August was another record-setting month for online video viewership. Data from comScore shows 188 million U.S. consumers watched an estimated 38 billion Web videos in August.
Americans watched 9.5 billion video ads in August, with each of the top four video ad properties supplying more than 1 billion ads each. Video ads reached 54 percent of the total U.S. population an average of 58 times during the month.
Google sites were No. 1 with more than 1.7 billion ads, trailed by BrightRoll Video Network with 1.4 billion. Adap.tv placed third with 1.2 billion ads in August, followed by Hulu with 1.1 billion. Just shy of the billion-mark was SpotXchange Video Ad Marketplace, with 911 million ads served, last month.
Time spent watching video ads came to 3.5 billion minutes, with BrightRoll Video Network supplying 717 million minutes of video ads.
YouTube lead had 150 million unique viewers in August. Yahoo placed second with 55 million, followed by Microsoft with 54 million, Vevo with 49 million and Facebook.com with almost 48 million.
comScore found the average online content video was 6.7 minutes, and the average online video ad was 0.4 minutes. Video ads also made up 20 percent of all videos viewed, last month.
