Seven Important Reasons To Build An Email List
By Susanne Myers in Featured
Are you actively building at least one list in your niche right now? If not, you’re missing out on quite a bit of potential growth and income. Let’s talk about seven reasons why you need to build a list.
Build A Relationship With Your Readers
The main reason to build a list is to be able to build a relationship with your readers. They have to know like and trust you before they ever consider buying something through your site (be it your own product or an affiliate offer). A list allows you to stay in touch and gives them that chance.
Connecting With Your Target Market
Not only are you building a relationship with your subscribers, you’re also connecting with your target audience. This means that once you have a list, you can ask them what they want to learn more about, what problems they are facing and the likes.
Bring People Back To Your Site
An email list also allows you to bring visitors back to your site. How many times have you been surfing the net, ended up on a really great site…but half an hour later you can’t remember what it was or how to get back to it (unless you spend a lot of time going through your browser history, which no one does). With an email list, you can continually send them more and more great content that includes links back to your site.
Branding Yourself As The Expert
And speaking of great content…it, in combination with a list allows you to brand yourself as an expert. Your readers get great advice from you over and over again on a certain topic. It won’t take them long to figure out that you know what you’re talking about…which again builds the trust you need to create a profitable and sustainable online business.
Easy To Automate
One of my favorite aspects of list building is the fact that it’s so easy to automate. I set up my list once, I drive traffic to the pages of my site that contain an opt-in box and then I start adding email messages to my autoresponder. Each of these things I only have to do once, but they will continue to work for months and years to come… growing my list, making money from my list etc.
Making Multiple Offers
Another big advantage of having a list is that you can make multiple offers. Think about this…if you are passionate about gardening, you’re not going to buy just one gardening book, subscribe to one magazine and buy one set of tools. Instead you’re going to get several of each and you’ll keep spending more and more on your hobby. Your target audience is no different. By having a list you can make them multiple related offers (again, both your own products or affiliate offers or a combination of both).
Being Able To Generate Income With The Push Of A Button
Last but not least, let’s talk about the reason that brings me the biggest peace of mind. If you have a responsive list (even if it’s relatively small), you have the ability to generate extra income at the push of a button. There have been many a times when we needed a few hundred extra dollars for unexpected bills. Each time I was able to come up with the extra cash just by sending a special offer to one of my lists.
I hope this convinces you that having a list for your online business is important and that this article encourages you to get started right away. In fact, I’m so passionate about this, I’ve put together a great resource for you. How You Can Make A List Using Facebook
By Cathy Quel in Featured
Nearly every one of you have heard the saying, “the money is in the list”. That is very true today and will be for the foreseeable future. Having a great subscriber list is a fantastic way to let people know as soon as you have updated your website or your blog and as you you have new products or services which they may very well be interested in. Maybe you have a new product and need to get the word out fast. Facebook is a good means to do that. If using Facebook is a great method of getting your message out and building your subscriber list is the ideal way to make money, how can you combine the two? How can you use Facebook to create a great subscriber list?
The conventional way that a business person gets people to subscribe is by placing a sign up form on their website. This usually is a fantastic way to get subscribers, but there’s a different way that’s even better. This is a strategy for anyone who wish to use Facebook in conjunction with building your list.
First, Create your Facebook Page
Of course, this is the first thing that you need to do. If you do not have a Facebook page yet, you should head over to Facebook pages to start creating your page. In case you are unsure what you want your page to look like, browse different business Facebook pages to generate some ideas.
This way you will see precisely how the page is structured as well as what you would like to include on it. Don’t forget to include links to your website from this page.
When people visit your Facebook page, you would like to have them sign up to be a subscriber. It’s alright to request that they ‘like’ your page, however it is much more effective to have them sign up. Having them sign up gives you their email address. So, how should you get people to register when they are on your Facebook page?
Create a Facebook Subscriber List
It is possible to build a subscriber list that is only associated with your Facebook page. This way, when you send something out to your subscriber list, you are also able to put the notification on your Facebook page. Then, those people who have ‘liked’ your page will receive the notice in their feeds. If they happen to be interested by your articles, that will bring them back to your Facebook page.
You can also send visitors to your website from your Facebook page by giving a free report or free ebook. It is possible to put the notification on your page and then direct people to your website to subscribe on your subscriber form to then get your free report.
This method is absolutely better than just having people ‘like’ your page because they’re registering on your subscriber form so you then have their email address.
However, sometimes it is a bit more difficult to get others to leave your Facebook page and then actually sign up for your free report on your website. The easiest way could be for you to combine the two approaches. Use your traffic campaigns to get people to your Facebook page and after that occasionally put an invitation on your page to tell people about your freebie if they head over to your website and register. Again, you need to test to see what will give you the results you want as well as what will work for your business.
So, how will you use Facebook to build your list? Offer your visitors both opportunities. Offer your visitors who like to hear what is happening with your business the opportunity to ‘like’ your page and after that use their feeds for updates and also offer your visitors the opportunity to go to your website to sign up as a subscriber and receive a free ebook or report. Just test what is best for your target market.

List Building – Are Lists In The Billions Possible?
By Titus Hoskins in Featured
Computers combined with the Internet have made building huge lists, not only very common, but also much easier than in the past. Of course, it does help if you’re a well known celebrity or have a well known brand name. Lady GaGa just passed 10 million followers on Twitter, putting Ashton Kutcher to shame with around 7 million and leaving Google in the dust which has a mere 3 million followers.
However, Google would probably be your best bet if you want to argue that lists in the billions are definitely possible. Just consider all the people who use Gmail, Google Accounts, iGoogle, ChromeBrowser, Chromebook, YouTube… and all the other countless programs and sites
Google controls and collects contact information from its users. Of course, only Google knows the exact numbers, but you would probably end up counting a lot of zeros.
Then you have to consider other major list builders on the web such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn… all of these are racking up impressive numbers and bringing up the value of their stocks in the process. In actual fact, it could be argued that the company which ends up with the most people on their list will be the ultimate winner on the web. The advertising and marketing power of having a detailed profile (with all the contact and background information, buying habits and even credit scores) on hundreds of millions or even billions of Internet users is simply priceless.
One sometimes gets the feeling that the average person on the street has no idea how priceless these lists really are? They simply don’t realize how economically valuable having all this information at your disposal can be AND how having permission to email, phone or write to these members or contacts can be used to your advantage? Unless you have seen these economic benefits first-hand and in practice, you will not be able to fully grasp the significance or the true power of list building.
And we are not just talking about big name multinational companies here, the same applies to any small business owner or webmaster. Building your contact list can prove very beneficial and worthwhile. Even building a community around your site or blog can prove very helpful when it comes to building traffic, gaining backlinks and improving your sales. Mainly because, as any marketer will tell you, having a ready list of targeted potential customers for your products or services will improve your bottom line. A list of repeat customers is worth its weight in gold.
But how realistic is it for the average marketer or webmaster to build a list in the thousands or even millions? That answer will depend on how much traffic you’re currently getting with your site or sites? If you have a steady flow of targeted traffic then building a list in the thousands will be quite easy, most times it will simply mean placing a subscribe form/box on all your webpages. Add a free ebook, ecourse or report and you will probably double those numbers. Actively building your list with article marketing, co-op list building, videos…will push those subscription numbers even higher.
Actually, building lists in the millions, is not out of the question. There are plenty of pimple-faced teenagers on YouTube and Twitter who have millions of subscribers or followers. And while these third-party sites are not ideal, they do make list building relatively simple and easy. In the case of YouTube, you do have a lucrative income stream (Google Adsense) already built into the system.
However, as every list builder knows, you shouldn’t get hung up on the numbers. It is not the size of your list which counts, but how effective you are at building a responsive relationship with your subscribers. For example, if you have a list of 10,000 and 10% buy your product or click your link then that’s as good as having a list of 100,000 where only 1% buy your product or click your link.
The same goes for a list in the billions, it will be the effectiveness of these lists which will be the key to their worth. In the coming years, one would imagine that a Google or a Microsoft will know how to handle and market these lists of billions. Fortunes could even rise or fall on how well these relationships are built and nurtured. If you don’t believe any of this is possible, then you still have a lot to learn about list building.

Building A Responsive Subscriber List
By Celene Harrelson in Featured
When you first get started in Internet marketing, building your list can be confusing. How do you build a subscriber list? Is there a step by step process? Are there rules? How in the world do you get people to sign up?
By now I’m sure you’ve heard the term” the money is in the list”. The truth of the matter is that the money is in the list. As an Internet marketer, your income is dependent upon your list. You must have a targeted responsive permission-based subscriber list. This is the single most important ingredient in your business. It’s absolutely crucial to have people to market to.
It is true that the money is in the list. And to take that a step farther, the money is in the targeted list. The quality of your subscribers is more important than the quantity. You will want to grow a list of people who are interested in who you are, what you do and your products and services. It’s better to have a smaller list of people who are interested in your niche, than a huge list of people who could care less. You’re list must be receptive and interested in order for you to convert them from prospects into buyers.
So how do you get started building a list? First you must give your prospects a reason to join your list. You will need to offer a beneficial giveaway to bribe them into giving you their name and e-mail address. This freebie can be anything from a special report, an audio, a video, a teleseminar, webinar, an e-book or a free trial offer.
In order to determine the type of giveaway your prospects would be interested in you have to ask yourself these questions.
* What do they want? * What sort of problem do they have that you can solve? * What sort of information are they desperate to get their hands on?
Your free offer should be of high quality content – something that you should be able to sell. That way they will say “Wow if this was free, I wonder what they’re paid products will be like?”
Next you will have to create an opt in page. This page should be kept short and to the point. It should talk about a perceived pain that the prospect has and a promise of a solution to that pain. There should be an opt in box before the fold of the page. You must also give a very clear call to action. For example ” Fill in your first name and primary e-mail address in the box below to receive your free report.”
Your opt in page should be on a stand-alone web page or WordPress blog with a keyword rich domain name. This way there will be no interferences or other things to pull their attention away from subscribing. The keyword rich domain name will help you get organic traffic.
Next you must create an autoresponder series. There should be seven or more follow-up messages. A multi-part ecourse is perfect for this. In order to get your new subscribers attention the first autoresponder follow-up message should always over deliver!
The most important aspect of your subscriber list is building a relationship with them. They are your bread and butter. They pay your mortgage, make your car payment and pay for your vacations. You must treasure them and treat them well. You must always be thinking about what you can do for them – how can you be of benefit. In return you will build a targeted responsive community of people who want to be in your space, who are receptive to your marketing suggestions and much more likely to buy from you.

List Building Guide
By Steve Duval in Featured
List building is an important part of Internet marketing; however, many new marketers overlook this crucial step. Some simply do not understand how to go about it, while others doubt its importance altogether. Just ask any successful Internet marketer, and you will quickly learn how important an opt-in list is.
Sometimes, beginning Internet marketers confuse list building with collecting email addresses. The two are worlds apart. Anyone can collect email addresses and send out numerous emails, the bulk of which will be deleted or lost in the spam folder. However, when you build a list of prospects to which to send emails, you are building a list of prospects who are already interested in what you are selling.
This is why it is called list building. You are not simply collecting or gathering email addresses, but you are building a list of targeted prospects, which takes time. In order to get individuals to take the time to give you their email address so that you can send them marketing emails, you will probably have to give them something in return. In fact, this is one of the easiest ways to get people to consent to receiving marketing emails.
Many Internet marketers give away a free ecourse, ebook, or something along those lines as part of their list building techniques. Look at it this way; if they are on your website, they are most likely interested in the niche in which you are marketing. Give them something for free in exchange for their name and email address, and you will add a contact that is truly interested in what you are selling.
List building is about building relationships, not collecting email addresses. While you are building a list of prospects so that you can market to them through email, you must focus on building trust. You want your prospects to view you as an expert in your field, someone in whom they can believe. While you may send numerous emails without making a sale, build relationships while you are building your list and the sales will follow.
List building is something you may have to work on from time to time. Even when you have a large list, customers will come and go and so you never want to be unconcerned about building a list. Once you have a list of prospects to market to, you want to ensure that your emails will actually be opened and read. This is where the subject line comes in. Regardless of how powerful your message is, unread messages lose all of their power the moment the recipient pushes the delete button. Therefore, you must ensure that your email subject lines convince prospects to open and read your email.
If you are new at this, it may take some time and effort to write convincing subject lines. You can learn a lot just by browsing your own email inbox. Which subject lines convince you to click on the message, and which ones do you delete? Start noticing other subject lines, and use what you learn in your list building techniques.

Why List Building Is Still Your Most Important Marketing Tool
By Titus Hoskins in Featured
In this age of Facebook and Twitter, many people sometimes forget your most important marketing tool is still list building. Actually, in these days of instant messages, viral videos, fan pages and Twitter tweets; the importance of building a list has increased, rather than decreased. Having a list of contacts which you can communicate with at a moment’s notice is still a very effective marketing tool.
One which online marketers have used to their advantage for years to further their interests, especially in the online arena. In the not so distant past, it was simply a matter of throwing up a subscription form on your site and contacting these subscribers with a weekly or daily newsletter. Not any more, list building has become much more complex, especially with regards to social bookmarking and networking sites.
The simple subscribe box is still a vital element, but you have to take a much more multifaceted approach to your contact building. You must make it easy for visitors not only to opt-in to your list or newsletter, but you must also make it easy for them to bookmark and recommend your content to all their friends and colleagues. This social list building has to be a prominent feature of your online marketing.
No doubt you’re probably sick and tired of hearing the expression – The Money Is In The List – but this is also just as true today as it was in the past. Building a list of interested prospects and clients is still an effective way to make more sales. And using an autoresponder to do follow-up marketing will definitely increase your sales because studies have shown that many buyers will only purchase after being contacted 6 or 7 times.
These follow-ups can be more information on the major benefits of the products you’re selling or promoting. It doesn’t really have to be all hard-sell, many marketing experts say the list should be really used for pre-selling a product or service, and then letting the site or company do the actual selling. Regardless, building your list of prospective customers is a vital part of your marketing funnel and should not be ignored.
For the online marketer and/or webmaster this means making your site and webpages more ‘social media friendly’ and providing a simple way for your visitors to bookmark your site. Including a bookmark tool like the Addthis button is a given, so too is adding a Twitter Addme button. Plus, visitors should be able to easily become a member of your blog and subscribe to your RSS feed.
In addition, visitors should be encouraged to add you as a Facebook friend simply because Facebook is quickly becoming the most dominant site on the web. You should also start building your list of contacts in such places as LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, Yahoo Groups, Google Groups… and similar sites.
Marketers should go one step further and seek out specific sites related to their product or theme. You must seek out related communities and join them. For example, if you’re into web marketing and SEO, then you would seek out and/or become a part of sites like SiteProNews, WebProNews, Site-Reference… and become involved in online marketing forums to help build your list of contacts. In many cases, these sites will also let you contribute unique content which can be used to build your list.
Don’t forget the viral element which can be extremely effective in building your list on today’s web. A popular video which goes viral can be a great way to attract visitors and subscribers to your list and all the social bookmarking sites mentioned above. Getting a first page link to a popular post or article on sites such as Digg can be a great way to get visitors and subscribers. Using viral ebooks and PDF Reports is another effective way to draw visitors and subscribers back to your site and onto your list.
Perhaps, what is truly called for, is a change in attitude when it comes to building your list on this new more socially empowered web. The simple old subscriber box just won’t cut it anymore. You must take your list building to a much more involved level, one that is closely connected to all the social communities and sites on the web. In other words, you have to become more pro-active and actually seek out your future subscribers and friends. Go get ‘em!

5 Ways to Grow Your List
By Derek J in Featured
The quality and quantity of your opt-in email list will greatly affect the level of success you, as an internet marketer enjoy. Whilst beginners complain that they can’t get enough people to subscribe to their list, professionals are always looking for ways to refine their lists and improve quality by cutting down on quantity. Whichever approach you take, the bottom line is that you still need to constantly grow and cultivate your list – here are five ways to start building your list today.
Make Your Opt-In Form Highly Visible
Many internet marketers only place their email opt-in form on their homepage, assuming that this is the most popular page on the site. This is a mistake for two reasons – firstly, not everyone will arrive on your website’s home page (they may land on a splash page or a content page) – secondly, only having your opt-in on the home page simply limits its visibility. For these reasons, you should aim to have your opt-in available and highly visible on every page (or at least the majority of pages) of your website.
Provide Something of Value
Too many times, we see different websites offering the same cheesy, low value PLR (Public Label Rights) eBook in return for an opt-in. Whilst you may want to use a PLR product as a base to work from, and perhaps to gain ideas, you really should try creating a freebie that is both unique and that resonates with your site as a whole. By this, I mean, at least ensure that the colour scheme and graphics match up with that of your website. Most importantly though is that you provide something unique and of value. Taking a weekend off to put your own eBook together will pay huge dividends down the line. If you’re not a great writer, hire a ghost writer and provide them with the raw information.
Create Referral Incentives
Create an additional product (eBook, audio recording, etc) that your current subscribers can receive in return for referring three or five friends to your site (or opt-in page). You may want to display this offer upon initial signup (as a sort of up-sell), or promote it in your auto responder series. Either way, make sure its appealing, useful and of high quality. Getting this trick right can equate to a ratio of about 1:1, which means that for every signup, you are assured of another signup free.
Create a Contact Us Add-on
This tactic is particularly powerful, but needs to be implemented ethically. On your contact us form, create a checkbox that reads “Also sign me up for your newsletter” or something similar. What’s important is that you ensure that this checkbox is not checked by default, as that is unethical and will ultimately just lead to a lot of unsubscribes.
Hold a Competition
This is possibly the oldest trick in the direct marketer’s book, but is nonetheless still incredibly effective. Hold a competition with a decent prize (possibly one of your products or services), and allow people to enter by opting in to your competition list. Provided that you market the competition well (and offer a desirable prize), you should receive quite a few opt-ins. When implementing this tactic, consider the average value per lead, and then work out a marketing budget for the competition using that figure.
More than anything else, growing your opt-in list is a long term process. Commit to the process, continually research new ways to grow the list, and have a little patience – All of these traits will pay off in the long term.

Tips For Launching A Successful Email Marketing Campaign
By David Godot in Featured
If you’ve ever considered launching an email marketing campaign, you probably very rapidly discovered that there are two main road-blocks between you and email marketing success. The first is the question of how to get your hands on an email subscriber list. And the second is once you have begun building your list, what should you send them? This article will focus on those two fundamental tasks of email marketing.
List-building is not as hard as you might imagine. All it really takes is the effort of asking people you are already coming into contact with to join your mailing list. You can do this in person if you run a restaurant, dealership, or other brick and mortar venue. At a retail store, the cash register is the best place to offer a free membership. If you are trying to convert your existing web traffic into email subscribers, you will want to create an attractive sign-up form and place it very prominently on your web site. You will also need to provide a good explanation of the value that people can expect to receive by being subscribes to your mailing list.
We all know that high quality content is not cheap. And when you’re dealing in email marketing, that is likely to be the primary expense related to your campaign. So you want to make that investment worthwhile by getting as many potential buyers as possible signed up for your mailing list. Take advantage of your existing web traffic by making your subscription form a central feature of your web site. It should almost always appear above the fold, and almost always on every page of your site. Keep in mind, email list subscribers convert much better than one-time web site visitors, so you should not be afraid to lose a sale or two in the short term in order to collect a large number of subscriptions that will become valued clients over the long term.
When you think about designing content for your email list, there is a very important question you should ask yourself: What will people in my target market be happy to receive? What value can I provide to them? Because the first task of an email list is to ingratiate you to your subscribers. If the list is ultimately going to convert into sales, then your subscribers must trust you and see you as someone who provides things that they value. Once you have developed the unique proposition for your mailing list, then you can begin developing content to fulfill that promise.
These two basic steps are all it really takes to build an effective list that you can continue to improve upon indefinitely. The list and the techniques that you use to market to the list will evolve over time along with your overall business strategy. But the long and the short of it is simply this: create a mailing list that offers a real value to your market, and then ask people to sign up for it. Everything else simply improves on this basic, winning formula.

List Building In The Age Of Twitter
By Titus Hoskins in Featured
Andy Warhol got it wrong, he meant to say 15 seconds instead of 15 minutes! That lower number seems much more appropriate in the fast moving world of Twitter, the souped up mass online messaging tool that never quits or takes a breather. But how effective is Twitter as a list building tool?
Recently, one well-known Internet Marketer deleted his Twitter account which had over 25,000 followers, saying his messages or tweets were no longer being read and the response rate was next to nil. While this seems a little drastic, for SEO reasons alone it would be very foolish to delete a Twitter account with that many subscribers.
However, does this marketer have a point? Do your tweets get read or are they lost in the endless flood of other tweets quickly passing through the system. There is probably a lot of unread tweets flowing in our cyberage wasteland and the effectiveness of tweeting has diminished drastically as countless marketers plaster this latest medium with their marketing sales pitches.
So is Twitter an effective list building tool or not? Yes and no, it would all depend on how you approach the situation.
Twitter is a quick and effective way of building a large list of contacts which you can send messages to in a spam-free way. Lists with millions of followers is not unknown – thank Ashton Kutcher. Even for the online marketer and webmaster, Twitter can be an effective way to build a list of contacts very quickly.
However, the real issue remains, are your messages or tweets being read? Sadly, in many cases, because of the transitory nature and the sheer volume of tweets – your messages are probably not getting read or are not seen by as many people as you would like to see them. Therefore, one could argue about the effectiveness of Twitter as a list building tool; what’s the point if your messages are not making contact with your followers?
The key to success here is the same as with any list – you have to build a loyal group of followers who are eager to read your messages. It’s the relationship, stupid.
Besides, many people forget that Twitter is also one of the most popular web sites on the net, so having your messages and more importantly your links on this popular site is a “must-do” for webmasters and marketers. For SEO reasons alone, Twitter is extremely important. Your links are indexed by the search engines, especially if your Twitter profile is seen as an Authority Account with lots of influence.
With this fact in mind, here are some simple Twitter list building tips:
- Make sure you build an attractive Twitter Profile targeted to your audience.
- Place links to your Twitter Profile from all web sites and other social media sites/accounts.
- One effective way is to use a Twitter bookmark on all your relevant content and pages.
- Attach a link to your profile in all forum posts and email signatures.
- Use your Twitter account as your main tool for contact with tech/customer support.
- Add your Twitter Profile to your marketing articles and blog posts.
- Offer free ebooks, courses and special reports to anyone who re-tweets your messages.
- Become active within Twitter, link to other related Twitter profiles and build a strong presence.
Having said all that, I haven’t used Twitter much, except for SEO link building purposes. I find most messages or tweets do get lost in the constant flow of tweets. If a tweet falls in cyberspace, and no one reads it, is it really a tweet?
Then again, as an online affiliate marketer I have found other list building methods much more effective than sending a tweet. At the moment, one of my most effective list building techniques is at the opposite end of the spectrum, one that’s totally anonymous and invisible. If you’re into affiliate marketing you’re probably already using this technique; simply promote or pick affiliate products/program which have a cookie attached to them, when someone clicks your link they are “cookied” with your affiliate ID. I like picking affiliate programs which have at least a 90 day cookie, you can quickly build up an invisible list of prospective customers and if they buy within 90 days, you are credited with the commission.
Of course, one could always combine this affiliate list building method with your Twitter account/followers, which would be extremely effective if anyone ever bothered to read your tweets and click your links. Now if everyone could just spare 15 seconds, you have a very slim possibility of becoming both rich as well as famous.

List Building – Is It Still Relevant On Today’s Web?
By Titus Hoskins in Featured
Years ago, when I first started in online marketing, all the rage was something called “list building”. I immediately jumped on this subject and started gathering every list building technique one could possibly imagine. It very quickly became one of my most favorite areas of Internet marketing to explore; so much so, that when I reached my first goal of getting 1000 subscribers, I was so pleased with myself, I even wrote an ebook on list building.
But that was then, this is now.
Since that time, online marketing and even the web itself, has changed tremendously.
