Multimedia Applications & Tools

Below are software applications that were selected for inclusion in the daily SiteProNews newsletter. The programs are both shareware and freeware, and all were selected for their usefulness to webmasters in the management of their web sites.

KMPlayer/KMP PLus 3.1 (21.5 MB) is an all-in-one media player. The program will play various formats such as VCD, DVD, AVI, 3GP, MPEG-1/2/4, WMV, RealMedia, and QuickTime. It has an extra feature that will play Incomplete/Damaged AVI files, Locked Media Files, etc. Freeware for Windows 98/ 2K/ Me/ XP/ 2003/ Vista/ 7.

Balabolka (6.6 MB) is a Text-To-Speech (TTS) program. The program can read text from a variety of documents (Office formats, PDF, text files, web pages) and it can also export the text recording to WAV, MP3, MP4, OGG or WMA file. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

Upload Rabbit for Facebook 2.0 (2.5 MB) is an easy-to-use app which enables you to upload photos and videos to Facebook directly. Using your right-click menu you can quickly upload photos or videos from local disks to your Facebook Profile account without logging in Facebook via your browser. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

JAlbum (15.7 MB) allows you to create photo galleries for the web. Simply select or drag/drop folders containing movie files or images onto JAlbum. It will create thumbnails and HTML pages to publish your images as a gallery or picture slideshow. Includes optional Shutterfly integration, etc. Freeware for Windows XP/ Vista/ 7.

BurnAware Free 3.1 (50 MB) is a CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc burning program. You can create backup data discs, Audio CDs, MP3 and WMA discs for a PC or compatible CD/DVD player and it supports the burning of video DVDs from a VIDEO_TS folder structure, etc. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

WebVideoCap 1.4 (31 KB) is a small tool that allows you to automatically capture video streams while they are playing in your browser and save to a folder. Supports .flv (Flash Video), .MP4, .WMV and RTSP/MMS video streams. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

ManyCam 2.4.55 (14.8 MB) allows you to use your webcam with multiple programs - Skype, AIM, PalTalk, etc. - at the same time. Add text, cool animations, special effects and local day and date to your webcam video window. Freeware for Mac and Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista/ 2008/ 7.

Update: YouTube to MP3 Converter 1.1 (3.9 MB) can download videos from YouTube and convert them to MP3, WMA and WAV audio formats. Just paste in the Video URL and click start for automatic download and file conversion. Freeware for Windows 98/ Me/ NT/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

Free Audio Recorder 6.0.0 (1,473 KB) is an audio recorder which captures various sound input to WAV, MP3 WMA and OGG audio formats. Capable of recording from CD player, line in, microphone, internet radio, tape cassette and anything your can hear on your computer.

Free YouTube Utility 2.02 (5.2 MB) is a single-step solution to download, convert and play YouTube videos without having to use a web browser. Freeware for Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003/ 7.

Leawo FLV Converter (23 MB) is an easy-to-use FLV to video converter that converts FLV files to video in popular formats like AVI, MP4, MPEG, WMV, etc. Freeware for Windows NT/ 2000/ XP/ Vista.

MediaTracker 1.1 (44.8 MB) provides an easy way to display pictures, stream music and video directly to another computer. Files don't have to be transferred to show them. Simply open a picture in the viewer, and it appears on the other person's screen. You can zoom, rotate and adjust image brightness and contrast. Suports VOIP communication and webcams. MakeInstantPlayer 1.20 (6.4 MB) is a tool for converting video files into self-running executables. Useful for video distribution since end users don't require any additional software for playback. ShiftCast (8.9 MB) is a broadband system that allows you to watch movies, videos, live TV, listen to music and streaming radio, chat, play games, download MP3s and broadcast your own media. Freeware for Windows XP.

WildVoice Studio 1.0 (26.5 MB) makes it easy and fun to record podcasts and other audio. Create professional, quality podcasts in minutes. Just talk live and mix in music and other recordings. Freeware for Windows XP. Requires online registration.

Netvue Image Finder 2.0 (324 KB) searches for internet images and then displays the full-sized pictures in a slideshow format. You can save selected images, set desktop wallpaper, email pictures to friends or open your browser to the original page the image was found on. Freeware for all Windows versions.

WifiRadio (10.7 MB) is a Desktop Media Player, Broadcast Machine and Windows Mobile Media Player rolled into one unique application. Great for bloggers, publishers, musicians and anyone who wants to run their own radio station. Supports most popular audio, video and playlist formats. Freeware for Windows XP.

Freecorder (983 KB) is an easy-to-use program that lets you record any sound you can hear on your PC, including Skype calls. Recordings are saved as MP3 files. You can also record from the microphone or line-in inputs! Freeware for Windows 98 and higher.

It supports recording sound source from microphone, audio streaming, winamp, windows media player, quick time, real player, flash, games, etc. Freeware for Windows 95 and above.

XVid (772 KB) is a video player designed for watching movies saved in different formats such as avi, mpeg, asf, and DivX. Features include simple user interface, window and fullscreen display, zoom, auto-playing movies by playlist and much more. Freeware for Windows 98/ME/XP/2000/2003.

ApicViewer (2.4 MB) is an automatic Usenet Newsgroup multimedia files searcher and downloader. Ideal for pictures, movies and sounds. Orange Photo Editor (576 KB) allows you to view, manage and publish photos on your website. It can create thumbnails, resize photos and generate HTML pages. Freeware for Windows 98/ ME/ XP/ NT4.x/ 2000.

MyViewPad (2.6 MB)uses the best digital graphics engine available. It reads about 80 image formats and writes to about 25 formats. Nice interface with a number of image editing functions. It can also receive images from scanners and cameras. Freeware for Windows 98 and above.
