People have a habit of capitalizing so much on the complexities of an activity they forget all about the basics. Projects like website design, data management and their relatives require you to know the basics. You cannot just start anywhere and hope to be successful. Let’s take a look at website design.
When Web design is done seriously
There are several steps you must take to achieve a fantastic Web design for your site. With so many businesses providing Web design services, it can be difficult to choose the best one for your needs. When you get in touch with a company, there are several steps that you should expect to go through.
This is the first phase of website design. It is the stage where the goals of the website owner are determined. What is it you want to achieve using your website? With your goals in place, you will be able to develop your plan successfully. It is at this stage that expectations are managed. There is something that you are expecting from the website designer. The designer is also expecting something from you.
The primary responsibility the designer has is to understand the requirements of the project in graphic detail. As the client, you should strive to understand the various options that are available and how each is going to impact the scope and the budget of the project. The client needs to understand the technology that is required, the budget that is needed and the amount of time that it will take to design the site.
Once the information has been collected, you will go to the second stage: the planning phase. Planning is almost similar to information gathering. In the planning phase, the course of action is developed. Remember, a Web design is not a bottle of milk that you grab and go. It might take a good amount of time to develop your site’s design depending on its complexity and the goals that you have come up with.
If you do not have clear-cut goals, then you are probably going to have an issue when planning. The goals have to be defined in a specific way so that you know exactly what you will need for the job. No one wants to agree on a certain price only to be told later that the price was increased due to the need for some other technology that had not been planned for.
Get down to the actual designing
You are still a long way from the final design. There are several other steps that have to be taken if you are going to get the finest design at the end of it all. Once the information has been gathered and a plan has been developed, take the next step:
The structure of the site is the spine of the whole design. From the information that has been collected up to this point, the general look and feel of the site is going to be determined. The target audience is probably the most important factor that is taken into account here. A site that is being developed to review the latest movies is going to be very different from a site that has been made to give financial advice to investors. The company logo and colors will be taken into consideration. These help to strengthen the character of your company.
Sitemaps and wireframes are developed at this stage. The sitemap helps a lot in understanding the organization of the content. It is very important to keep updating the sitemap after each change. If this is not done, things become very messy. Wireframes are basically sketches of the website which are meant to act as placeholders for the content. They assist in establishment of priorities for the elements on the page, which is a vital activity in the next stage.
Production and development
This is the stage where the site itself is created. All the individual graphic elements that were added in the design stage are going to be taken and used to create a site that actually functions. The content that you have for your site is also going to be distributed throughout the website as is appropriate. Once the design and the layout of the site have been completed, the site then proceeds to engineering work. If the first three steps were done well and exhaustively, this is not going to be a problem.
Testing and collecting feedback
Even cars have to be taken on test drives before they are rolled out to the market. The same thing applies to your website’s design; it has to be tested and modifications made in regard to its performance. Once it has been designed, multiple tests are going to be conducted and feedback collected.
Maintenance is not a huge issue. You might want to make a bit of an alteration to your company logo after some years or update content as time goes by. In most cases, you will be able to do these tasks by yourself.
When design is developed and executed properly, you can be sure you will not have a problem with your site’s design ever again.
