Blogs-&-PodcastsIf you have an online income business and are keen to get more targeted traffic to your website then don’t miss out on one of the best methods out there for achieving this objective. If you are not blogging then you this is something that you really need to be doing to get visitors to your website.

There is, however, more to think about than just setting up a blog and making regular posts to it. To really be successful it is important to also use social networking sites to make people aware of your blog posts.

By Tracey Lawton in Featured

Social networking sites originally became popular as a way for friends to stay in touch with one another and to keep up-to-date with what was happening in their lives, but they quickly became a place for business owners to grow their networks too. These days you can use these sites as a business building tool, but, more importantly, you can get to know your prospects, clients, and colleagues in a more relaxed and friendly environment.

This means that if you’re active on these sites and regularly contributing and seeking out new connections you can very quickly build your network and have a ready audience of contacts who are interested in what you have to say, your services, programs, and products.

However, I hear of many solopreneurs saying that they’re spending hours of time on their social networking activities, whether that’s on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, or one of the other popular social networking sites, but are not seeing any benefits as a result of their time i.e. the amount of time they put into social networking is not comparable to the returns they are seeing. And so they lose interest and wonder what all the fuss is about.

As with any of the list building strategies that I teach, the real key to success is consistency. If you decide that social networking is one of the lead generation strategies that you want to implement then you need to be consistent in your approach to make it successful. You need to be spending time each week (several times a week) visiting each of your social networks, contributing, and building relationships.

Even though there are many, many advantages to this latest marketing strategy, there are several pitfalls that can easily be avoided if you’re aware of what they are.

Today I’d like to share with you my top four social networking pitfalls so that you can avoid making these mistakes and so utilize this strategy to grow your network:

  1. 1. Not updating regularly. If you’re a beginner in this area, then you may believe that all you have to do is sign up for an account at one of the more popular sites, add your details, and you’re all set. In order for this strategy to be effective, you need to be a regular contributor to the network, actively seek out new connections, and participate and post regularly.
  2. 2. Your profile is lacking in information. Add pictures; make yourself sound interesting and fun! People want to know about you, what your interests are, and see you. Always include a photo, and, the beauty with social networking is that because it’s informal, you don’t always need your photo to be a professional head shot – a more informal photo works just as well; let your contacts see the ‘real’ you.
  3. 3. Not thinking relationships first! Social networking is all about building relationships with those people in your network – it’s not about getting new clients. Although you’ve probably heard of colleagues getting new clients via social networking, it really is about creating and building relationships with those people in your network. Remember… relationships first!
  4. 4. It’s not about sell, sell, sell! If all you’re doing when you visit the various sites and post your updates is pitch your latest program, product or service then it’s no wonder you’re not seeing results. Share information with your network, whether that’s your own information or you’re passing along information from clients and colleagues. The more you share, the greater your results will be.

Whichever social networking arena you’re active in (and it may be more than one) remember the “social” in social networking – it’s to build relationships, make new contacts, and socialize. Inform your network, not sell to them.

If you have to learn how to make money then you should try tweeting on Tweeter. It is a simple way to promote your site, but one of which most have little knowledge. Twitter is not a new phenomenon on the internet, because it was created by Jack Dorsey as long ago as 2006. Don’t laugh – 2006 is a long time ago in internet terms, and Twitter has grown a great deal since it was conceived by Jack as a means of small groups communicating by using short SMS messages.

Messaging services are now commonplace, but Twitter has developed into a world-wide phenomenon. I am not here to discuss Twitter’s past, but how you can use it in the future: not only to communicate with people, but to make money and turn it into a marketing tool more effective than any that have gone before.

I fully understand how Google works (as well as anybody who is not employed by Google can), and Twitter is Google bait! This will only last for a short time, and even if you only have a blog that you want to promote you must learn how to use Twitter to promote it. If you have a Squidoo lens, just the same: Twitter can be use to give you visitors.

So how is that? The question you have to answer yourself when you tweet on Twitter is who will see it? A tweet is not a web page, and is not listed on a search engine. It isn’t an email, or any other direct means of communication. The only people that will come across those short messages you send are those that are ‘following’ you. To do that, they must deliberately click a link so that they do so. Why should they?

Many newbies to Twitter make their tweets and they go nowhere because they don’t have any followers. Imagine if you could choose your own followers. I am not saying that Britney would follow you because if you check out Britney’s link you will see no tweets except hers and her manager’s and agent’s. She uses Twitter as an advertising medium, and follows nobody.

You can use Twitter that way too, and can advertise products and web pages but refuse followers – you will then make nothing. It is very important that learn how to get followers, but the followers that suit you. There are ways to achieve that, and also ways to choose the Tweeters that you want to follow. If you get it right, one or both of two things can happen:

  1. You can make a lot of friends, even if you have no desire to use Tweeter to make money.
  2. You can use Tweeter make a lot of money, even if you have no desire to make friends.

What you should be aiming for is a combination of each, and if you know how to do it, then you can, to the advantage of you and your friends on Tweeter. They need a service or have a problem to be solved, and you can provide either or both. But how do you get together?

By Tweets of course! But you have to get them following you, and while you know how to register with Tweeter and make your tweets, who is reading them? Nobody! However, let’s take just one social networking site – Facebook. As with most, you can have your tweets posted on your wall in Facebook, so that all of your friends can see them. That is just one simple way of advertising yourself totally free of charge.

Solve that problem and you will be made. You will be able to put everything you learn into practice and will be able to make money and promote your site by Tweeting on Twitter! Think of all the social networking sites out there on which you can make your tweets visible, even to non tweeters? At one time it was tag and ping – that is old hat now.

There are far better ways of getting your message publicized than that: Twitter offers it if only you can see how to do it. Enough said!

Free lead generation is a very cost effective way to promote any online business. Social networking sites are some of the best ways to generate free leads. Some of the ways I personally use them to promote my online business is by using Social networking sites and making multiple profiles on them. Then when you have your profile accounts set up you need to pimp them to make them look professional and do not try to sell your products directly on your profiles. Instead make yourself interesting and someone who arouses curiosity so when you start sending friend request people will come to your profile and take a look. This is where you can start to get them to your website because these social networking sites allow you to have links on your profiles.

The art is to make people click to your website to find out more about you and what you are all about. Also someone who has taken the trouble to read your profile is more likely to read your website and take notice what you have to say. This is how to generate free leads using social networking sites. It’s all about personal branding and attraction marketing. You can also put videos on your profile which is a great way to get your personality across .I also join forums where I will observe the conversations for some time then when the time is right and I know enough about the given subject I will join in. Because you have taken your time and got to know what is happening then your comments will be taken notice off more. The result of this is when you leave your signature at the bottom of the page with your all important link on it, people in the forum will click on it and have a look at your chosen website.

The advantage of this is that because you took your time and got to know the people in the forum they will put more credence to your website. The result of these efforts is more leads to your chosen internet business. Another great free lead generator is using the instant messages service on these social networking sites. When you have sent enough friend requests out and started some conversations with these people then you start to build a relationship up with these new found friends.

The great advantage of this is that you can send a broadcast out to all your friends telling them all about your product or business or whatever it is you are trying to be successful with. The people who receive the messages will automatically take more notice off you than they would a stranger. It is just human nature to respond more to a friend than some random email they may receive.

The final method that I use to generate more free leads is using the groups section. If you start your own group on a subject you know about then people will naturally come to your group and join you. This is very powerful because you are setting yourself up as a leader and expert so people will take a lot of notice of what you have to say. This is where you will get lots and lots of free leads for your business. So just like with the forums, people will go to your website and check out what you have got to say. All these methods will generate a abundance of free leads to your online business.
