Facebook Upgrades its Old Poke Feature

Facebook is testing out some new ways to help you be more social.

The social network has taken its inspiration from the long forgotten poke button to offer users new ways to greet one another.

Users in Canada, the U.K., Australia, Columbia, France and Thailand can now send friends a wave, hug, wink, poke or high five.

Located at the bottom, right-hand corner of friends’ cover photos is a Hello button. Simply hover over that to see your greeting options on your PC or hold the button on your mobile device.

If you choose to send a hug greeting, a pair of arms will wrap around your friend’s profile picture, while a poke will prod the recipient’s photo.

Facebook has not said when it will roll out the functionality to all members. That will likely depend on how much use the buttons get in their test countries.
