Communication Applications & Tools

Below are software applications that were selected for inclusion in the daily SiteProNews newsletter. The programs are both shareware and freeware, and all were selected for their usefulness to webmasters in the management of their web sites.

MiTeC Mail Viewer (699 K) is an easy-to-use email message viewer for Microsoft Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Windows Vista & Live mail, and other EML files. You can view, sort, print, filter by keyword, etc. Standalone software, no installation required. Freeware for all Windows.

Ingelek F2F 1.0 (1 MB) allows you to see and share files privately with your friends. Simply drag and drop encrypted files to your friends shared folders; tasks can be interrupted at anytime and continued when friends are back online, etc. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

Twitter DM Deleter 1.0 (64 KB) is a portable tool that allows you to quickly view and delete Direct Messages (DMs) in your Twitter account. Freeware for Window 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

Core FTP LE 2.2 (3,439 KB) is a secure FTP client that gives you a reliable way to update and maintain your website via FTP. Check out the list of features and you'll find almost everything you need to manage your sites and servers.

Twitter Marketing Scheduler 2.01 (1.5 MB) allows you to manage your Twitter postings, schedule multiple posts, track your tweets and auto submit your posts. Staff-FTP 2.93 ( 1.6 MB) is an advanced FTP client. Features include standard options like upload, download, query, sitemanager, browseable windows and almost every other option found in other FTP clients as well as unique features like TLS / SSL encryption, URL importer, server-to-server-transfer (FXP), FXP status, custom commands, etc. Freeware for Windows 95 and above.

Meetro 1.0.1570 (3.7 MB) is the first location-aware IM client and real-time social network which means you can interact with real people in your area. Instan-t (6.8 MB) is an instant messenger multi-person messaging app with video chat which communicates with ICQ, AOL, AIM, MSN and Yahoo. Chat with users from any IM client in the same chat session. Freeware for Windows.

ALFTP v4.1 Beta 1 (2.4 MB) is an easy FTP client for beginners with a speedy interface for power-users. Upload and download files, share files with friends, edit files directly on servers, drag and drop, etc. Freeware for Windows 98 and above.

Network Magic 3 (6.7 MB) monitors and repairs your network, allows sharing of printers and files, provides wireless network security and gives you access to your computer from anywhere.Freeware version for Windows 98/ Me/ 2000/ XP has fewer features than the full version.

Tango DropBox (980 KB) allows you to upload files and folders without launching an FTP application. Simply drag and drop files on to the Tango DropBoxes you create on your desktop. Easy setup and you can create unlimited Tango Dropboxes. Freeware for Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 Server. Requires Microsoft.net.

Check4Me (3.7 MB) can monitor an unlimited number of web sites, FTP folders, FTP files, local folders and files for changes. The program can automatically check for, and report on, changes covering intervals between 1 minute to several days. Fr'eeware for Windows 98/ ME/ NT4/ 2000/ XP.

eXpress IP Locator (238 KB) is a small offline utility for determining country information from IP-address, viewing IP-address blocks allocated for specified countries and finding the country by code or code by country. Freeware. For Windows Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP.

FTPEdit is one of those handy little freeware programs that you can't do without once you've tried it. It allows you to edit your web pages in a Notepad-like environment and save them on your FTP server as if it was your hard drive. FTP Navigator (640 kb) lets you upload and download data or delete one or more files, including whole folders along with subdirectories. The transfer interface window shows what percentage of files has already been uploaded or downloaded. WS-FTP Home (690 kb) is a great application that allows remote file edits, chmods on UNIX boxes and file moves. WS-FTP has been around a long time and is still a top-rated FTP app. Shareware $39.95. Free 30 day trial.

SmartFTP (300 KB) is an advanced, feature-packed, easy to use FTP client for Win 9x/ME/2K/NT. Too many features to list here. Free for personal use.

WebSite Extractor (640 KB) is one of the fastest known website downloaders available today. Gives you complete control over downloads from individual servers, folders, URLs, and files using keywords. Can download many websites at one time. Free trail. $29.95 registration fee.

WinVNC VNC (563 KB) is a remote display system which allows you to view a computing desktop environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures. Requires free registration. For all O/S.

Shuttle FTP Suite 3.3 (1.3 MB) is a nine-in-one utility that includes an FTP client and server, a TFTP client and server, Telnet, finger, whois, ping, traceroute, time and date-time utilities. It can also upload files to multiple FTP sites. Shareware ($25 and worth it) for Windows 95/ 98/ ME/ NT/ 2000/ 2003/ XP.

Thingamablog (3.6 MB) is a blogging app and RSS feed reader that allows you to publish your own weblog without the need of any html knowledge or the use of third party services. Publish your blog directly to a ftp server or specified network location. Includes professional template designs and allows you to track XML/RSS feeds with the integrated feed reader, as well as generate a RSS compatible version of your own blog and import entries from RSS/Atom feeds. FreeFTP (1.2 MB) is a file transfer protocol program that supports 10 different languages, allows for multiple file drag & drop, saves all URL, password & ID information, supports group file send, receive & delete, checks for duplicates, and has many other features. Requires MSVBVM50.DLL runtime which can be downloaded from the same download site. For Windows 9x/ 2000/ NT.

RightFTP (750 KB) ia a FTP client with a wide range of features, including Drag'n'Drop file transfers, Drag'n'Drop file/ directory moving, site manager, firewall support, quick connect, multi-threaded data transfers and much more. Freeware. For Windows 95/ 98/ ME/ NT/ 2000.

Cyberduck 4.1 (13 MB) is an open-source FTP/SFTP client. The easy-to-use interface supports Google Docs, WebDAV, Amazon S3 cloud storage, Rackspace Cloud Files and directory synchronization. You can edit docs, manage files, organize your bookmarks, etc. Freeware for Windows XP/ Vista/ 7 and Mac OS X 10.5 or later and 10.7 Lion.

BestSync 6.2 (6.3 MB) is a File/FTP synchronization utility. Features include synchronization tasks in groups by tab view; synchronizes e-mail and contacts; file backup, restore and filtering, etc. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ 2003/ Vista/ 7.

TweetTwain 2.0 (1 KB) helps you manage multiple Twitter accounts and business pages. You can create, manage, monitor, and measure your marketing campaigns, generate reports, view the link statistics (ie link click count, click locations), set auto-reply messages, etc. Freeware for all Windows, Mac & Linux running Java.

Axence NetTools Pro 4.0 (11.37 MB) is a set of networking tools. Features include network monitoring, port scanner, NetStat, TCP/IP Workshop, etc. You can monitor ping responses and get email alerts, troubleshoot TCP/IP problems and export stats to HTML, XML, and CVS. Cerberus FTP Server 4.0 (4899 KB) is an easy to use multi-threaded windows FTP server. Instant Housecall (833 KB) is a simple remote control application that grants you temporary access to a remote computer. Allows you to see the desktop, move the mouse and open and close apps just as if you were sitting in front of that computer. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista.

net2ftp (4.0 MB) is a web based FTP client. You can upload, download, zip and unzip files; copy, move, and delete directories; edit with HTML, view code with syntax highlighting, etc. Freeware.

Chit Chat for Facebook 1.3 (3.8 MB) is a tabbed IM client that allows you to chat with multiple Facebook contacts without the need for a web browser. Freeware for Windows 98/ NT/ 2k/ Me/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

GigaTribe 3.00 (8.1 MB) allows you to create a private file-sharing network to transfer any files between you and up to 500 of your colleagues. Exchanges are encrypted. Indline Messenger (11.5 MB) is a communication platform. Features include instant messaging with multi video & multi audio, a multimedia conference / chat room and multimedia mail. Send a video mail, voice mail and/or text messages (SMS). Other features include productivity tools such as agenda, address book, word processing, spread sheet and social networking. RavenDesk 1.8 (5.5 MB) is an Adobe Air app that allows you to sends thousands of SMS via the internet. Features include an address book organized in groups, support for SMS longer than 160 characters, scheduled delivery and customizing messages with sender name or telephone number. digsby (4.5 MB) is an IM client that lets you chat with friends on AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber; an email notification tool that alerts you of new email on Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL/AIM Mail, IMAP, and POP; and a social networking tool that alerts you of new messages and gives you a live Newsfeed from Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn. eamViewer 3.5 (1.3 MB) is a simple solution for remote control, desktop sharing and file transfer that works behind any firewall and NAT proxy. Miranda IM v0.6.8 (1.1 MB) is an open source instant messenger client that supports AIM, Jabber, ICQ, IRC, MSN, Yahoo etc. Uses minimal memory and requires no installation. CrossFTP 1.34a is a multi-tabbed GUI FTP client that uses an explorer-like interface and has numerous features, including drag-and-drop, recursive file transferring, image viewer, online editing, filtering; auto-reconn, etc. Freeware for Windows 98+, Unix, Linux and Mac. Requires Java 1.4+.

Web Site Publisher (868 KB) is an intelligent FTP publishing tool which can upload the web site you develop on your computer to the web. Make changes on your computer and it updates just those sections of your website that have changed. Freeware for Windows 98/ ME/ NT/ 2K/ XP.

FileZilla 2.2.26a (3.4 MB) is a powerful FTP/ SFTP client that includes a site manager to store connection details and logins and an explorer style interface that shows local and remote folders. AWStats (826 KB) is a powerful, feature rich log analyzer that generates advanced web (as well as ftp or mail) server stats, graphically. Works as a CGI or from command line and shows all the information your log contains in few graphical web pages.
