The 10 Week SEO Diet – A SPN Exclusive Article
By Kalena Jordan in Featured
So you’ve noticed that your competitor’s site ranks higher than your site on Google for *yellow widgets,* even though you are the premier widget provider in your area.
So what are you going to do about it? You’re going to take back control of the search results, that’s what!
You don’t need to be proficient at SEO or hire a Search Engine Optimizer to make a difference to your search engine rankings. There are several easy steps you can take that can make an immediate difference to your site’s visibility.
Here’s a 10 Week SEO Plan that will quickly put your site on the path to higher rankings:
Week 1 – Verify Your Site With the Big 3 Search Engines
If you want to understand how search engines interact with your site and find potential issues before they impact your traffic, you really need to verify your site and sitemaps with the big 3 search engines (Google, Yahoo, and Bing) and monitor your stats regularly.
Uploading Images To Websites
By Dele Ojewumi in Featured
There are some basics that any webmaster who wishes to be successful as an online entrepreneur must strive to know. This includes basic HTML, utilization of some tools – especially those for designing and amending or updating websites, uploading web pages from computer system to host server, and generally updating your website and blog.
The specific topic for this article is “Uploading Images To Website” which falls within the broad framework specified above. Reference here is to HTML websites.
Uploading Images To Website
This broadly speaking, can occur in two ways:
Uploading Images To Website, With Uploaded Images On Your Web Host Server.
Simply upload the image you want unto your server using an FTP Client such as FileZilla to have it displayed on a page on your website, from your server. This web page houses only the image. You then insert the image location (i.e. web page url) generated into the tool you use to design/amend or update your website e.g. Kompozer ( how to use will be explained in another article) and save unto any particular web page within your computer system. This web page could already contain text or other images if you so desire. This web page will then be uploaded via an FTP Client such as FileZilla or similar tool, to have the image – now on a desired web page of your website, displayed.
Detailed Procedure:
Right click and “save image as” onto your computer system, perhaps into “My pictures” folder. Better to start taking SEO into consideration from the outset by naming the picture/image with a targeted keyword.
Now use a tool for updating your website (linking your computer system to your server) such as FileZilla client (how to use will be explained in another article) to upload the image from your system unto a particular file of your website on your host’s server, in a suitably defined directory such as images.
Since an image is in most cases needed to be inserted in another web page, within text or other images and not solely for use on its own generated web page, take the generated image location url and insert into the space in “image insertion interface column 1″ of Kompozer. Also insert an appropriate keyword in the “alternate text” space.
Adjust the actual image dimension to your desired custom dimension in “image insertion interface column 2″ of Kompozer.
Adjust the appearance of the image within the web page as desired and insert a solid border if you so desire in the space in the “image insertion interface column 3″ of Kompozer.
Redirect the visitor to any particular web page of your choice when he clicks on the image, by inserting the url of your desired web page in the space in “image insertion interface column 4″ of Kompozer.
Save on the web page desired in your computer system and upload the web page onto your server/website using the FTP Client, FileZilla.
Voila! Your image is sitting pretty on your chosen web page with your host server.
Uploading Images To Website With Uploaded Images Not On Your Web Host Server.
Insert the image location (image web page url) for the desired image from any location on another server such as affiliates’ principal’s website into the tool you use for generating/amending or updating your website e.g. Kompozer, following steps 1 to 4 above and save this on your desired web page on your computer system.
Continue with the procedure indicated for “Uploading Images To Website, With Uploaded Images On Your Web Host Server” above, to upload the web page with an FTP client – FileZilla, unto your website at your host server.
The only difference in this case is that you did not generate the web page url the image is located at and your host server is not hosting the image web page, but rather linking to the web page it is currently hosted at. Your host server is however hosting the web page (including text and/or other images) in which you then insert the image.
In another article, I shall explain the pros and cons of using each method highlighted above.
Dele Ojewumi is the webmaster of => www.homebiz-supermarket.com.Why not visit his blog => www.homebiz-supermarket.com/profitable-business-ideas for a display of images further clarifying this abstract topic as well as a detailed explanation on how to use Komposer for designing and updating websites in addition to how to use FileZilla client to upload web pages from your computer system to your web host server.

Do You Wish You Had a High Profit Minisite Selling On the Internet?
By Ian Greenwood in Featured
Many times in life the way you approach a project is the most important part of your success. Building your own profit pulling minisite online is no exception to this rule. If you have never tried to do this, or have tried and failed, then let me show you a way to success!
Like doing anything, there is a right way, and a wrong way, to do most things. Or to put it another way, there is an easy way, and a difficult way. Learning to build your own high profit one page minisite is no exception to this rule. You can cut out a lot of wasted time and hassle if you apply the right things to your project from the start.
That’s what you’re going to find out here. The right way to start your first profit pulling minisite project.
Step 1 – Decide why you want to learn to create mini websites.
Knowing the ‘why’ makes the ‘how’ more manageable. By having a goal in mind at the start you will have something to work towards. You will also know when you have arrived at the end of your project.
Let me tell you a story of someone I know who worked for a bank. Let’s call him Jack. He, of course, never had any experience building websites, or really anything to do with the internet. His wife – we will call her Lynda – was heavily involved with the Girl Guide movement in the UK.
One day Jack was surfing the net on his computer. Lynda was passing and said that she would really like a website for her Girl Guide troop. At that moment Jack made her a rash promise to build her the website she wanted! He then had a goal to aim for.
Well, ten years on, Jack is now one of the top UK internet marketers. He has a business online that draws in hundreds of thousands a year. Having that goal – to build his first website for the Girl Guides – opened up a whole world of possibilities to him, and gave him his first ‘why.’
So, what is your goal for your first website? For most people that will be to make a little money online, or even to replace their 9 – 5 regular job. Well, this is great to aim for in the future, but you really need to take things a little slower at the beginning to guarantee success.
Step 2 – Don’t run before you can walk!
Start by creating a simple one page minisite for a simple ebook or other small product. This includes two important factors. First, You will increase your chances of success by not taking on too much too soon, and second, you will be able to see the project through to completion quickly.
This second factor is critical in your success. Watching as your minisite project progresses quickly is very exciting and motivating. In only a few days, or a week or two, you can have your first sales minisite up and running. This is a great feeling and will spur you on to do it again and again.
Step 3. Learn, and do, a little every day.
No matter where your teaching is coming from, be it a book, class or course, you need to learn something new from it every day. And, you should also do something to progress your project every day, no matter how small.
Most people give up on their first minisite project simply because they leave it for a few days and then never get back to it. This can be fatal to your dreams. Do a little every day and you will see your minisite project progressing in the right way.
By doing it this way you will never be overwhelmed by the amount you still have to do. You will also have the time to devote to the little problems or difficulties that are bound to crop up from time to time. You will also be able to tick off the little steps as each are achieved . This shows you your progress so you can really watch your end goal coming closer.
Conclusion. If you really want to teach yourself to build websites then this three step strategy can help you win. Just believe that you can learn to do this. Many have before you. It’s not hard, and it can be hugely rewarding – both in cash earned, as well as personal achievement!

Google (and Bing) Love Anchor Text Link Spam
By Jill Whalen in Featured
While many bloggers and the media are calling Google’s search results out lately, most of the focus has been on the somewhat low-quality pages that show up for informational long-tail searches. My concern for Google’s search results is different, however. As I touched upon in the last newsletter, I’m tired of Google (and Bing) returning sites that use anchor text link spam to get on the first page of results.
For those who don’t know what anchor text is, here’s a quick explanation:
Anchor text is the words in the clickable part of any link. For instance, when someone links to my site, they typically use either my name or my company name in the anchor text, which looks like this:

But those links are not all that valuable in SEO terms. What would be better (for search engines) is for the links to be more like these:
2 Steps To Friendlier URLs
By Wolf Krammell in Featured
Your content’s URLs, or Universal Resource Locators, may not be something that you think about every day. Making your URLs as friendly and easy-to-use as possible is one of the basics of optimizing your website for search engines as well as vastly improving its general usability.
The base URL, or address, of your website often looks something like this: http://www.example.com. It’s what people type into the address bars of their browsers to navigate to your website. Using a relevant URL is an important part connecting your users with your offerings.
Say, for example, http://www.carsales.com, if you were, indeed, a car salesmen. That’s all pretty obvious, but how can you make your URL friendlier? Here’s two things to think about:
1) Human readable URLs
Often times, because of the nature of the programming behind a website’s functionality, URLs have a tendency to devolve into hard to read, hard to understand strings of text. The URL is used to pass information to the website’s scripts – or programs – and some developers don’t take the time to develop a friendly URL system, opting instead to pass raw data through the URL. Take for example, a web page on a fictional dog toy company’s website which lists all of their assorted dog collars. In some cases, you may find a URL like so: http://www.dogtoys.com/?catId=col&page=1
As you can tell, the URL says nothing legible about collars. That means it isn’t any help either to search engines or to actual users in terms of delivering any real meaning. Not only will search engines not be able to use this URL effectively to catalog the web page’s contents, but users will have a hard time remembering it if they ever choose to return to the web page. Instead, a “friendlier” URL may read like so: http://www.dogtoys.com/collars
That’s much simpler. Now search engines and real people alike will have no difficulty knowing what might be offered at that page, or remembering how to navigate back to it.
How do you get your website to sport human readable URLs?
Ask your SEO consultant to make sure your web pages are configured to allow them, and that they boast the most effective language and phrasing in terms of “find-ability.”
2) “Hackable” URLs
Once your website offers human readable URLs, it’s time to take it one step further. “Hackable” URLs refers to URLs which can be modified by users to deliver intuitive results. This is accomplished by arranging your website’s structure categorically, and reflecting that structure in the web pages’ addresses. For example, a “hackable” URL for a web page providing purple dog collars might look like this: http://www.dogtoys.com/collars/purple Now users can glean at a glance that this page will offer not just dog collars, but dog collars of a specific color. So what if your user wants to see all dog collars, regardless of color?
They simply “hack” off the specification at the end of the URL, which gives them: http://www.dogtoys.com/collars.
This practice not only adds more meaningful, precise language into your URLs which will ensure better search engine cataloging, but also adds meaning and intuitive navigability for your users.

Mistakes An Affiliate Marketer Should Never Commit
By Paul Evans in Featured
Most new affiliate marketers are keen to get going and rush headlong in to the business with the aim of making a lot of money. That level of excitement associated with embarking on a new interest usually makes ones determination go into hyper drive and, unfortunately, this can be a bad thing as often as it can be positive. Speed and determination can cloud a person’s mind, blocking their wider vision and common sense, leading them to start doing things in a adverse way. If you want to convert your enthusiasm into a positive energy, read these following 10 points, and make sure you don’t make the same mistakes as many others, as you try to become a super affiliate:
1. Spamming – A spam is an unsolicited email, and usually they flood blog comments and countless of “innocent inboxes.” Aside from being really irritating, constant spamming will give your recipients a good reason to block you. Elsewhere, search engines do not appreciate spamming as it appears to be a desperate move and will delete accounts or block emails if they suspect you of the activity.
2. Advertising in Forums – Discussion boards and forums are great ways to share ideas and build your community, but posting advertisements on them is akin to spamming. This also leads to nothing but big trouble; you will not only be viewed as a scam merchant, you will also be thought of as disrespectful and people will not engage with you on forums.
3. No Research – Research is really important, and yet the least practiced step of the entire affiliate marketing business plan. Many affiliate marketers skip this stage because they view it as unnecessary and time consuming. They think they can get on without a decent research. They’re wrong! The moment you skip this early research is the exact time that your business starts to crumble. Invest a lot of time and effort on market research because getting to know your target audience is something you will never ever regret.
4. Copying Others’ Content – Copyright infringement is one of the worst things you can do in affiliate marketing. Never copy anyone elses work; not only is it highly unethical but it is actually punishable by law too.
5. Not Responding to Emails – 90% of customers are willing to pay extra for good quality customer service. By not responding to each and every customer email you get, you are showing that you do not value your customers. If a customer doesn’t feel valued, they will not respect you and will definitely not purchase any goods from you. So take a little time and make each person feel special, you’ll be glad you did.
6. Pop-up Overload – Overusing pop-ups will definitely drive your customers away. They are just like spamming and will really annoy anyone who clicks on to your page. The worst thing you can do is to irritate your buyers and so, if you feel you must integrate pop ups on your page, do so with caution.
7. Free Hosting and Email Accounts – Free hosting makes you appear like a cheesy vendor and you may fail to gain visitors’ trust. Research the best hosts on the market and prepare to pay for a better service; doing so will probably see you earn more income in the long run.
8. Failure to Have a Plan B – A perfect initial plan is nothing if you have no back-up plan. Always think ahead, be a step further than the rest of the people in the industry. If you plan for the eventuality that you may fail, you will always be prepared and more quick to react to any downturn.
9. Keeping Poor Records – Affiliate marketing may be a laid back business, but it is still a business nonetheless. Just as any physical business would keep a record of all transactions, events, alterations, costs etc, an internet business should not retreat from this too. Keeping a log of the business is very important because, ultimately, a disorganized business is a failing business.
10. Advertising Offline – Paying newspapers or magazines for ads is a total waste of money if you are involved in internet marketing. You may think it is widening your audience but, on the whole, all of your audience is in one place in this industry – on the web. You are better off focusing all of your energies and efforts online because print marketing will probably, at best, bring in 10 – 20 more customers but will cost a lot to do so.
Now that you know what the common mistakes affiliate marketing do, try to steer clear from these amateur wrong doings and you will soon see yourself on the road to success.

What Are Infographics and When Should They Be Used?
By Jamie Lyons in Featured
It’s possible to express a thought, an emotion or a viewpoint in any number of ways – these different modes of expression are exalted as art forms if executed well and form the foundations of culture. Wordsmithery (a made up term referring to effective and powerful use of written language) is no exception and is a craft I often attempt to exercise in order to move people, encourage positive thought and of course get visitors to websites. I’m not going to quote any of the appropriate cliches here, but to put it simply: sometimes words don’t have quite the impact required.
When it comes to statistics, words (and of course their good friend: numbers) may comprehensively succeed in providing the bulk of the salient information that one wishes to convey – but the result can be lengthy and boring. Similarly, short of using Comic Sans or Word Art, it’s hard to add visual flourishes to reports on the findings of a research body, or to engage a passing eye and achieve impact on the page with just enjambment, alliteration and very self-indulgent punctuation. To succeed in these cases you need something which expresses the facts whilst also engaging the viewer and breaking often complicated concepts down into comfortably masticated chunks. In this area of communication the infographic is king.
Example 1 – Recruitment 2010…at a Glance
The title of this infographic concisely expresses the function of this infographic and the infographic itself concisely, clearly and imaginatively expresses the facts and figures that the originator wanted to share. View the image here – www.blueoctopus.co.uk/blogtopus/index.php/123/recruitment-2010-infographic/
Although many will find statistics pertaining to recruitment in 2010 absolutely fascinating…the majority of ‘pleasure-browsers’ probably won’t. This infographic caters to both parties by playing with color, graphically expressing facts and figures and providing both negative and positive findings in a clear and balanced way.
Example 2 – The True Cost of Asbestos
This infographic was created to try and raise awareness of the harm that asbestos exposure continues to inflict on a large number of people every year. Much like the previous example, the image serves to graphically demonstrate statistics which are generally never shown in a manner more exciting than a generic bar chart. It grabs attention, pleases the eye and imparts important knowledge, see:
www.lighthouseriskservices.co.uk/true-cost-of-asbestos.html.
Whilst the recruitment infographic still had an air of business-iness about it, this example plays more with color and utilities more elaborate and creative imagery.
Given that it aims to share a message with the widest possible audience, the almost playful presentation of very serious facts and emphasis on visual depiction over lexical elaboration show just how short the average attention span is.
So, if you want to show off some mind-blitzing facts and figures in a way which also appeals to the aesthetically minded you should probably at least consider an infographic…I personally think they’re ace.

Firefox vs. Chrome Web Browser: Which is the Best Browser?
By Pat Lindle in Featured
It actually sounds like something from a sci-fi flick, The Browser Wars”, but it is not. It is a very real fight and until recently the top contenders were Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari, with Firefox clearly being the better program. That was until Google threw its hat in the ring.
Now it goes without saying that the true fight has begun between Firefox and Google Chrome. If you are interested in how they stack up against each other read on.
Speed: Chrome is by far the fastest. It uses the Webkit engine layout and independent speed tests have already cemented this engine as the leader in overall speed.
Although Firefox did attempt to amp up its search speed with the introduction of its 3.5, it still looses hands down.
Security: All browsers have had occasional security risks. However Chrome treats each tab as an individual process.
This means that if one search result in the tab is infected by a malicious site, then it is contained and subsequently “pawned.” This keeps the infection from spreading to the other tabs. This alone gives Google Chrome the edge over Firefox.
Search Options: This is the one area that Google Chrome falls short in. As of now the program cannot support any other browser. Firefox is compatible with all other browsers and is capable of supporting a lot more add-ons than Google Chrome supports. These are important for people who use the browser for more than just a simple search.
Memory: The separation of the tabs for security purposes also may look, at first glance as if that is gross usage of memory space. But tests have proven that is not the case.
The memory usage also depends a lot on the number of other programs running within the browser. Since Firefox users tend to have an abundance of add-ons, this makes for a much larger memory loss. So even though Firefox would win this one, it is with reservations.
The bottom line is that you can’t go wrong with either one of these browsers. Right now, power users will find Chrome to be faster and cleaner. Internet marketers will find more options with Firefox. Use both for maximum effect. Happy browsing!
As you can see both have their benefits and both leave something to be desired. You can download and use both for different projects. Since this is war, you have to find out for yourself which one is best.
