We've been using social bookmarking as a core part of our services for about 9 months. We see the impact of having a steady stream of incoming links in our Organic Search Marketing efforts as, like the author said, it also allows you to build targeted traffic from those sites. I don't know how long the search engines will condone its use but for now, it's a great way to build a brand in the social metasphere.

Tinu, I'd like to add some lines to "credibility" through social bookmarking. As an ODP editor I sense in social bookmarking the spirit of young ODP! You mention it talking about trusting a friend's opinion: social WWW has made an editor from everyone of us and at the same time we all are the solid ground for viral marketing and link building. Not to mention the nowadays hard times, this recesion circumstance has turned "leasure" sites like Facebook or Twitter into a boiling teapot of pro networking and alliances, my example: I'm now in touch with many qualified web designers who need SEO added value from me Finally I think we'll see a big bang (uh? Is it banging now? :) in social web when implementation of XHTML+RDFa becomes wide spread and standard for the masses because then the spiders will understand the flavor of links as an extra sense apart from algorithmic digestion of text strings.

Definetely agree.Good article.You need not only more links, but mainly quality links.For example start a group on a major social bookmarking network.Prove you do not spam, only write good stuff.
