linksCreating a successful business online might require a lot of effort and determination, but it is nevertheless a worthwhile option for the serious entrepreneur nowadays. A whole lot has changed in the last 5 to 10 years, particularly as we now have come to be a far more connected society on the whole. Now, it’s not a question of whether or not you should consider creating a website to support your business goals, it is a question of making sure that it’s up and running and as powerful a marketing force as it can be, if you are going to make it whatsoever.

There still is, to a certain degree, a certain amount of mystique attached to internet marketing and marketing any company on the web. We all know that a website is our vehicle, our shop window to the Internet world, but we need to make sure that people are very aware about its presence. Until we get traffic to the website and ensure that that traffic is focused and most likely motivated to buy our product or service, then we will certainly not be successful.

There are a number of various ways to promote your website online. To consider one of the best article writing for backlinks is actually the most proven and is accepted by nearly every internet expert as a foundation of your plan.

When you write content articles not only are you supplying information regarding a product or service you indicate that you’re an authority, simultaneously. The submission of these articles, to the right sites, helps to ensure that your “message” is viewed by individuals who are interested in your goods, most likely. Not simply do they notice your existence and your tendency to assist them, but they are able to follow a link to your website through the all-important backlink.

We have to focus on backlinks in SEO technique management, as the search engines put enormous emphasis on the level of quality and amount of backlinks that point to your site. After all, there is only so much that you can do with on-page optimization to project your site as purposeful and beneficial. Presuming that a majority of internet marketers will pay very good attention to this “on page” optimization, search engines like Google understand that they need to use alternative methods to differentiate among internet websites and to decide which ones are right.

For this reason you need to focus on a technique for creating backlinks to your site, in addition to your content material development and distribution activities. You must be capable to have backlinks to your site from alternative sites, in as natural and sensible a manner as possible.

There used to be a time when the sheer number of links would matter, but today the search engines are quite effective at interpreting where the link came from and whether it makes logical sense for that link to exist, or not.

Rather than apply a shotgun way of collecting backlinks, you now must ensure that the site supplying the hyperlink is highly relevant to yours, as in any other case the search engines like Google are quite as likely to penalize you, rather than allowing you to profit.

bloggingAdding a blog to your website is a big decision, but it is something that every company should consider. A regularly updated blog can give people a reason to visit your website more often, and there are also SEO (search engine optimization) benefits to keeping a company blog.

Perhaps you’ve thought about starting a blog for your company, but you’re not sure it will be worth the extra work. Here’s a rundown of the SEO benefits to help you decide.

More Content for Search Engines

Most websites have a fairly limited number of pages, and a limited number of words per page. Adding a blog means you can regularly create rich content, and include the keywords you’re trying to rank well for in search results. You’ll be giving search engines more pages and content to crawl on your site, and more opportunity to see your important keywords.

For every blog post you write, you are giving yourself the opportunity to add content containing five to 10 new keywords. Some of these keywords could actually be longer phrases containing keywords you’re already trying to rank well for in search results.

webdevThe successful online portals and marketplaces today are well-known; the failures aren’t but are multiples of the winners. Here’s a snapshot look at what it takes to build winning web portals based on real-life lessons.

Ten years ago I was immersed in a meeting of Information Technology professionals and business leaders from the Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center Network. They were trying to come up with new ways to serve their base constituents, Pennsylvania manufacturers, and get them into the world of e-Business. Lo and behold, one rather entrepreneurial center director brought up the idea of an online business web portal site, targeted to this market. On it a company could showcase itself to the world, access new quoting opportunities and resources such as suppliers and information. The argument was compelling, and the people seated around the table cautiously threw their hats into the ring of support, one by one. So just what were the best methods of how to build web portals?

Here comes the problem: this idea was not a new one. In 2011, even less so. There are loads of online web portals out in cyberspace that aren’t working and can barely pay the rent. There are, however, targeted communities or successful web portal sites out there that are getting it done. We read about them in the trade press and marvel at their “instant” success. So what makes a Yahoo or a Hoovers
Online a winner where many other attempts turn out to be losers? The team in State College wanted to find that out – fast.

affiliatemktgNobody can deny that a person who speaks more languages than the average Joe will go further in life. This is because learning and mastering an extra language allows a person to communicate with other ethnic; exchanging ideas, information and resources. Besides that, the person would also feel a sense of belonging among different communities, simply because he speaks in their language!

Thus, it is important that when you get started in this online business, you must know the different terms that are used within this online community… otherwise you will end up terribly confused as you would not understand what others in the Internet Marketing niche is saying.

Here are some of the terms used frequently when you become an affiliate marketer:

Affiliate

A person who sells a merchant’s product with his affiliate ID. The affiliate’s role is to direct traffic to the merchant’s sales page, and if the traffic converts, the affiliate makes a commission which is cut from the price of the merchant’s product.

Affiliate ID

This may be your username or a generated jumble of words or numbers. This ID is used to identify traffic that goes through your link to a merchant’s sales page from a crowd of other people’s traffic.

Merchant (sometimes called “Vendor”)

A person who creates a product and sells it with a sales page.

Traffic (also known as “Visitors”)

People who visit a certain webpage, or a website.

Converting Traffic/Traffic Converts…

Traffic that “converts” to buying customers. For example, they visit a sales page and they decide to buy the product.

Sales Page

A Sales Page is a webpage where the vendor puts up a sales letter to sell his product. Usually, a sales page is a really long letter that has a Headline, the Body, an Image of the Product, Testimonials and an “Add To Cart” or “Buy Now” button that leads to a checkout page.

Squeeze Page

A webpage that has a box that has a “Name” field and an “Email” field. Sometimes, they only have an “Email” field. This page is where the vendor “captures” the traffic’s email addresses in order to send relevant e-mails to his potential customers for follow – ups, adding value and promoting other products.

IM – Internet Marketing

The common term that has the meaning “Make Money Online” attached to it. The only way to make money from the internet is through marketing products… regardless of whether you are an affiliate or a vendor.

The terms above are the most frequently used terms once you have become an affiliate marketer. You do not need to memorize each term and definitions like you will be quizzed for it, because the longer you are in affiliate marketing, the more you will be able to understand what other affiliates, vendors and all who are in this business are saying.

wp-bigIf you have been around the world of internet marketing for any amount of time you have likely heard of something called SEO. Basically that just stands for Search Engine Optimization. In the world of computers everything gets an acronym and this one basically just means that your blog or website is set up in such a way that it is friendly to Google and the other major search engines. It allows the search engines to find your content and return your sites in their results when people search for things online.

Every second there are millions of searches being done all over the world for everything from Aardvarks to Zebras. Somewhere in all that are people who are searching for products and services that your business could provide for them.

If you are using a WordPress blog, which is what I recommend to all my clients, you have the benefit of a massive library of plugins to help you with your SEO. In the old days we had to do all of this by hand by going into the code of a site and changing things around. Now we have great plugins to help us.

The best plugin that you can get for your blog is one called All in one SEO. This plugin is free and is easy to download from the WordPress site. When you download it you will need to go into the options page and make some minor setup changes and then every time you make a post or create a page on your site you will be able to list the keywords, create a summary description of the post and make keyword rich titles. The rest of the work is done by the plugin. No need to go in and start writing code.

The next essential plugin that you should have is called XML sitemaps. This plugin allows you to create a sitemap for your blog that is friendly to the search engines. Site maps are very important because these are the quickest way for Google to index your site and learn what all is available from you. With a great site map your site can be indexed much faster than without one. This plugin is 100% free.

I often say to my clients that cars run on gas and the internet runs on words. No one TYPES a photo into Google. You type words and that is what makes your site able to be found by the search engines. At the same time human beings love pictures and video.

We are much more inclined to watch a video than we are to read pages and pages of an eBook. So when you have photos on your site you need this plugin. This plugin will allow you to attach what is called metadata to each of the photos that you put up on your site. So if you have a photo that is associated with a post that you have made the photo will get the title and keywords associated with it as well. This will allow this photo to show up in Google Photos and allows your blog to have better SEO in general. The plugin is called SEO Friendly Images and it is free.

If you have always wanted to know how to make more money with your business using the internet then I have a special gift for you. I have written an eBook on how to get the search engines to love your website/blog. I am offering it to you for free. Check out my blog and sign up for the free eBook here http://TheLocalBusinessGuru.com/ Free SEO eBook, don’t delay this may go away soon!

business1Creating and building an internet home business is so much easier to do than just a few years ago with the availability of easy to use services and tools. But you must also be wary that the time you spend is being used effectively as there are major mistakes those new to online marketing do make which can ultimately stop them achieving their ambitions.

The first major mistake to avoid when creating your internet home business is undertaking insufficient research. You may have an idea for a niche, perhaps it is your main interest or passion or related to your work experience. Whilst you may consider it a great idea, the information you offer will only sell, and you make profits, if there is already a waiting and hungry market for it. Through undertaking proven research techniques will you have enough information to make a rational decision.

The second mistake can stop the ambitions of those new to online marketing dead. They think they see an opportunity that no-one else has grabbed. Well, there maybe a very good reason for this. The mistake here is trying to be a pioneer. It is often the case that being first into a market results in defeat and it is not until those that come later will start to find success and profits. It is best to just let others enter a market first and for them to lay the path for you to then enter and profit from.

The third mistake is putting the product first. You are not seeking to create a one trick pony of selling one product and that is it. Your goal is to build an internet home business that will offer both free and paid for information that is helpful and valuable to your niche. The clue is in the title, it should be viewed and run as a business. The products are only part of the overall business.

Number four mistake is not being realistic with the costs incurred of creating and building your internet home business. Whilst you can get a website live for little cost, you need to be realistic as to the costs to be bourn such as the tools required not just to run the business such as web hosting and email marketing but also in product creation and advertising.

A fifth mistake to avoid, and one related to product creation, is trying to always reach perfection. Quite simply, if it is good enough then get it out there.

Remember, the customer will be buying your products for the quality of information that they contain and not because they are or are not packaged in an attractive box. Just accept that you will never reach perfection so you should stop wasting time trying.

Lastly, number six, the world of internet marketing is forever changing and there is a constant requirement to keep one eye open for new techniques and methods to adopt into your internet home business. You need to be prepared to continually update your skills and how you offer the information to your niche.

When starting an internet home business, you need to be aware of the reality rather than getting carried away with the imagined success that you are going to have. By accepting that this is a business, including working diligently to a proven plan, anyone can take the action required to follow the steps and create an internet income for themselves.

search-engine-marketingI want to introduce you to a beginner’s guide to traffic generation by using paid-for ads on search engines. Now I have to be honest and say most of my experience has been really with Google Adwords primarily, however I’ve done some with Yahoo, which has returned some very good, cost effective results. Try them all and then decide for yourself.

Little Bit of History For You

Overture, which is now owned by Yahoo, basically created P4P (pay for performance), as we know it today. They realized and anticipated the growth in online shopping, that activity would increase dramatically, and advertising was going to be huge because of all the online businesses.

You need visibility to get web surfers to visit your site to buy, join your list etc. Placing ads that can send visitors to your sites not only increase sales, but traffic as well. Yahoo now has this service (since buying Overture some years ago), which allows ads for companies or websites to be visible in response to certain keywords that are entered by the browser.

More Visitors Helps Your List Building Activity

Any company can drive more traffic to its site by making use of this service. More traffic means that you’ll get more people seeing the pages of your site and getting the benefits of your site’s info, or better yet, buying your products or joining your list. If you’ve got a high volume of traffic, then it makes building your list somewhat easier and quicker as well. Naturally the advantage of getting people onto your list is that you are then able to market to them on a regular basis with the hope that they are not just one off customers, but over time will buy further product from you, and a website owner they have come to trust. Hence the phrase “the money’s in the list.”

The lifeblood of every website is to get a large and consistent traffic flow to the website. Visitors to your site are vital obviously, and if you can get as large a number as possible who are targeted (i.e. they have an interest in whatever your site is about) using internet marketing tips like these, it will help towards getting sales and increased awareness of your site’s products or services.

So How Does it Work?

Yahoo Overture works in basically the same way as Google Adwords. Both services use searches based on keywords and keyword phrases to place ads on sites that are relevant.

The browser’s keyword selection will determine what results come up. When you do a search, you’ll see ads on the right side of the results page. At the top of these ads will be paid ads. These are ones where the company or website has paid for them to be listed for that keyword or phrase.

Let’s look at an example. Imagine that you have a site that sells retail and wholesale auto parts. You can choose certain keywords that will bring up your ad when they are searched. When somebody types in, for example, Ford Explorer your ad comes up because you’ve chosen the phrase Ford Explorer for your ads.

Using this technique, you don’t have to worry so much about optimizing your site’s content for search engine optimization. However, in my opinion an important internet marketing tip is you should SEO your site anyway, as highly optimized sites will always rank better and can take advantage of changes in web technology that are bound to come about from time to time – so do it anyway.

By using Yahoo/Overture it’s possible to get your list listed on the first page, obviously depending on how competitive your keyword choice is and the budget you have to spend. A word of caution here – keep your budget very small and tight until you have tested the system. However, using search engine advertising is a quick way to get more traffic to your site. But obviously the best plan is to use SEO and other free methods of traffic generation as well.

OK So What’s The Cost?

The only trouble is that you’ll have to spend some cash to use this method. Yahoo/Overture has a number of different pricing options, depending on the number of keywords your ad has in it, or the number of times you get clicks. They also offer deals that allow your ads to show up on third party sites and not just search engine results pages. Visit their site to check out the current costs.

As far as the third party sites go, they’ll put your ads on sites that are relevant to yours. In other words, they are going for the same or similar keywords. This ensures that the people who might be interested in your site will see it. It would be meaningless for them to put your ads on an unrelated site.

Invest in Your Business’s Future

You can and should see this money as an investment. The idea is to pull more visitors to your site, and thus to increase sales. When it works, you will make good on the investment. The trick then is to work on your site so that those clicks turn into cash. In other words, don’t just get them there; get them buying and joining your list.

They say it takes money to make money. Actually, there are a number of free or low-cost ways to drive traffic to your site. But using Yahoo’s Overture (and the other search engines ) can help you get there faster. It offers quicker traffic on a bigger scale. If you don’t want to wait around for the search engines to start finding your site, it can be well worth the money!

So there you have it, Internet marketing tips like these are all about using the arsenal of tools, tips and methods to quite literally ‘market’ your site.

For all those Star Wars fans out there….a different take on the importance of blogging. By David Mercer. Republished from SitePreBuilder.com.

jabbaLet me guess, you thought the star wars characters weren’t bloggers, right? Wrong. They had to blog. I mean they had space ships and light sabers, surely they had an Internet connection?

So Luke, Obi Wan, Jabba, C3PO, Yoda, Han Solo and Chewbacca are sitting around talking about their blogging experiences on Tatooine. The following is a transcript recorded by some gossip columnist… a Jawa called Perez:

[C3PO]: Master Luke, I took the liberty of remotely accessing your blog. You received one comment from your sister, and a few blocked spam posts from the Tusken raiders, who seem amused by the notion of…

[Luke interrupts]

[Luke]: Blast. I’m sick of only getting read by those Tusken raiders – all they do is try and sell stuff back to me. I’ve decided to add Jabba and Chewbacca as guest bloggers to increase my reach and build traffic.

[Yoda]: When ten thousands visits in one day you get, crash your server it will. Mmm.

[Han Solo]: It always crash this, crash that with you isn’t it, Yoda? A disturbance in the Internet exchange, a disturbance in my Google analytics. Why don’t you shut up. No one reads your blog anyway.

[Chewbacca]: Wooo oooo ooo!

[C3PO]: Dreadful creature. That’s your answer for everything. Well, master Luke and I are taking you off the blogroll immediately.

[Han Solo]: I suggest you keep the wookie on your blogroll.

[C3PO]: And why would I do that?

[Han Solo]: Because other bloggers won’t tear your arms off.

[Jabba]: Ho ho ho. Nganga tu social media, ipi lo viral marketing. Ho ho ho

[Jabba licks his lips]

[Han Solo]: Err, I don’t think Jabba’s going to fit in well with hooray-for-good-guys.com’s style, even if he’s got 2 million followers on uglyface-book.com.

[Obi Wan]: He’s right Luke. These are not the guest bloggers you are looking for.

[Luke]: And what would you know Obi? I haven’t seen your face on Slashdot or Digg recently.

[awkward silence]

[Yoda]: Much black-hat SEO I sense in Jabba. Seduced by the dark side of Internet marketing he is. Spam, he does. Hidden links. Mmm.

[Luke]: Alright fine. I won’t go with Jabba. But I can’t pay for the servers unless I start getting some traffic.

[Obi Wan]: I’ve got it, Luke. You will make up a story that starts right here on Tatooine and then grows into an epic battle of good versus evil. You will write about it in six blogs with backlinks and social integration.

[C3PO]: Capitol idea, Master Wan. We could call it Star wars and it would be an ever so exciting adventure. We can write press release, and articles. Merchandising, advertising, affiliate marketing.. it’s got it all.

[Luke]: Hey, that’s not bad. I could be the hero who saves the whole galaxy.

[Han Solo coughs loudly]

[Jabba]: Ho ho ho. Begu lapa lo stupid idea, ngingu star wars. Ho ho ho

[Luke]: Shut it, Jabba. We’re doing it anyway. Keep up that attitude and someone’s going to strangle you one of these days, I swear.

[Obi Wan]: It’s settled then. Luke and I will travel to a Galaxy far far away and begin selling our blogs’ syndication rights to gullible aliens. I already have a contact, his name is George.

web-design-historyWebsite redesign proposal checklists should take careful account of the current status of the existing website. Rather than just rush headlong into the web redesign / rebuild process, an assessment of the good and bad elements of the original site should be made. Include consideration of SEO aspects. All too often, the website makeover results in a dramatic downturn in search engine rankings! Don’t underestimate the value of the existing indexed pages… or the benefits of current organic SERPs. Run the rebuild idea past an SEO consultant.

The Risks to Current Rankings

Be aware that existing search engine rankings can all too easily go down the toilet! Why? Well, that’s the consequence of not planning and executing strategies to cover the threats.

Page Redirection

Without a trail of breadcrumbs to find out where the old content went, all search engines are left bewildered and floundering in a sea of 404 Page Not Found errors.

1. Top-Ranking Pages: Should be identified, preserved and enhanced.

By Lawrence Hamilton in Featured

affiliatemktgThe questions you first need to answer are:

  1. Are you capable of selling more online and how can I do it?
  2. Do your ads generate enough excitement in your prospects to get more clicks?
  3. Are your sales letters able to convert more prospects into customers?
  4. Are your articles effective and do they help in getting visitors to your site?

If you are getting the traffic but not the conversions, then you need to analyze how you can redefine your strategy to change this. Redefining your strategy is only the first step; you then need to take action to solve your dilemma. I believe the answers are simpler than you think, and I would like to share them with you.

Strategy 1: In your website, blog, or Email campaign, you have probably listed all the features, advantages, and benefits of your wonderful product or service. You can’t imagine why people would not want to exercise their option of taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity you have laid out before them. After all, you did extensive keyword research to ensure SEO engines would find your site. You even marketed the product wisely through solo ads, classified ads, banners, or your Email list. How could I have 10,000 visitors and only one conversion? Bottom line here is that selling is still a simple process, and there are no hidden keys to the mystery of selling. First and foremost is the fact that people buy what they want and not necessarily what they actually need. They came to your site because they wanted something, and what did you do to satisfy that want? Since people buy on emotion, you have to stoke that emotion. Retailers stoke emotion by putting magazines and candy in their checkout lanes. Anyone reading this knows you have made that very same impulse buy based on emotion and not logic.

Action Step 1:
Since your prospects don’t know you or care about you or your success, you have to define the benefit of your product. The first basic principle of selling anything is this: “the customer must understand what’s in it for them”. I need to reiterate; this is the first vital key to selling. If I am your customer, I need to “buy in” to how this product will benefit me in my life. You need to give clear examples of how this product or service you are promoting has changed your life, why you are committed to it, and what it will do for them. Features and advantages are all great for exploiting the enhancements of your product, but you have to expound on the benefit of: “what’s in it for me”. Remember, a feature is what the product does. An advantage is what the product does better than a similar product. A benefit is what the product can do for me. Go back to the drawing board and redesign your efforts to include that benefit in your marketing. If you are getting that traffic but no conversions, this is the answer to that haunting query. Why am I not converting prospects to customers?

Strategy 2: You have a marketing strategy to get traffic to your site, and, once again, you are not converting. How have you designed the copy in your ads, E-Mail responses, or articles? I find most people are lead to believe that keywords and long tail keywords are the total answer, and without them, no one will find or visit your site. Well, keywords are important to a point, but they are far from the end all to be all. In fact, they can actually hurt you, if not used properly.

Action Step 2: Once you discover an effective strategy to get prospects to your site, you have to talk to them as you would talk to a friend. Meaningless ad copy, website content, or articles filled with loads of keywords are a strict taboo if you want your campaign to be effective and successful. Your main focus should be on imparting useful knowledge, ideas and practical tips that readers can use.

You also have to employ the benefit factor discussed in Strategy One. You can certainly use strategic keywords in places where you deem it necessary, but randomly populating your copy with keywords will just jeopardize the hours you put into your campaign. Your message will sound like a keyword stuffing party, and your reader will quickly lose interest. You have offered your prospect nothing of value.
The key for on line business people like us is we have to quickly tell our prospective customers why they should want what we have. We must convey that message in an articulate manner so you can generate that emotional interest in your reader.

Strategy 3: Have you provided any emotion driven reasons to purchase your product? Have you generated powerful enough emotions to cause prospects to take action steps NOW? You have to understand what encompasses the best motivations that apply to most every product. Using these tactics properly will spark interest in finding out more about your product or service and cause them to take action.

Action Step 3: You need to employ some promise of gain. How does your product help your prospect gain something? I can’t answer that question for your product, but I can tell you that you gained something from the product you are promoting. How and what you have gained needs to be conveyed to your prospect in a manner that is subtle but important. Don’t hard sell; but let them know how important this gain can be in their lives like it was in yours. You also must impart a fear of loss. Fear of loss is the other side of gain. This is where all the scarcity online selling comes from. Offline merchants use the same tactic as well.

How many times have you heard your local department store claim they are having the “biggest sale of the year!” That is the fear of loss telling you to act now or you will pay more later. Don’t scare your prospect, but they need to know they could lose out on a great price (or something else), if they don’t act now.

The more you understand how to employ all these strategies and then take action, the better your chances of converting prospects into customers. I hope these strategy tips and action steps help you in your endeavor.
