To Make $100 Per Day Online” (http://20Ways.org). This ebook was written by members of The Internet Marketing Inner Circle (http://TIMIC.ORG), then group members created the buzz that got the product noticed and eventually started other affiliates promoting it.

The “20 Ways” ebook had a viral twist to it too though, and that’s what created and will sustain it’s growth. That viral aspect is the customer-only affiliate program. A customer is eligible to register as an affiliate, and then use their affiliate link to sell the ebook at 100% commission.

The 20 Ways Ebook was indeed launched via a strategic alliance, an affiliate program, and viral marketing. It’s a launch formula that you could easily model, and use to generate a steady stream of quick, inexpensive traffic.

Some would look at the “20 Ways” ebook though and ask “What’s the point - if you then give away 100% commission?” The answer is that you need to build-in backend sales. Add links to your product that drive repeat customer back to you, or offer additional products to those customers on your download pages.

When I further contemplate the question of the fastest, easiest, cheapest ways to generate sustained website traffic, I would still have to say joint ventures… and an affiliate program. An affiliate program fits the “inexpensive” criteria because you only pay for performance. If the traffic doesn’t convert to sales, it costs you absolutely nothing. Any costs involved in an affiliate program comes from revenue that you wouldn’t otherwise have anyway.

The only twist missing from the “20 Ways” model that I would incorporate in hindsight… is to perhaps make some part of the ebook rebrandable. Perhaps use software such as Viral Document Toolkit to allow customer who buy resale rights (as an upsell) to change links within the ebook. No kind of resale rights are offered for the 20 Ways ebook, but it is a twist that you might want to consider for one of your products.

Anyway… joint ventures, an affiliate program, and releasing viral rebrandable products are all proven methods of quickly, easily, and cheaply setting in motion a sustainable flow of traffic!

Website Marketing: Dramatically Increase Your Conversions with a Clear Call to Action

By Donna Gunter in Featured

google adsense One of the things I often notice on websites is that I’m not sure where to go or what to do when I arrive. There are those websites that are simply online brochures that tell me all about the features of a product or service, but don’t ask anything of me. There are other websites that give me a headache, as they try to send me in too many directions at once. When faced with too many choices, I become overwhelmed and ultimately leave the site without taking any action.

How do you get your visitor to stay on your site and convert to a prospect? By presenting one clear call to action on every page of your site.

HubPages Equals Free Traffic

By Jack Humphrey in Web 2.0
Email This Post

social networking Many of you may have heard of Squidoo which is a competitor of Hubpages.com. Basically both of them are a “free-hosted community of content producers”. Both Squidoo and Hubpages can be “grouped” into the Web 2.0 movement - where user generated content rules.

If you are already familiar with Squidoo, the your entrance into working with Hubpages will be very straightforward. Both Squidoo and Hubpages SHARE REVENUE with their content creators.

What Makes Them Similar, Yet Different?

From HubPages.com: “Hubpages purpose is to provide easy-to-use tools and traffic to help anyone to produce content and monetize their knowledge by creating webpages. There will be monetization programs to choose from consisting of products, advertisements and lead generation tools that each person can easily incorporate into their pages.

Hubpages will split revenue with the content creator. The pages are organized in the Hubpages website based on algorithmic quality index that promotes the best pages throughout the hierarchy (based on tags) of the website.

Each author will earn a reputation score called a HubScore that can be referenced to meter the quality of the content by an author. Hubpages will be positioned to take advantage of the significant numbers of new web content providers that want to supplement their income through content like many people do on eBay by selling goods.”

From Squidoo: “We divide up the money we receive in a very public way. First, we pay our bills. That’s direct out of pocket expenses like rent and servers and salary and benefits expenses (our CEO doesn’t take a salary, and neither does our board of directors).

Then, with no other deductions, we pay 5% of our post-expense revenue directly to the charity pool, 50% directly to our lensmasters and retain the rest to pay off investors and employees.”

So, other than the obvious revenue sharing, is there any other reason to consider using Hubpages? YES! As Hubpages is considered an authority by Google, you are able to make money with the Google Adsense that is on your hubpage.

Developing content on Hubpages should become an important part of your overall web marketing / promotional strategies.

In addition to your actual ‘hubs’ ranking on the various search engines, you can link directly to your other websites! And guess what? These backlinks are being ‘counted’.

So Hubpages can help you strengthen your entire marketing presence and ‘network of sites’. One of the best things about creating Hubpages and Squidoo lenses is that it can be outsourced.

Outsource the writing, and by doing so, you free up your time to create more Hubpages. Another great aspect of any free content hosting site, is that they have already built-in traffic from other members, and if you are applying your linking knowledge to this, you will be creating tons of back links…Power Linking!

Web 2.0 properties such as Hubpages and Squidoo have become an important part of our overall traffic strategy and works well in any niche market.

Remember, your competitors are most likely NOT on Hubpages so it is still a ‘land grab’.

Discover Secrets to Gain Fortunes Eliminating Writer’s Block, Forever

By Dan Lok in Writing
Email This Post

website trafficBook publishing, information publishing, however it’s called. It can create a wealth of fortune for you.

However, what most people understand about publishing means they have to do something big. They have to be really knowledgeable about the subject they want to publish. They had to be real good with writing.

But when does writing have to be a hard thing?

Here’s why: Long have we tried to write, and time after time we experience what we call writer’s block. The fact is, writer’s block can never have to be a problem at all - as you’ll learn why in a while.

Then, the world never cares whether you’re knowledgeable about something, they care when you’ve delivered to them in a value of some kind. Why do you think someone would want to buy a book from you? They wanted to learn something they can change their lives in, and further improve their quality of lives as well.

Here’s where researching comes in—but we’re not speaking about the average research. Sometimes people think research is a difficult feat requiring hours upon hours of effort, but with what you’re going to learn from me in later articles, you’ll find researching a petty little task to do, and you can create greater results from my technique!

We’ll talk about writer’s block here.

You see, the only reason why you have writer’s block is because you’re editing. It’s summed up in this one sentence.

Whether or not you’re editing doesn’t matter, but when you feel a block of your mind from writing amazing words, it’s because you’re giving yourself judgment over your writing process. It doesn’t have to always be this way.

And here’s a secret to eliminate writer’s block forever if you would but understand its true value and use it:

Write FAST. Write really, really fast.

I will teach you how to do this even clearly on the next subsequent articles I will be sharing with you which you can find on my web site, but right now here’s the most important thing you need to eliminate writer’s block forever.

To quote one of the world’s current greatest science fiction writers of all time, Isaac Asimov (featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for his prolific writing), here’s what he says when asked by a reporter what his secret is to becoming such a prolific writer: “I guess I’m prolific because I have a simple and straightforward style.”

Little did people really deciphered the true meaning behind his quote.
