Twitter is one of the most effective social networks for small businesses, but with more than 328 million active users, it can be hard to stand out. Below, we’ve rounded up five ways that you can transform your business Twitter account and generate more leads and attention.
Look the part
On social media, first impressions count. Find a high quality version of your logo and use it as your profile image, and then create an attractive header image that meets Twitter’s 1500×421 pixel recommendation. If you’re not experienced in graphic design, consider outsourcing to someone who is, or use a free online tool like Canva or Photoshop.com.
Take part in a Twitter hour
Twitter hours (also known as Twitter chats) are a great way of standing out and putting your brand in front of potential new followers. You can find a full list of U.K. Twitter hours here. As soon as you’ve found one you want to take part in, put it in your diary and start tweeting at the scheduled times. To boost engagement, remember to use the chosen hashtag and like, retweet, follow and respond to other users who are taking part in the chat.
Experiment with different content formats
Not every piece of content you post on Twitter has to be a blog post or a link to your site. To maximize engagement rates and help your profile stand out, experiment with content formats. Tweets with images get three times more engagement than those without, while video content and GIFs, polls and live streams can also boost your profile’s visibility.
Create a Moment
Twitter introduced its Moments tab last year as a way for users to find and interact with more content, whether news stories or entertainment pieces. Now, you can create your own Moments to create conversation and get people talking abut your business. Social Media Examiner has created a guide to using Twitter Moments for business.
Pay for an ad
Twitter first announced its advertising program in 2010, but today it’s a great way to grow your profile and get more eyes on your content. Promoted tweets aren’t expensive – you can top up your account with £50 ($67 USD) and get thousands of promoted tweet impressions. Experiment with your budget and audience segmentation and you’ll quickly see new followers, engagements and clicks through to your website.
There you have it – five great ways to make your Twitter profile stand out. Whether you’re new to the social network or you just want to get more from it, good luck!
