Office Applications & Tools

Below are software applications that were selected for inclusion in the daily SiteProNews newsletter. The programs are both shareware and freeware, and all were selected for their usefulness to webmasters in the management of their web sites.

Search for phrases or words in Word, Excel and Powerpoint, PDF, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, images, video, etc. Freeware for Windows XP/ Vista/ 7.

Express Planner (144 MB) is a free project management software program. The planning tools features allow you to create projects, tasks, milestones and dependencies; associate calendars, impose date constraints and set goals; enter the progress of your tasks, associate notes, etc. Freeware for Windows XP/ Vista/ 7 and Mac OS X v10.6.

Copper POS Software (342 KB) is a cash register system for businesses that stores product information making the checkout process quicker and more accurate for you and your customers. Features allow you to record sales transactions, print receipts, manage product pricing and discounts, etc. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

ScheduleOnce Personal Edition is a group of Google add-ons that allows you to create, schedule, and manage meetings from your own working environment (ie your Gmail account, Google Calendar, browser toolbar, etc). Freeware.

TheSage 4.0 (8.5 MB) is a complete English language dictionary and thesaurus. You can perform a wildcard and anagram search, copy all or portions of lookup to the clipboard, switch between results using the tabbed interface, etc. Freeware for Windows 2K/ XP/ 2003/ Vista/ 7.

FocusWriter 1.3 (6.4 MB) is a full-screen word processor that provides a distraction-free environment allowing you to focus on your writing. Features include as-you-type spell checker, auto save, live stats (word and page count) etc. Freeware for Windows XP/ Vista/ 7.

PolySoft Crypt Edit 4.1 (1.1 M) is a powerful word processor that can be used as a replacement for Windows NotePad and WordPad. You can easily create, modify, protect, post and print your documents. Includes several configurable toolbars, spell check, templates and bookmarks, integrated e-mail client/address book, advanced editing, etc. Freeware for Windows 98/ 2K/ XP/ Vista/ 7.

CreaWriter 1.0 (4,127 KB) CreaWriter is a Windows program designed to increase your productivity and creativity. Provides full screen with acalm background and natural sounds. Saves as txt or rtxt format.

PlusOffice (175 MB) is set of office applications, based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, featuring Writer (text editing), Calc (spreadsheet), Impress (multimedia presentations), Base (database), Draw, Math, etc. Freeware version for Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista does not include clipart, backgrounds, some templates or tech support.

PolyEdit Lite 5.2 (2.6 MB ) is a lightweight, reliable and fast word processor. Has the usual text formatting tools, search and replace, support for images and objects, etc. Opens and saves documents in RTF, MS Word 95-2007, Unicode and other formats. Documents can be exported to HTML and PDF and encrypted for security. Freeware for Windows 98 or higher.

Viper 1.2.0.2 (705 KB) is a plagiarism scanner that can scan local databases or the Web to ensure your work is original and not infringing copyright. Or, it can be used to see if your work is being plaigiarized by others. Requires registration. Freeware for Windows 98/ XP/ Vista.

Iticale Accounting 1.00 (5.5 MB) is an accounting program for small business and personal accounting. A full set of features is provided on site. Freeware for Windows XP/ Vista.

Graphics2PDF (4.6 MB) is a PDF file creator that can convert bmp, jpg, gif, png, tiff images to a PDF document. Simply drag'n'drop image files into the program and "Save". Freeware for Windows XP/ 2000/ 2003.

CSVed 1.4.6 (975 KB) allows you to edit CSV files with any separator. The CSV file contents are displayed in a listview window that allows you to easily edit, add, insert, delete and move items as if they were in a database table. PDF to Word Converter 1.1 (598 KB) is a small stand-alone utility that can convert any .pdf file to MS Word, exporting the text, images and other content and preserving the text, layout and bitmap images in the generated Word document. Freeware for Windows NT/ 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista.

Calgoo Calendar 1.5.1 (19.7 MB) is unique calendar software that manages multiple calendars and schedules, contacts and tasks online and offline. Synchronizes with Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar and iCal format. Freeware for Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac and Linux.

NolaPro 4.0.2516 (65 MB) is a flexible world-class accounting system designed for any size business. Includes complete web-based accounting services and allied business functionality. Freeware license for Linux and Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista. Requires registration.

Sprinx CRM Start 5.0.4 (59.4 MB) is an entry level CRM solution that handles contact information, relationships, orders, activities, marketing campaigns, planning, reporting, etc. Integrated with major business registers, email functionality and Microsoft Outlook. Freeware for Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista.

Express Accounting 2.0 (46.5 MB) is a commercial grade accounting program for a single company, single user. It offers a full suite of integrated accounting and operations management modules covering accounts, bank, inventory, purchase and payable, tax management, etc. as well as detailed financial and management reports via Crystal Reports. Dynacom Accounting (56.3 MB) is a fully functional accounting package that provides effective sales management and business reports. Freeware for Windows 98/ ME/ 2Kx/ XP.

Lastes Accounting 1.5 (49 MB) is a full featured, user-friendly modular accounting package. Each module comes with many drill-downs and lookups. Angel Writer (1.5 MB) is a text editor allowing you to create impressive documents that contain formatted text, graphics and tables. You can learn Angel Writer in five minutes since it is similar to Microsoft Word. Freeware for Win9x/ ME/ NT4/ 2000/ XP.

PrimoPDF (10.2 MB) allows you to create PDF files from Word, Excel, PowerPoint and virtually any other printable file type. Installs as a virtual printer and is accessible from any program that offers a Print option. Also offers optimized PDF output for printing to standard laser printers or for onscreen viewing. Newsgroup Commander (659 KB) is a newsgroup reader and search program. Allows fast email message downloading from select newsgroups and can extract information from newsgroups using multiple include/exclude keyword filters based on article content and subjects. Volutive (3.9 MB) is a freeware invoicing system for individuals or businesses. Customize invoice templates, print them, and/or email perfect copies in .pdf or .jpeg format. Save or email any report in html format. For Windows 95 and higher.

AbiWord (4.9 MB) is a word processing program similar to MS Word. Features a familiar-looking interface, paragraph alignment, spell checker, rulers, unlimited undo/redo, find/replace, and more. It can also import Word documents. Freeware for Windows 95 and up, Mac, Linux, etc.

EverNote (6.0 MB) is an app that stores all of your notes in one location. Capture and find all kinds of notes, including text, web, email, handwriting, image clips and more. Content is stored on an endless, virtual, time-stamped roll so you can jump to any date and scroll through your notes, without having to open them. Freeware for Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003.

Go2PDF (261 KB) allows the conversion of MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, image and text files into PDF format with a simple click. Libre Office 3.4 (190 MB) is a productivity suite (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, database designer, etc.) similar to MS Office and OpenOffice.
