Beef Up Your Internet Marketing and Your Body At The Same Time!
By Miki DeHaven in Featured
In today’s health-conscious society, everyone has spent at least a couple minutes of their life thinking about (or purposely ignoring) their diet. Is this meal healthy? How many calories are in this? Does this bacon-wrapped butterball make my butt look fat? The theory and principles behind improving your health and getting better results can also be attributed to what you do or do not contribute to the health and welfare of your website’s SEO. Here are a few suggestions on how you can lose weight and improve your rankings at the same time.
1. Have A Measurable Goal
It may seem feasible to stare longingly at the slim thighs of fashion models and think that you can get there someday (if only you could keep your fingers out of that mayonnaise jar), but think about steps that are measurable and achievable. In that same vein, you may see a website that ranks amazingly well for single-word keywords, but if you don’t set yourself up for success with a committed strategy and follow through, you will spend months wondering why your efforts are not providing results. Those svelte upper-leg-areas don’t come easy, but by tracking your progress, you will see what is working, and why that mochachino addiction definitely isn’t.
2. Results Don’t Happen Overnight
Last night at dinner you gave up carbs entirely, but why isn’t that belly fat dissipating this morning when you went to button up your pants? That is because, like anything worth having, weight loss and kick-ass rankings do not happen right away. Best intentions aside, it takes hard work and patience to get where you want to be. Keep plugging away. Gradually you will see that all the tedious link building, onsite optimizations and Zumba at the YMCA are really paying off, both in results and attitude.
3. Find Credible Information
The skeletal lady behind the counter at the teashop may be an expert in all things “holistic” but she is probably not the best person to make judgment calls on healthy ways to lose weight. In that same fashion, you may not want to take the marketing advice of every Tom, Dick, and Harry that sends you emails about your meta descriptions. Popular SEO blogs tend to be a reflection of someone who knows what they are talking about, and has the support of other experts in the field. Check out multiple, highly regarded internet marketing blogs (ahem, like Web Talent Marketing, for example), and take the advice of industry leaders. If there is a consensus among the group, it usually becomes a best practice. Just like in weight loss, you’ll need to find a credible trainer who has the experience necessary to help you. It may seem like a great idea to use chili powder to cleanse your colon, but in the end it’s just a pain in the butt.
4. Commit To A Process
The guy that hosts the P90X+ videos is ripped, and when you use the program it probably garners amazing results. But is that a plan you can dedicate the time and up-chuck reflexes to on a daily and weekly basis? You may have 30 minutes a day P90X+ dreams, but your reality is probably closer to weekly Jazzercise on your VHS player. Whatever your process is, own it and commit to it. Don’t start and stop and then commiserate with your girlfriend’s low-fat yogurt about how its just not working for you and maybe you should just buy a pair of Spanx and forget about it. If you care enough about your website to complain, you should care enough to commit to a plan and follow through for the entire campaign. They say that weight loss is a lifestyle change so is effective online marketing. Commit, Commit, Commit!
5. Change It Up (When Needed)
Congratulations! You have found a plan that you aren’t mortified to tell people you use, and you have been consistently using it. You like your plan, but after a while you may not see the dramatic changes you have come to expect. Your website and your body may both be adjusting and adapting to the plan you gave yourself and a refresher course may be necessary to keep the spark and progress alive. Maybe you need to take a break from submitting to directories or guest blogging and spend some time creating assets or going after juicy links found in your competitor’s link profile. Is it time to take a look at your site and make a list of improvements to increase usability? Change up what you are doing to keep the motivation and success flowing. When you hit the plateau and the results drop off reinvent your process and keep up the momentum.
6. The More You Put Into It, The More You Get Out Of It
Your success is only as good as the effort that you put into it. If you are only barely making the minimum effort, you are going to get minimum, or perhaps no results. Swapping out meta tags and building a few low quality links are not going to get you where you need to be. This is the equivalent of only dieting on the weekends. If you are committed to a plan, make sure you are giving it your all to see the changes in your rankings (and muffin top) you would like.
7. Aggressive Tactics Can Be Hazardous
I don’t have to tell you that binging and purging is a dangerous habit to get into, so why would you do the same for your website? Don’t binge on easy SEO fixes like automated submissions or other gray (or lets face it, black) hat tactics just to get your rankings up quickly. The results may be quick, but you will just as quickly fall into disrepair when your website gets dinged by the search engines. Or, you know, the lining of your esophagus deteriorates into rice paper.
8. Ignore Tempting Quick Fixes
You may be in awe of the waist-to-rump ratio of the Kardashian sisters, but buying their diet pills will only result in a mild heart murmur and a deep hole in your bank account. You may feel energized for a short period of time, but after a little bit you will be back to normal and you may as well roll those twenty dollar bills into little balls and swallow them whole. The same theory applies to the sneaky tricks, excessive paid linking tactics and black hat schemes available online. You may see a push in the beginning, but in the end it is never worth the time or money.
9. Keep a Balance
Effective SEO takes a balance of both diet, in the form of tried-and-true Search Engine Optimization best practices, and exercise by way of ongoing link building. Doing just one or the other will only take you so far. An effective SEO campaign should look at all aspects of SEO including conversion, usability, analytics, keyword research, competitive analysis as well as onsite SEO techniques and link building tactics. Make sure to keep a healthy balance between them and not give anyone more importance than others, they all play a role in your website’s success.
10. Do What Works For You
What works for that skinny girl next door may not always work for you. Just because she lost 2 pounds in a day doing a pilates-ballet-shakeweight combo class at her boutique gym doesn’t mean you will see those same results. Check out all your options and don’t jump on one thing and beat it like a dead horse. Genetics versus Culture is equivalent to Business Model versus the Online Economy. You may be predisposed to wear Apple-Bottom Jeans, just like your business may be less predisposed to convert into online sales than ones in other verticals. Like exercise, SEO results may vary depending you industry and some are much more competitive than others and will take time. Let us not forget that SEO only brings in qualified consumers to your site, it doesn’t convert them. You’ll need to do competitive research before starting your campaign to make sure you are setup for success.
Like weight loss, the results and benefits of ongoing healthy online dieting and web marketing work are invaluable to your business. In the long run you will add years to your average business lifespan and general well-being. You will be happier as a marketer and more secure in yourself and the services you offer. The end result? You will then pay less to your overpriced therapist to listen to you complain about your stress level. So strap on those leg warmers, tell yourself you’re a maniac on the dance floor and practice your quickstep because you have some hard work to do, but it is totally worth it!

20 Quick Tips for a More Profitable Website
By Terri Seymour in Featured
When the World Wide Web began about 20 years ago, it opened up an amazing world of opportunity for people to make their own success and realize their dreams. More people than ever were able to start their own home business. Unfortunately, about 95% of the people who start their own online business will fail. People are led to believe all they have to do is throw up a website and the money will start pouring in. This is definitely not true!
Building a website now is much easier than it was 20 years ago but you still need to know how to make your website efficient and profitable. The following quick tips will help you streamline your website and hopefully make it more productive.
1. Call-to-Action – To substantially increase your number of sales, your site will need a call to action. This is when you tell people what to do next. For example: Order Now, Supplies Limited or Click Here for Special Offer, Today Only.
2. Annoying Features – Leave out intrusive music, flashing lights, animated banners, slow-loading pages and other annoying features. These things do not say welcome!
3. Add a Blog – Blogs are extremely popular and search engine friendly so if you don’t already have a blog you definitely want to start one.
4. Site Search – Be sure to provide your visitors with a site search box. You can get one for free at Google Site Search.
5. Interactive – Make your site interactive by adding message boards, surveys, comments. This will bring your visitors back for more.
6. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) – Do some research and make your site search engine ready. Add relevant keywords, get as many backlinks as possible, add content, etc.
7. Site Map – Having a site map on your site can help you with the search engines and it will help your visitors find things on your site as well. You can make one for free with GSiteCrawler.
8. Analyze Your Traffic – Be sure to study your site stats so you can find out when you get the most visitors, where you get the most visitors, how long they are staying, what pages they are visiting the most and so on. This can help you tweak your site for maximum performance. If your host does not provide your stats you can use Google Analytics.
9. Content – Always be adding new and relevant content to your site to keep your visitors interested and the search engines as well.
10. Trust – You must build trust and credibility with your visitors. You can do this by using testimonials, posting any rewards you may have received and letting people know of important clients you have had.
11. Affiliate Programs – Adding good solid affiliate programs to your site can help raise your profits. Be sure to check out the programs before you join and if possible, personally recommend the products and/or services.
12. User-Friendly – You want your site to be easy to navigate; not like a maze for your visitors to try to find their way. Make all pages the same basic layout.
13. Collect eMail Addresses – Building an email mailing list is very crucial for keeping in contact with your visitors and building the foundation of trust. Be sure to put a sign-up form on all your webpages and put it on top for easy visibility and access.
14. Sell Advertising – Don’t overdo but selling a few choice spots on your website for advertising can raise your profitability.
15. Stress Benefits – Be sure to let people know how they can benefit from your site. Let them know how you can solve their problems with your products/services.
16. Contact Info – ALWAYS have your contact info on every page of your site. If people don’t even know your name, there surely are not going to trust you.
17. Fresh and New – Always be adding new and updated content to your site. Keep up on SEO and always be tweaking your site for more ranking. Do not let your site get old and stale!
18. Professional Design – Your site should be clean, sharp and easy to read. Do not clutter it with junk. Make it look professional!
19. Color – The color of your website can be very important. Certain colors can trigger psychological responses and you want to be sure your site triggers the right one.
20. Social Networking – Be sure to add all your social links so people can connect with you on multiple levels. Social networking can do wonders for your website if used properly.
Developing a profitable website takes time, research and work but it certainly can be done. Don’t give up too easily. Put in the work and be committed. You CAN be a success!

13 Thought Provoking Business Articles That Will Alter Your Thinking – A SPN Exclusive Article
By David Jackson in Featured
I enjoy reading articles. And over the years, I would estimate, I’ve read thousands and thousands of articles. And even though I’ve also read my share of books… generally, because I’m so busy, I prefer quick-reads – and articles meet that criteria perfectly. I also enjoy writing articles. It gives me great pleasure to create information that has the potential to help thousands of people. And just like my articles have the potential to help people, many of the articles I’ve read have had an impact on my success.
Following are select excerpts from 13 Thought-Provoking Business Articles That Will Alter Your Thinking:
1. Procrastination
“What is YOUR biggest wish, YOUR lifelong dream … and what’s keeping you from going after it? Are you waiting for “everything in your life to be right?” Waiting to have “all your ducks in a row?” It’ll never happen. You’re never going to “have it all together.” That’s like trying to eat once and for all.
Follow Robert J. Ringer’s advice; “Action today! Develop the habit of living in the present. The best day really is today, so get started now, no matter what your problems are and no matter how long you’ve already procrastinated.”
Here’s the best recipe I know for getting rid of procrastination. It’s two words: DON’T WAIT!” – Don’t Do What The Pizza Man Did by Daniel G. St-Jean
Don’t Give Up on Your SEO in 2012! – A SPN Exclusive Article
By Nick Stamoulis in Featured
Many site owners get discouraged with their SEO campaigns very quickly. Either they are expecting miraculous results inside of three months or they seem to focus on what their site isn’t doing as opposed to how it is improving. These attitudes are the quickest way to kill your SEO campaign and hurt your online presence in 2012.
Here are four things to keep in mind as you outline your 2012 SEO campaign:
Everyone Knows “Just Enough” SEO to be Competitive
For small businesses looking to optimize their own websites, there is a veritable treasure trove of free tips, tricks, guidelines, opinions, etc. available at the click of a mouse. Mid-sized companies (with the budget) can cherry pick from hundreds of SEO consultants/experts/gurus to come in and train their marketing staff, or just outsource their SEO campaigns entirely. Building an SEO campaign isn’t like advertising in the Super Bowl, something that only the biggest brands can afford to do – everyone has access to all the information they need to create a successful SEO campaign, which means that everyone knows just enough to make it that much harder for your website to stand out.
There are billions of websites, with more being created every day. We share billions upon billions of pieces of content each day, which means there is a lot of noise for your site to contend with. The search algorithm isn’t perfect (even though the search engines are constantly seeking to improve it) and there is no “magic formula” sites can follow to guarantee their success. A little SEO goes a long way, which is why it’s important that you always try to keep your SEO campaign going strong.
Strive to be Better, Not Just a Copy
If it always seems like you are two steps behind the competition, take a good look at your campaign and be honest with yourself. Did you create this campaign based on your unique needs, wants and goals as a company? Are you leveraging your online assets to their fullest? Are you determined to find new link opportunities and opportunities for online growth? It’s very tempting to look at a successful competitor and assume that if you just do what they are doing, soon you’ll be as successful as they are. Well, you know what they say about assuming… If you want to topple your top competitors, how are you going to do that if you just focus your SEO on repeating what they have done? Following in their footsteps pretty much guarantees you’ll always be two steps behind.
Also, just because certain SEO tactics are producing good results for your competition, that doesn’t automatically mean it will do the same for you. You might inadvertently hurt your SEO and online brand by copying the competition.
You Can’t Win the SEO Race if You Don’t Try
It’s easy to get discouraged and feel like your SEO campaign isn’t taking your brand anywhere, but that doesn’t mean progress isn’t happening! Depending on the industry you operate in (such as travel, auto or legal), the competition might be extra fierce. Your SEO might be at the tipping point of producing really great results, so don’t stop now! You can never know for sure exactly what the competition is doing, so don’t assume you’re miles behind. You might be gaining on them faster than you think and pulling the plug now will just unravel all your hard work done in 2011.
Don’t Focus Too Much on the Competition
If your top competitors are engaged in implementing and executing a strong, focused, white hat link building campaign then they have earned their success! But that doesn’t mean that you can’t carve out a competitive niche for your own brand and develop your own successful SEO campaign. Constantly comparing your online success to that of your competition can be very disheartening after a while, and it makes it that much easier to set your campaign up for failure. Think of it this way -let’s say you just started running and are working your way down from a 10 minute mile to a 7 minute mile. If you measure your progress against your neighbor who runs marathons for fun, you are only going to see yourself as a failure. The same concept holds true for SEO. Don’t create benchmarks based on what the
competition is doing (They get 10,000 visitors a month, so we need to get 10,000 too!), base them on what your own site is doing and how it is improving (growing from 1,500 visitors to 1,750 this month).
With 2012 just around the corner, now is the perfect time to outline your SEO strategy for the coming year. Just remember these four things and you’ll have a much more pleasant SEO experience.

When it comes to marketing blogs, we all know what the “authority” blogs are, right? After all, they’re hugely popular and many of us follow those blogs faithfully. Blogs like ProBlogger, DailyBlogTips, SearchEngineJournal, ShoeMoney, CopyBlogger, just to name a few. You know, the usual suspects.
But there are many other outstanding marketing blogs flying under the radar, whose marketing content is just as impressive, but perhaps not quite as well known to the average online marketer. I call these “the unusual suspects.” And since they may not be quite as well known, chances are, you probably aren’t familiar with them.

Will Google+ Become The Ultimate Web Marketing Tool?
By Titus Hoskins in Featured
Recently, Google+ further opened up its platform to now accept “Brand” or “Company” based accounts or profiles. This means that business and site owners can now promote and brand their companies within Google+. This might seem like a small change, but one only has to look at the tremendous success of Facebook’s Fan pages, to see why this move is very important for companies and site owners.
While Google Plus doesn’t have anywhere near the numbers Facebook has, it does hold one major trump card in its hand, that being the Google brand itself. Not only does Google bring its well respected reputation to the table, but you can’t dismiss all those countless free programs and services which Google now offers to an ever admiring audience. Associating your own business or company with a brand like Google does score you some brownie points, not to mention the whole issue of trust. On the web, building instant trust with your potential customers is vital for your overall success and building a large community via Google+ will definitely help in this regard.
Besides its stellar reputation, Google brings much more to the table than Facebook, especially when it comes to marketing on the Internet. As you have probably already noticed, Google does run a little search engine that controls much of the world’s lucrative search traffic. And you can bet your last dollar, Google will be keeping track of the number of followers a Google+ brand receives and how vibrant that community becomes when voting or clicking those +1 buttons for your content. All of this will no doubt have a significant effect on your SEO and rankings within Google.
Google+ also presents an attractive and inexpensive way to build buzz and momentum towards any product or company. Especially when it comes to SEO and getting your brand out there on the web and in front of the marketplace. However, it is the SEO aspect of Google+ that could make it a very useful marketing tool, especially for those businesses just starting out and/or that have small marketing budgets. Google+ can help build your brand’s visibility both in the SERPs and in the real world.
In addition, any marketer will also have to consider the advantage of buying ads on Google+ which can be displayed all over the web. These social ads have already been very successful for Twitter and Facebook, but just imagine the extra marketing power Google can bring to these types of ads. One only has to look at Google’s Adwords program to realize this could be another major advertising venue for
Google and another way for companies to fully expand their advertising dollars.
One of the main reasons Adwords has become so effective – it closely targets your marketing to exactly match what buyers are looking for at the exact time they’re ready to buy. Now with Google+ any business has the potential of reaching a very specific targeted group of potential clients via the circles and hangouts features in the Google+ social network. It is this targeted marketing that could possibly make Google+ the ultimate web marketing tool. Only time will tell how effective Google+ becomes, but all signs are pointing in the right direction.

Most of the time when I write an article, I share my own personal marketing experiences, viewpoints and opinions – my OWN marketing tips as it were. Today, I’m going to change things up a little and share with you some of the best marketing tips of other successful marketers.
I compiled these remarkable marketing gems from the thousands and thousands of quality blog posts, articles, newsletters and interviews I’ve had the pleasure of reading over the years. The hard part was narrowing my list down to only 20. I could easily have listed 100. Oh well, perhaps I’ll write a sequel or two or three… Enjoy!
- Tim Berry, Planning Startups Stories – “One of the most expensive myths in marketing is that lower price produces higher volume. That might be true for coal or gasoline, but not for most businesses. Lower price means, well, ask yourself: do you always eat at the lowest price restaurant? Buy the lowest price clothes? Do you drive the lowest priced car? Pricing is your best statement of value.”
- Drew McClellan, Drew’s Marketing Minute – “Do Less. One of the most tempting aspects of marketing is the veritable smorgasbord of different marketing tactics that you can toss into a marketing plan. It’s almost overwhelming.
Many marketing professionals make the very understandable mistake of believing that more is better. But they’re wrong.
New Rules for E-commerce – A SPN Exclusive Article Part 3
By Victor Arcuri in Featured
When the Internet was conceived, it was developed as an ‘information highway.’ It has evolved into an e-commerce solution that is a mandatory component for every business. However, the Rules of E-commerce have changed.
In this article we introduce the new rules and how they impact shopping cart developers.
• In Part 1, we discussed how the new rules impact consumers.
• In Part 2 we discussed how the new rules impact online merchants.
• In Part 4 we will discuss how the new rules impact smart phone application developers.
• In Part 5 we will discuss how the new rules impact smart phone application developers.
• In Part 6 we will discuss how the new rules impact smart phone banking applications.
How the PPOS Operates
The new PPOS is not a storage device, but rather a payment application. None of the data entered on the application is saved or stored within the application. All saved and stored data resides in a cloud computing service, which is usually owned and operated by the bank or the company that issued the credit cards.
Consumers concerned about identity theft need to know that the new digital wallets equipped with a PPOS are guaranteed to protect your identity. The safest place to store your credit card details is with the bank or institution that issues your credit card. The second safest place to store your profile and card data is in one of the cloud computing services designed specifically for that purpose. After all, they already have this information.
When the PPOS is initially launched, you are presented with data collection forms to create your profile and enter your card details. The submit function uploads the profile to the gateway server that encrypts the data, returns an unlock key, and then stores the encrypted file with the appropriate cloud. The returned unlock key is stored within the PPOS, along with a description of the card, but not the card details. For example, the stored description might read Capital One MC Platinum.
Shopping Cart Developers
The introduction of this new technology means that shopping cart developers will need to revise their applications. The new model of shopping carts provides merchants with an enhanced level of security. We have developed a complete set of API’s to satisfy all vendors. In summary, here is an overview of how the PPOS processes online purchases.
When the consumer selects the CQRpay button:
1. The shopping cart software generates and uploads to the processing gateway a file containing the merchant identification as well as the invoice details.
2. The shopping cart software receives confirmation from the gateway that the transaction was received, displays a transaction number, and then closes the invoice.
At this point the merchant has an open unpaid invoice with no knowledge of the consumer’s identity.
3. The consumer then opens the PPOS and retrieves the transaction number.
4. The PPOS displays the identity of the merchant, the invoice number and the invoice details as well as a number of payment options.
5. The consumer selects the payment option and processes the payment.
Once the transaction is processed:
6. The PPOS will display the authorization number and save a record of the transaction.
7. The gateway then sends the authorization to the merchant to complete the transaction.
8. The merchant then sends an e-mail confirmation to the consumer.
The same file, passed to the transaction processor, can also be read by smartphone applications specific to the needs of the merchant. The invoice file passed to the consumer at the time of purchase can include a variety of additional information, including the ability to alert the consumer of up coming events, specials, coupon offers, etc.
If you would like a copy of the developer’s API for shopping carts, click Cart Developers.
Other Requirements
As the PPOS gains acceptance, there will be a heavy demand from merchants for specific smartphone applications, which will allow merchants more detailed communication with the consumer. Interactive smartphone applications will become the norm.
The same file can then be tied to smartphone applications specific to the needs of the merchant. We believe the shopping cart suppliers will be the ideal developers of these new applications, and as such we have a separate API that may be built into these new applications.
Income Opportunities
Once we launch our PPOS application, shopping cart developers who install our API will have about a one year window of exclusivity before their competitors launch a competitive product.
Summary
The digital wallet will protect the cardholder’s identity and will provide a new and convenient way to make purchases, both online and on multiple hardware platforms.
The PPOS digital wallet will be a welcome solution for merchants who wish to save costs on card-not-present sales, chargebacks and fraud attempts. With its ease of implementation for merchants and the inherent acceptance by consumers, merchants will benefit by using CQRPay.
The CQRPay PPOS digital wallet will become the distinct leader and will set the standard in digital wallet technology by meeting the security needs of cardholders, merchants, and card issuers.

Google+ Is Serious About Business and Their Tools Show It
By Edwin S Huertas in Featured
The Analytics tools for Google+ have many excited about the new Google+ Business Pages.
Businesses know that when it comes to BI and decision making, data is king. Google has had years of experience building and honing its data gathering, analysis and reporting tools within the business framework, and it leverages this competitive advantage by integrating its leadership in search and API development to offer an easy and reliable way for businesses to measure the success of their online initiatives. This is a notable strength of the new social network’s business page features, because the Analytics component has been conceptualized and built from the very beginning. In stark contrast, Analytics and business intelligence seem to have been an afterthought for competing networks.
Search
It always makes sense for businesses to build on and extend their core competencies. Google is the dominant search engine in the online world so it’s no surprise that it brings its search expertise to the social networking table. Google+ Search focuses on allowing users to search through Google+ content, returning information from profiles, member posts and shared content from the Sparks engine.
You can narrow your search down to a specific area and -yes-it’s a great feature, but I’d be willing to bet that Google is tracking your search activities to subsequently provide data and insights that can help you (and others) analyze social business behavior.
Ripples
The new feature launched by Google+ was hardly noticed at first, but those who have used Ripples are astounded by the amount of data the feature can provide to users. The main interface is an interactive info-graphic that summarizes the ripple effect caused by content you produce, visually presenting who among your contacts has been sharing your content with their own circles.
This is an easy way for you to find out and track the “influencers” within your Circles, allowing you to focus on these people for future marketing campaigns and activities.
Social Analytics
How serious is Google about its social analytics? Its recent addition of real time data to Google Analytics and its acquisition last month of social analytics startup SocialGrapple seem to indicate that they are very serious indeed. Users can check out the new social engagement report on Google Analytics and monitor the behavior of users on their Google+ business pages.
Google’s strategy for social analytics also seems to indicate that the company is trying to eliminate the distinctions that currently set “search” users, traditionally identified as Google’s user base, apart from “social” users that are claimed by social networks such as Facebook. Google is instead aiming for a single massive-user population that reaches sites from a variety of sources using a variety of discovery tools.
Google seems to be making a strong push to attract business owners and if they continue to offer tools like these, you might see a shift in population among the top social media networks one day. This is a prize audience that Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are all vying for, and I’m pretty sure those guys are watching very, very closely. I can see them responding to many of the tools that Google creates in the near future.
API
Perhaps the most powerful feature within the Google+ Analytics framework is the newly available API, which currently allows users to readily access public and Hangouts data. Developers can create tools and objects that work with these data sources to provide dynamic interaction opportunities with end-users. 10 Surefire Marketing Tips That Will Improve Your Website Conversions
By David Jackson in Featured
Like millions of other people, I’m a huge NFL football fan (go Giants), and the one thing I’ve learned over the years is that on any given Sunday, the worst team in the league can beat the best team in the league. It happens all the time. Why? Because in sports, just like in business, there’s a very thin line between success and failure – winning and losing.
And the team that executes their game plan the best and makes the fewest mistakes will invariably win the game. That’s not a theory – statistics bear that out. In sports, mistakes are the wild card – the great equalizer. You can have the greatest team and game plan in the world, but if you make mistakes and don’t execute your game plan, it will be all for naught. You will lose. Mistakes prevent you from performing up to your potential and winning the game.
The same logic applies to business as well. Regardless of the competition, the businesses that execute their game plan the best and make the fewest mistakes will invariably come out on top. That’s why you constantly see small businesses outperform larger, more powerful companies with greater resources. It’s all about having a solid game plan and executing it.
