Google Drive will soon be able to back up your entire computer.
Google is launching new Backup and Sync tools that will help you back up files and photos from your PC or Mac, the company announced in a blog post.
This means Google Drive can be used to back up a desktop folder in its entirety rather than saving files individually. The tech titan also said it will regularly backup such folders to keep you up-to-date.
That does not mean enterprise users have been left out it the cold, however.
“Backup and Sync is primarily intended for consumer users. We recommend that our G Suite customers continue to use Drive for Mac/PC until our new enterprise-focused solution, Drive File Stream (currently in EAP), is made generally available to all G Suite Basic, Business, Enterprise, Education, and Nonprofit domains later this year,” Google said. “Drive File Stream will allow users to access huge corporate data sets without taking up the equivalent space on their hard drives.”
Company employees that install Drive for Mac/PC on their own computers will be able to download and upgrade to Backup and Sync , however — but that can only happen if companies allow Google Drive for Mac/PC in their organization.
