Google Home Available in U.S. for $129

Google Home is here.

First announced at Google’s I/O conference in May, the voice-controlled, AI-powered assistant will hit store shelves in the U.S. next month.

Home, a challenger for Amazon’s AI assistant Echo, is built to be a control center for the home. Much like Amazon’s Echo device, Google Home can perform Internet searches, answer questions and perform tasks like updating your schedule or booking a reservation. The device, which is touch-sensitive, can also be linked to Chromecast and Smart devices and appliances, meaning it can control the temperature in your home, not to mention the Smart fridge and television.

“With Google Home, it’s as simple as using your voice to turn up the music, get answers to a myriad of questions, manage tasks around the house, and even adjust the thermostat or lights,” Home builder and software engineer Ken Mixter said in a blog post. “It allows you to bring the Google Assistant into your kitchen, living room or anywhere else around the house.

Google Home can be customized according to color preference.

Google Home, which supports both Android and iOS, works over Wi-Fi and boasts high-excursion speakers, far-field microphones and sophisticated natural language processing.

To set up the device, simply plug it in and then download the Google Home app on your Smartphone or tablet and follow the instructions.

Google Home only comes in white, but the bottom base comes in grey, black, purple, teal, orange, bronze and white so it can be customized to blend in with your décor.

Available only in the U.S. thus far, the $129 Home comes with a free six-month trial of YouTube Red. The device will ship beginning Nov. 4, at which time it will also be available on store shelves at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Target. The device, of course, is also available at the Google Store.

Google did not say when the device will debut in Canada, the U.K. and other countries.
