App Also Available for Download in U.K., Australia, Ireland and New Zealand
It’s the app your children have been waiting for.
YouTube Kids is finally coming to Canada as well as Australia, the U.K., Ireland and New Zealand.
YouTube’s app for kids launched in February and, since then, has been downloaded more than 10 million times. The app, which is available for free on Google Play and the App Store, offers up content suitable for young viewers accompanied by safer and easier searches.
“This local version of YouTube Kids puts the content we love in Canada front and centre — think Wild Kratts at the touch of a button and Treehouse Direct on hand to answer tricky questions from curious minds,” reads a blog post on the Google Canada blog by Angela Y. Lin, Google’s head of kids and learning for North America. “It’s our first step in reimagining YouTube for families.”
Children can surf channels and playlists in four categories: Shows, Music, Learning and Explore. They can also do searches for videos on a specific topic.
The app includes favorites from DreamWorks TV Mother Goose Club and Talking Tom and Friendsand as well as new series from YouTube channels that are popular with young viewers. Popular content from Canadian producers and broadcasters such as Kids’ CBC, Super Simple Songs and TVO Kids are also featured.
As soon as the app is opened, a message for parents appears, explaining how videos are recommended and chosen as well as how they can flag videos they feel are inappropriate. Parents can set personal passcodes and choose if they wish to allow their children to perform searches or turn the function off.
It is now available to download for Android or iOS.
