Google Introduces Policy Regarding ‘Revenge Porn’

People Can Request Links be Removed to Unauthorized Images

Victims of unwanted sexually explicit images and videos are being given a voice thanks to Google.

Google gThe Internet search engine announced late last week it will remove such images and videos at a victim’s request. That means those who have been the subject of so-called ‘revenge porn’ will be able to ask for the removal of any links to the site carrying the images.

Google, in a blog post, said it has heard from many people regarding the subject and, prompted by the volume of requests, will now take action in such cases.

“Our philosophy has always been that Search should reflect the whole web. But revenge porn images are intensely personal and emotionally damaging, and serve only to degrade the victims—predominantly women,” Amit Singhla, the senior vice president of Google Search, stated in the recent entry.

“So going forward, we’ll honor requests from people to remove nude or sexually explicit images shared without their consent from Google Search results. This is a narrow and limited policy, similar to how we treat removal requests for other highly sensitive personal information, such as bank account numbers and signatures, that may surface in our search results.”

Singhla further explained a web form will be made available in the coming weeks where people will be able to submit their request.

Google isn’t the first company to recognize the impact of such images and take action. Earlier this year, as reported by CNet, Twitter introduced a policy change regarding sexually explicit images and Reddit did so briefly before that.

this is what I call MAKE LIFE BETTER.

that’s why its good sometimes having a woman in top positions, they tend to be soft hearted.

and moreover this is going to bring a little more balance to leaked sex tapes.

This is a no-brainer and should have happened long ago.
