Another reason Google will always remain in control is because they will either buy out new competitors or copy their ideas. What happened to originality? Not only that, but as long as you have a major corporation working against small businesses, it will always remain the same. It takes the average Joe a year to do what they can in a day.

I don't thought that any new search engine can beat Google. Google is major and best from all search engines. People like it due to its advanced features and relevant result.

Every time some new engine or web 2.0 site comes out from one of the big 3 then there is talk all over the web about if it will be better then google. With all the money google has it won't be long before they see what is happening and decide if it is worth duplicating, buying or ignoring.

Wolfram Alpha, although a useful resource, will have it's place, but never to the extent of Google.

I also like Bing... the name is rubbish but the I like the look and feel of using Bing.

It is nice to have a choice of search engine to use but I do feel that the majority of home users will never be exposed to the lesser known engines.

Well, of course everyone is biased to their choice of search engine, but they come and go. In 1999 the hot search was Hotbot.com does anyone remember that one? Then there was Yahoo (still struggling along). AOL search was big for a time until people realized they didn't have to use AOL's search or browser. Then MSN came up with a search. Google came in here sometime, but it took time and effort to get where it is today. But don't put all your eggs in one basket, because Google like any other search engine is going to be eclipsed by another eventually. Google is really biting off more then it can chew (repeating Yahoo's mistakes all around.) acquiring so many different net companies and brands that it may end up hamstringing itself in the long run.
