social mediaWhen George Clooney was recently asked about his take on Facebook at the Toronto Film Festival, his response was short: “I’d rather have a prostate exam than a Facebook page.”

Now, that’s probably understandable when movie studios (his potential clients) have his number on a speed dial, and pesky paparazzi (freebie seekers and unqualified prospects) chase after his every move.

But unless you already have more prospects and high quality clients than you and your business can handle, your approach to Social Networking should be drastically different.

Frankly, a little over a year ago I considered online networking a total waste of time. Fortunately, I was able to recognize how wrong I was. And I wasn’t the only one that had a change of hearts on this.

After Dell revealed they generated a cool million dollars in extra sales in 2008, (ahm, make it a cool $3 million by June’09!), many other companies large and small started paying attention to this social networking “fad”!

Many times, when you sign up for a free giveaway or purchase an item, you are taken to an OTO (One Time Offer) page, where you’ll be given the opportunity to purchase a “never to be seen again, one time offer,” which is a product that has been discounted for one time only during this one particular transaction. In this transaction scenario, you have two choices: either buy the product now at the special discounted price, or continue on without buying the product and lose access to the special pricing opportunity. However, you can usually buy the product later, but at a higher price.

Normally, these types of offers drive me crazy because there are usually 3-4 “one time offers” bundled together. When you decline one, another one pops up. Sometimes it feels as though the one time offers will never end! However, after watching several videos recently as veteran Internet marketers touted the benefits of the OTO, I wondered if I might be able to use these in my business without being slimy.

Here’s how I decided to implement this strategy:

  1. Determine the offer. One “one time offer” is quite sufficient for my needs at this point, so I looked through my inventory of products and made a decision on what to offer as a one time unique deal.
  2. Name the price. Your OTO needs to offer enough of a price reduction to make it truly attractive to your prospect. In many cases, that means a savings of 40-60% off of the regular pricing.
  3. Outline the order of the offer. In many cases, the OTO is attached to another purchase. You’ll need to determine if your shopping cart can be configured to handle such an offer. In my case, the most natural place for this one time offer is on my ezine subscription thank you page. I have 2 thank you pages created when someone subscribes to my ezine. The first gives instructions on how to opt into the list. The second, called a “confirmation success page,” gives the visitor access to my free giveaway, or client attraction device, once the visitor has confirmed her email address and opted into my list. For simplicity, I decided to keep my confirmation success page intact, and tie the OTO to my opt-in thank you page.
  4. Craft your copy. On your ezine thank you page, give your subscriber instructions on how to get on your list, and below, create your OTO that fully describes what you have available, why it’s a great deal, and the special price that you’re offering. I also use some OTO graphics that I purchased inexpensively to help me get the message across. Be sure that you give your prospect the option of opting out of this offer.
  5. Test your conversions. You can test your conversions in many ways — by changing headlines, graphics, or even at the point you are making the offer. For me, the conversion calculation was pretty simple — was it making me sales? I don’t have the figures yet, as I’ve just started this process, but I’ll keep you updated on how I do.

How much money are you leaving on the table by not using one time offers? Give it a shot, and test to see if it increases your sales.

If you’re new to blogging then it can be confusing when creating your first blog.

For a blog marketing guru though, it’s really not that difficult, anyone whose familiar with blog marketing online will tell you it takes hard work, dedication and most importantly consistency.

For someone just starting out with their marketing campaign, it may seem like a lot of work with little or no immediate return, however, just know that marketing is something that you have to build.

You have to work on it and continue to market your blog.

There are many things you can do to market your blog and get it out there to be seen by the world, one of the most important things is to visit other blogs that are relevant to yours and leave comments.

Doing this gets your blog out there to readers of other’s blogs and in return can get you some new visitors as well as readers.

While all of this might seem confusing at first, after a while you will get the hang of it and it will make sense and fall in place.

Posting on your blog on a regular basis is another way to get new readers, who wants to read a blog that is never even updated?

Would you?

Of course not! So give your readers what they want with new content and give it to them often, post daily, weekly or bi weekly and be consistent about it.

This way your readers and visitors will know how often to check your blog for a new post.

You must know where your traffic comes from, knowing which search engines are directing people to your blog is extremely valuable as is identifying those which aren’t, find out which keywords are driving visitors to your blog too.

If you know all of this then use it to your advantage, write further content using the keywords that work for you and look at the areas where you fall down on search engine results that are sending visitors.

If someone leaves a comment on your blog, be sure to acknowledge it.

No one wants to have a conversation with themselves, and it will only take a brief moment to reply and let them know you appreciate them, otherwise if you have a section full of comments and you have not replied, chances are that you will not be getting many more.

The readers may even drop you off of their list of blogs to visit frequently as well, using your head and treating others as you would want to be treated is a big part of marketing.

Make friends with other bloggers, network with them and find out how they get so many visitors to their blog and what they do to keep them interested.

Exchanging ideas with other bloggers that are successful is a great idea and a good way to make friends. If you want, you can even become friends with other bloggers offline as well.

Use this to your advantage but don’t just take from your conversations though, make sure you share all your own blog marketing techniques with your blogging friends as well.

If you happen to be quoting an article from another source or blog, always be sure to provide a link back to the original, otherwise this is known as plagiarism and something that is looked down on in the world of marketing.

Stealing other peoples content isn’t clever and let me assure you, you won’t get away with it, you’ll get caught trying to pass someone else’s work of as your own when clearly it’s not.

This is not a good way to start off in the blog marketing world.

Blog marketing is a fantastic way to make an extra income and build an online presence letting people know you are there there.

Be patient, use these tips to drive people to your blog, as they become regular followers and you earn their trust you’ll be able to use your blog to earn yourself some money.

Google Monday launched a feature for AdSense mobile that enables publishers to tap into the smartphone mobile browsing experience by allowing them to run larger AdSense ads that are visible on high-end phones. The feature displays only on mobile sites searched on Web-browsing mobile phones such as Palm Pre, iPhone and phones running Android or that have full HTML browsers.

Step No. 3 of every new AdWords campaign, when advertising on the mobile AdSense network, requires a check in the box indicating that the ads will also run on mobile high-end phones. It reads: “iPhones and other mobile devices with full Internet browsers.”

Prior to the launch, AdSense mobile for publishers could only serve up smaller text and image ads on their Web site content. Google had the search tools; now it also offers the content tools. Advertisers can reach consumers with search ads, in-application ads and now on mobile-optimized Web sites.

Think of the feature as an image of the existing desktop tool for AdSense applied to mobile Web browsing. Successful companies tend to attract customers to new products and features by designing them to look and work similar to existing tools. This reduces confusion and the time it takes to get up and running.

Google believes it has solved some of the issues based on numerous platforms and standards that once made it difficult for mobile advertisers to efficiently reach consumers. “If you wanted to run a search campaign on an older WAP flip-phone, you needed to target people by carrier on a specific phone,” says a Google spokesperson. “Because the iPhone, Android and Pre run on full HTML browsers, it levels the playing field.”

Today, the feature is not available for Research in Motion’s BlackBerrys because the phone’s Web browser doesn’t run a full HTML browser. That’s according to the way Google classifies “full HTML browsers.” It boils down to the difference between how RIM’s browsers render HTML code and process JavaScript, according to the Google spokesperson. Unconfirmed rumors suggest that this will change.

The AdSense feature launch represents Google’s investment in technology for high-end devices to make mobile browsing intuitive for consumers, and a powerful tool for advertisers to reach those devices.

The hope is that the feature will help advertisers connect with consumers on the more than 177 million units expected to ship this year, according to Google Software Engineer Danielle VanDyke. In a post on the official Google blog, VanDyke cites Gartner’s global smartphone sales estimates as rising 27% in 2009.

I have always tended to stay away from writing short 400 to 500 word articles. But now I’m seeing that there are some perks to writing short, snappy, get to the point fast articles.

The Perks of Writing a Shorter Article

  • Writing shorter articles can help you get out of a writing slump faster
  • Shorter articles make it easier for a reader to glean information from them and then go directly to your website for more.
  • Shorter articles force you to mercilessly edit your content and trim superfluous words.
  • Shorter articles can be written fast especially if you’re using my Instant Article Writing Templates at StartWritingArticlesFaster.com

Now, there is definitely a right and wrong way to write a short article.

Do it correctly, and you’ll have a quality article that readers and publishers appreciate even though it’s shorter.

Do it incorrectly, and the article will look like it was created with the sole intention of gaining a back-link. This is not the way to win the hearts of publishers or readers.

So, what is the RIGHT way to write a shorter article?

The RIGHT Way to Write a Shorter Article

1. Use a word count limit.

For a ‘short and snappy’ article, think 400-500 words.

2. Stay focused.

When writing articles, most article marketers wind up going in a tangent. There are times that I have to stop myself and focus on “what is the main thing that I want to get across to my readers today.” I then start cutting anything outside those boundaries.

3. Think of your article as an appetizer, and your website is the main course.

Yes, you want to wow your readers with great information. But, you also want to leave them wanting more. Do NOT feel the urge to give away all of your secrets.

If you give a reader a tasting of information that appeals to them, then they will be more likely to seek out more info from you by clicking your website link in the bio box

4. Use article writing templates. You want to model proven article writing formats, such as those found in my Instant Article Writing Templates Kit. These templates will help you provide organization and structure to your articles. You can get 3 of my favorite article writing templates at http://www.TryMyFreeArticleTemplates.com

5. Edit ruthlessly.

With my shorter articles, I’m less conversational and more “just the facts, ma’am.” I trim any sentences/phrases/words that re-state what I’ve already covered..

I watch my word choice closely and challenge myself to get my point across in fewer words.

6. Be sure you have meat.

Remember, short does not mean frivolous. When you write shorter articles it means that the article is more hard hitting and to the point.

Follow these tips and you will write short, yet powerful, high-value, informational articles that will entice readers to want more information from you.

Now, do you want more information from me?

Great, then go to http://www.TryMyFreeArticleTemplates.com to get 3 of my favorite instant article writing templates that will help you write shorter articles in 30 minutes or less

website designWe believe you don’t start the design of a new or revised website by sitting down with the designer and coder of the website. Rather, we recommend you review the approaches, ideas, processes and other methods listed below to determine if they apply to your situation.

Think about your audience. Are they looking for immediate answers and solutions? We bet they are. Most likely these visitors to your website are very much like you. Chances are you use the Internet more than other types of media to search for information. If a web page doesn’t “grab your interest” within 8 – 10 seconds after landing on it… you move on!

The Wall Street Journal reported today that Chili’s restaurant chain brought back their “I Want My Baby Back Ribs” jingle with a new media campaign. In Canada, the makers of the Coffee Crisp candy bar recently started to rerun an almost twenty year old commercial featuring two very amusing card playing senior citizens with the memorable tag, “How do you like your coffee? I like my Coffee Crisp!”

Unlike the movie and music industries that keep recycling the same tired ideas and overpriced performers because (1) they fear their own self-perpetuating financially crippling business model and (2) because they are at heart, creatively bankrupt, some in the commercial marketing industry have realized what branding is about: a consistent message that resonates in the mind of the consumer. If you have a memorable campaign that penetrates the mind of the consumer, you need to push it for all it’s worth, rather than switching messages like you switch your underwear.

McDonald’s runs so many different campaigns aimed at so many different demographics that it no longer has a brand image. Maybe some overpaid marketing guru will remember “two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, etc.”

Small and medium sized businesses can learn an important lesson from this kind of marketing faux pax: once you hit on a brand message the works, one that people not only remember, but take to heart – do not mess with it.

The Iranian election in June this year has been used as a key source of analysis for the comparison between social and traditional media in providing up-to-the-minute reporting on world events.

The controversial presidential election held in Iran on June 12 this year saw incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad win a landslide victory, but the result was associated with charges of voting fraud which led to weeks of post-election unrest and, according to reports, left at least thirty people dead during the street protests.

But what were the effects of the coverage by social against traditional media? According to Nielsen, the Iranian election was “yet another watershed moment in the ongoing evolution of news and media, further blurring the lines between being, reporting, and following the story.

An initial Nielsen analysis of search results on the election found that: “Wikipedia emerged within the top two search results for 4/5 of the leading topics; at least one social media source emerged within the top 10 search results for every term; and in most cases, the social media sites emerged directly above a traditional, major news source.

What this showed was a marked shift in online news, as this event highlighted, more than any other, that the Iranian election was a watershed moment for social media.

As Nielsen pointed out: “YouTube emerged within the top 10 search results for all search terms in the second week; Wikipedia remained within the top three search results in the second week for four of the five search terms; and Twitter emerges within the top 20 search results in week two – specifically, the Twitter results for Moussavi and Ahmadinejad…The conflict in Iran [is the]…most sophisticated example of how the world has changed for journalists, the media and increasingly active media consumers alike.

So what did this “watershed” media moment signify? It certainly pointed to the fact that consumer-generated media by far eclipsed traditional news sources, with people accessing breaking news on Wikipedia and YouTube, rather than the New York Times or the BBC.

According to Mashable:Twitter is by far the best social media tool for breaking news second-by-second information on what happening in Iran and that people across the globe were chatting about every news item.

During the Iranian election, YouTube was the main distribution video channel, as locals posted vigorously on what was happening on the ground, and out there in the blogosphere they were far quicker in posting breaking news from Iran than traditional media, with Flickr positively overflowing with gruesome images of beatings and of the protests themselves.

According to The Web Ecology Project which focuses on data mining to analyse and understand culture on the web through quantitative research, the summary of its findings on the Iranian election was: “mashable is more influential than CNN; sockington is more influential than MCHammer; celebrities with higher follower totals foster more conversation than provide retweetable content; and that news outlets, regardless of follower count, influence large amounts of followers to republish their content to other users.

With the seemingly unstoppable advance of Twitter, a report, “The Influentials: New Approaches for Analyzing Influence on Twitter“, talks about Twitter “simplifying extraneous features…and boils down its environment to people and content…but failed to identify the nuances of social interaction in the system, the analyses tended to focus on the ‘connections between users rather than the relationship of users, content, and platform’.

It is a strange phenomenon in a way, given that the BBC had several correspondents in Iran at the time. However, there were “heavy restrictions” placed on the BBC and other news organisations, as reporters were not allowed to cover news the Iranian authorities regarded as off-limits. This impediment to reporting led to the BBC’s comment on the discussion about Iran: “The majority of messages on Twitter, both within Iran and abroad, are from Mousavi sympathisers – a factor we need to allow for.

As an aside, a website I came across recently is a Twitter monitor called Monitter. It allows users to have multiple columns of keywords in order to monitor what is being posted on Twitter in real time. To follow major international breaking news stories, it is a favourite source for some in monitoring a situation as it happens.

According to Sacred Facts’ Twittering the Uprising?: “If you, as an average news consumer, relied on Twitter you might believe all sorts of things had happened, which simply hadn’t, running a high risk of being seriously misled about events on the ground. You might at best, have simply been confused. You probably wouldn’t have thought Ahmadinejad enjoys much popular support at all.

Because of the restrictions placed on traditional media on the covering of the elections, social media proved to be a huge benefit in the vacuum of news coverage – as it was one of the few ways for the Iranian people to communicate with election-watchers in the West.

However, it is all very well for the general public to find its niche in reporting major news events, but for the BBC, what stood out in all this is that their journalists “exercise care and to check information before publishing it as fact”, thus it is still a much more reliable source of news dissemination than people’s news that is likely to post dubious “links, rumours and reports”.

Whilst provided additional, more personal channels and sources for people following this story, there is still no real place to dispose of traditional media just yet; it just needs to speed up its response to the social media phenomenon far more keenly.

If you have a web site that you have been maintaining and updating on a consistent basis for several years, chances are, you have acquired some decent traffic from the search engines. The thing that most webmasters don’t consider is that once they have that search engine traffic, it doesn’t mean it will stay forever. There are things that can happen with your web site that can cause it to drop out of the search engine rankings. So what is a web master to do in order to keep their search engine rankings?

Some very legitimate high quality sites are being hurt by some of the actions taken by the search engines to ban the spammy sites created by less than above-board webmasters. There are some things a webmaster can do to reduce their chances of their legitimate site being mistaken for a spam site.

1) Take care in who you are linking to on your website.

While it is good to have links that are helpful to your web visitors, you need to be careful who you are linking to. If you link to sites that are considered “bad neighborhoods”, you will certainly see a drop in your search engine results. This is because the search engines will assume that you are linking just to increase your search engine ranking. Avoid linking to sites and pages that are mostly a list of links. Many of these sites are somewhat spammy and also link to many other “questionable” sites. If you want to put your link in a link directory, go for high quality link directories, especially if these directories require a reciprocal link back to their site. Sometimes paying the few bucks they ask for to get listed could be worth it as it will filter out all of the spammers. The penalty hit is from an action on your part of linking to the bad neighborhood so you can control it by not linking to one in the first place. If you aren’t sure if the sites are in bad neighborhoods or not, you can easily check it out by using online tools that tell you if your website is linking to a bad neighborhood. Tools like bad-neighborhood.com give you detailed information about the websites you are linking to.

2) Make sure your keyword density isn’t too high

Your keyword density is also a factor that affects your search engine rankings. Search engines determine the relevance of your website to a particular subject by the use of keywords in your web page text. The higher the density of the keyword, the more relevant the web page for that keyword subject. However too high a keyword density, and the search engines will consider you trying to spam the search engines and will penalize your website for keyword stuffing, or keyword spamming. Content with a conversational tone or a natural editorial flavor can produce a premium keyword density and leave you with good quality content. The old rule of thumb is that your keyword should never appear in more than half of the sentences on the page. A better approach is to have your keyword not appear in more than 1/3 of the sentences, yet use synonyms and other related keywords on the page as well to add relevance. In total, you don’t want your keyword density to be above 3%. Tools like keyworddensity.com can give you a quick reference to web page keyword density.

There are some simple things you can do to keep your legitimate web site above board and not have it mistaken for a spam site so it doesn’t lose rank in the search engines. These 2 are some of the easiest and quickest things you can do to keep your website above board and ranking well in the search engines

Have you ever come across the saying “analysis – paralysis?” This is a superb phrase that ideally describes the processes and difficulties faced by a large number of entrepreneurs in this day and age. Just about anyone can easily end up spending most of their time thinking to themselves “what if”, and going over – repeatedly, the very reasoning behind their endeavours, or they can press on ahead. You can ask yourself whether your marketing campaign will yield real results, or you can go for it and see what happens. Most of the time, the aspiring entrepreneur falls short and will turn away from his or her targets due specifically to this kind of analysis.

If you are establishing an online business, you know that you need to use the power of Internet marketing to help you become established, to make people aware of your existence and to draw them to your sales funnel. One of the best ways to do this is to use the power of article marketing. In spite of the fact that this has been proven time and again to be one of the most powerful ways of marketing your online business – and a crucial factor in website development as well, many people still second and third guess its effectiveness.

It is quite common for newcomers to the arena to be exposed to the power of article marketing and to fully understand and comprehend its concept, yet the character sitting on their shoulder whispers some words of doubt. It is not good enough to accept that article marketing has been around for a considerable period of time and has stood the test of that time, but rather the question arises once again whether it is “for you.”

Understand that time does not stand still and neither do your competitors. One of the most important traits that you can possess as an entrepreneur is the efficient use of time. Time management dictates that once you have decided upon a course of action, you put it in place and continue to move forward toward the goal. Over analysis just wastes time. Once you’ve decided, after due diligence and research that you have a course of action, you must be willing to act on this.

There are a lot of people out there who see article marketing as a process which just takes too much time. The actual fact is that this is one of the wonderful aspects of this particular approach. The creation of educational and informative content and the distribution to others can scarcely be a better way of informing people about your authority, expertise and ability to meet their needs. By the time prospects arrive at your website, they may be partly qualified as they will have read through the information that you are putting out and have decided that they need to move towards the next step.

As article marketing is by definition a process that takes time, it is common for people to start such a campaign and then to stop it. If you are creating good content and distributing it accordingly, the odds are that your article marketing campaign will work, but it will take your confidence and ability to continue with the process until you see results.

Many entrepreneurs do not feel confident enough to create the content themselves and this is where a ghostwriter can come in very handy indeed. Consider hiring a virtual assistant to help you create the content according to your requirements, and to help you distribute it to the best authority sites on the Internet. A dedicated approach here and a commitment to success will undoubtedly bring real results.
