google pagerankUsers running a PPC Campaign in the Google AdWords platform are given the choice of displaying ads on the Google Search Network and/or on the Content Network. I have never been a big fan of advertising on Content Networks, as I find the automated matching process to be less than ideal. I can generally browse the net and quickly find ads that are irrelevant to the sites they are displayed on. This can give one a healthy dose of skepticism.

While advertising on Content doesn’t generally cost a great deal, we have never seen much in the way of results. By and large we do Search Network only, however recently I have had to re-assess that view.

webmastersAccording to an article in PC World Magazine, the average visitor spends between 25 - 45 seconds viewing the main page of a web site. That’s about enough time to read this article to the point you are at right now and, maybe, most of the way through the next paragraph. With that short an amount of time available to get someone’s attention, your main page better do a pretty good job of selling. The problem is, most main pages do not get the job done as well as they could.

Sure, you could hire a professional copywriter to re-work your sales page. Then all you have to do is keep testing different copy versions until you either run out of money or you hit upon the winning combination of words.

list buildingEmail marketing is a fabulous way to market your products and services to your readers and make sales—*if* they bother to open your emails to read them! In the world of marketing communications, your first impression — your headline — can lead to either marketing success or failure. The only way headlines will work is if they appeal to your reader’s interests. The best headlines are designed to:

social mediaWe are hearing how we should promote our websites through social marketing strategies by submitting our content to web 2.0 websites. So many of us have not caught up with, nor have we found the time to get on top of how quickly social marketing changes. And it is fickle as it depends on the likes and dislikes of the communities you belong to.

Maybe you are wondering why you should succumb to the newest internet hype of social marketing. I suppose it pays to keep up with everyone else. How else are your customers going to find you? As you know, making changes to your website helped your search engine optimization. Nowadays portable files like PDFs and video files are submitted to social networking sites where the content fits in to help your content’s visibility.

search engine spidersSince links are the fabric of the web and they allow us to move from page to page and site to site, they also play a crucial role in deciphering the context of your site when analyzed from outside sources (particularly from search engines).

Call it osmosis, link transference or what you like, the fact remains that “what other sites say about you” meaning “how they link to you” (or how you build links) matters. What percentage of inbound anchor text (the text in the link itself) variety does Google and other search engines deem as a significant percentage vs. your on page factors to assess the context of your site? Do they look at your content or your site reputation more when assessing where to rank your content?

website promotionThe Web has gradually transformed itself from a haven for socially dysfunctional misanthropes and programming savants into a grand social and business networking environment. The popularity of MySpace, Facebook, Linkedin and all their various clones serves as evidence that people want to connect to other people. The fact that the Web is a cold, remote, isolated world oddly enhances, and actually encourages the building of relationships.

For those businesses that really don’t know how to effectively use the Web, or those that are interested in actually using their websites for more than a digital brochure, the answer is clear: your website’s most important marketing objective is to connect with a relevant audience and build a productive relationship.

Just Because It’s Trendy, Doesn’t Make It Productive

website trafficArticles are used by the knowledgeable online marketers, because they work in many different ways to increase your website traffic. Let’s take a quick look at just 3 of those ways…

Firstly, when you submit your articles to article directories, there are particular ones that are popular with the search engines. This means a properly constructed article can get a page 1 ranking for a tightly defined keyword phrase, which puts you right in front of targeted traffic who are looking for what you offer!

website copyThere in front of me sat the unusual “tip” jar, with a twist. I stood at the new coffee shop in town ordering the usual concoction to quench my caffeine craving when I noticed the sign on the jar. The sassy and delightful gal named Nadean went to fix my brew and there was, left to consider the tip offer. Instead of the usual jar for leaving tips that you see in nearly every coffee joint from Starbucks to the local hang outs, there sat this jar with an offer facing me. Instead of the of the everyday sign with “Tips” printed on it, this one said, “Tips Make You Sexy!”. I nearly laughed out loud.Of course I had no newly found delusions that my key to renewing my sexiness hinged on whether I threw a buck in the pot or not. Still, I liked it. It turned my head, made me notice it. It was also a quick lesson in great marketing that is so often forgotten. Sticking the unexpected in places where the expected is, well… expected.

link baitHere is a brief synopsis of integrating SEO, Link Building and a (CMS) Content Management System for optimal results. After studying the top ranking sites in multiple niches, one thing is resolute regardless of the industry.

  • The introduction of consistent, fresh content.
  • A pliable content management system
  • Intricate naming conventions supported by a logical semantic infrastructure
  • strong internal linking
  • A method to encourage external links (RSS, Social Media, Forum participation or large user base) external link popularity.

seoOver the years, webmasters have been told that they should want to avoid Blackhat SEO techniques in connection with their own websites. In general, I agree with this statement. But, by obtaining a deeper understanding of Blackhat search engine optimization, one could actually learn a bit about how to better his or her own positioning in the search engine results.

White Hat vs. Black Hat Search Optimization

Whitehat and Blackhat SEO is a comparison that is a take-off from the old cowboy westerns, where the good guys always wore white hats and the bad guys always wore black hats. So, in theory, we can assume that Whitehat practitioners are the good guys of SEO, and Blackhat practitioners are the bad guys of the industry.
