I disagree with point 8, a background image can be small enough to load quickly, it can also beset to load after all other page content, and as for looking amateur….. well I cn list a ton of sites that look professional with a large background image – just check out this post on webdesigner wall – http://www.webdesignerwall.com/trends/80-large-background-websites/

This advice is so simple really but you would be amazed at how many sites are not following it. I definitely agree with the advice of ads, I am fed up of being over whelmed with them when I am surfing the net.
