It’s exciting to start your own business. You become your own boss. You don’t have to hurry to the bus every morning just so you can get to the office right on time. You don’t have to put up with the piles of work your supervisor gives you.

Look, we all feel excited to become our own boss. It’s bound to feel great when you’re the one sitting at the desk while your workers are doing all the work.

But, the thing is, handling your own business is pretty hard. You may be having the idea that as soon as you start running your own business you’ll be filthy rich in no time.

It’s true that if you want to be successful you should run your own business. I mean, when you work for another company, you are working toward making that person rich. When you work for your own company, all your efforts benefit you and your brand.

By making use of SEO, you direct people straight to your business. Through SEO, you’ll be able to reach people beyond your borders.

Produce great content

SEO won’t do you any good if you’re not going to create content.

And when I say content, I don’t mean just any type of content. I’m talking about content that stands out.

You must know by now the impact of online content through various social media platforms.

I’m not just talking about your product descriptions; I’m also reiterating the need for you to have blogs and articles related to your goal.

And content isn’t limited to the written word. It also includes visuals like infographics. Because our eyes have the capacity to make connections in just a split second, pictures and creative designs will also stand out.

Visual content creation tools like Canva, Photo Grid, and Designspiration are great venues to sharpen your digital designing skills, while giving your site or page a much-needed page visit boost.

In terms of written content, a well-researched one always stands out. Consider inbound linking to reputable sites and world-acclaimed industry leaders. Doing so will give your content a professional vibe too.

Use connections

Use your acquaintances like family members, ex co-workers, and even past clients to spread the good word about your new business.

Always make a habit to follow-up on e-mails, especially on occasions like Christmas and Thanksgiving:  “Hi! I hope you aren’t overworked this Christmas season. I’d also like to invite you to visit my new business’ page at (insert link). All the best!”

This lets them know that you’re offering something.

Give small tokens to your first set of subscribers

It’s imperative to thank your first few page or website subscribers with a token of appreciation. It could be small discount coupons on your product, or other generic gift certificates.

Also, holding small competitions or contests on your page can spread across social media like wild fire. It lets your small business be exposed to a whole new community of potential consumers.

The abovementioned online marketing tips for small business owners are just the basics. Techniques like paying for online ads and having Quora, Pinterest, or LinkedIn accounts can work wonders too.

At the end of the day, your business’ marketing success will still hinge on your efforts. Your business may be a small fry right now, but you’ll never know the places it can go if you just persevere.
