Google Panda and Content Farms
By Writer Fox in Featured
Web content was the main buzz in the SEO world in 2011, mostly due to changes in the Google algorithm updates known as ‘Panda.’
When these changes began on February 24, 2011, many website owners woke up to find their Google search engine rankings had
nose-dived and their traffic from Google had ceased. Loss in traffic means loss in income.
Panda was originally known as the “Farmer” algorithm change because significant Google ranking changes occurred in so-called ‘content-farm’ sites. Famous URL’s such as Suite 101, eHow, DemandMedia, EzineArticles, Squidoo, HubPages, and Yahoo’s AssociatedContent were hit hard by Panda.
Google’s Panda evaluates the quality of the content found on all pages of a website. Because content farms are notorious free-for -alls which attract many amateur writers, those sites were hit the hardest.
Google engineer Amit Singhal posted this advice on the Google blog:
“One other specific piece of guidance we’ve offered is that low-quality content on some parts of a website can impact the whole site’s rankings, and thus removing low quality pages, merging or improving the content of individual shallow pages into more useful pages, or moving low quality pages to a different domain could eventually help the rankings of your higher-quality content.”
Content farms scrambled to react to their changes in search engine ranking throughout 2011, as Google made more than a dozen adjustments to Panda.
The notorious site, eHow.com, has made no recovery in Google rankings and traffic as 2012 begins. Suite101, EzineArticles and DemandMedia are still on a downward spiral since the first Panda rollout. Squidoo.com has recovered about half of the traffic it lost when Panda began.
AssociatedContent, acquired by Yahoo in mid-2010 for over $100 million, has taken the drastic measure of taking down the website and launching a revamp as Voices.Yahoo.com. The new site was launched on December 1, 2011, by uploading content from the original site, minus 75,000 pages of culled content. The URL change was made with this announcement from Yahoo: “Only content that meets our revised submission guidelines will be accepted moving forward.”
HubPages.com reacted to Panda by putting its authors on individual subdomains. This suggestion was actually recommended to the company by a Google employee. The subdomain concept puts the onus of poor quality content on the individual author. According to Alexa traffic graphs, HubPages has only recovered about a third of its pre-Panda traffic with this tactic.
Google sought to increase the quality of its search results by implementing Panda. And there are websites that have benefited from Google Panda. The mega article site Wikipedia, for instance, has experienced a marked increase in traffic.
As 2012 begins, Google Panda is still on the radar of website owners and internet marketers in the daily quest for high rankings on Google search engine results.

Squidoo – Squidoo Marketing Strategy For Increased Profits
By Riley West in Featured
As an avid user of Squidoo it became clear to me that there must be a million Squidoo lenses.
That’s what squids (Squidoo users) call a FREE domain and website at Squidoo.
Very impressive, really.
And these sites are touted as perfect for affiliate marketing, and I think they are.
Just remember to pick the right offer and keywords.
Come to think about it, it’s a little like that everywhere. After all, there IS competition.
So, just for sake of example lets say you have picked an affiliate offer from clickbank and it’s for FREE home electricity from solar panels called Solar Panels HQ. It’s purely for example but in case you don’t know this is a fairly hot topic and it will probably grow.
One of the most popular ways affiliate marketers get traffic to their offer sites is by article marketing with good, traffic producing content and the automatic SEO improvement by means of keyword text links in the authors resource box.
It’s just a GREAT two-for-one!
But there’s a catch to the great free site and domains you can get at Squidoo.
The catch 22 here is that Google will usually only show one Squidoo site in the top ten results. Sometimes, but rarely, two.
In order for Google to show YOUR Squidoo lens you’ll have to make your lens the best one in your group.
Think of it this way…Typically, Google will only pick ONE squidoo lens and ONE Ezinearticles and ONE video.
Having the product name in the title is one of the best things you can do so that Google will want to rank the site for “Solar panels.” Now, we can check out our competition! which is just another way of saying find out who we are up against.
I typed in this search in the Google search box. Type in… site: Squidoo.com “solar panels” and you will see approximately…. Results 1 – 10 of about 21,400 for site: Squidoo.com “Solar Panels”. (0.27 seconds)
Gee. That’s a lot. 21,000 or more sites mention “solar panels.”
So how many Squidoo sites are actually targeting that phrase?
Type in allintitle: “solar panels” site:squidoo.com – Results 1 – 10 of about 466 from squidoo.com for allintitle:”Solar panels”. (0.17 seconds)
Well. That’s less competition. but still quite a few.
Note: I picked one a few months back that came up with 775 in this search and I’m doing OK. But I would prefer LESS!
So I typed in “Home made solar panels” and got, with the allintitle search Results 1 – 1 of 1 from squidoo.com for allintitle:”Home Made Solar panels”. (0.16 seconds)
DUDE!!! Only ONE COMPETITOR AT Squidoo for Home Made Solar Panels! Amazon (among others) has an affiliate program for solar panels! Some of you aspiring affiliate marketers might want to get going on this!
Checking further I went to Google keywords Tool (type google keyword tool into Google search – you can learn a TON from Google searches) and got 2600 searches per month for “home made solar panels” and “home made solar panel.” You can’t get it much more targeted than that! The best key phrase would have to be “buy home made solar panels” which is a strong indicator of buying intention.
I checked the page one Google results for those terms and I saw that the results were filled with PR3 and PR4 sites.
You can handle those guys! Competition? Nada! You would want to get a few links from .gov and .edu PR 5 and 6 sites and I think you’ll soar right past them with a well targeted Squidoo lens and find yourself with the Holy Grail of Internet marketing. Which would be FREE TARGETED TRAFFIC direct to your offer by way of Google and the other search engines.
It really can’t get much better than that.
This real plan is current at 5PM Dec 24th 2009.
You might want to get moving!
Riley West has been happily telling people about simple affiliate marketing for quite a while now. The formula is Web Page with Offer + Traffic = Sales. You do need a place to put your offer, after all! See this spelled out at Squidoo Marketing and don’t miss out on the unique description of a simplified affiliate marketing plan at One Week Marketing.
Squidoo Lenses – How To Pick Your Name
By Riley West in Featured
Squidoo was a term from the 20′ and 30′s I think, and it was a slang phrase for “Get out while the gettin’s good.” Nope… that’s 23 skidoo! My mistake.
So then I looked it up in Wikipedia and this is their words exactly… “Squidoo is a community website that allows users to create pages (called lenses) for subjects of interest. Squidoo is in the top 500 most visited sites in the world, and in the top 300 most viewed in the United States.[1] Squidoo grew 91% in 2008, and had 900,000 handbuilt lenses as of February 1st, 2009.
Wow! 900,000 websites! Just on Squidoo! It boggles the mind.
But here is how it can work for you. This coming from the perspective of an online marketer AND a traffic hog. The more the better…almost, but I’d rather have good quality traffic than just big traffic.
First, when you get to Squidoo, you get a domain name AND a website hosted at that URL. Squids, who are just people who use Squidoo, refer to their their websites as “lenses.” Maybe it comes from being able to view a slice of the world through one of their lenses.
But a FREE domain name and website! And they make it easy.
That clears up a big hurdle that folks who want to earn money online face in the beginning.
One method by which small online marketers get the right people to their sites is by selecting a keyword that they can rank for. The keyword also has to be highly relevant to the content of their site.
So, say you had a good supplier of umbrellas and you wanted to make some affiliate sales for them.
You need a keyword that will let you into the market.
I checked “umbrellas” as a keyword except that the word is too broad and will have high competition and low quality of traffic.
I went to Google this is what I typed in… site: squidoo “umbrellas” and got Results 1 – 9 of about 11,700 for site: squidoo “umbrellas”. Way too broad! Plus I can’t compete! Good grief! There are 11,000 “umbrella” squidoo competitors. Give or take a thousand.
Why is that so important? Well, it’s more important than it would be if you had a free standing, self hosted site simply because Google will only show ONE Squidoo result most times and occasionally two on a page of ten search results.
So I went to Google this is what I typed in… site: squidoo “rain umbrellas” and got Results 1 – 10 of about 101 for site: squidoo “rain umbrellas”. Wow!
That’s a fine example of a “low competition” keyword. That’s just may way of saying not too much competition.
Now, go get a Squidoo site with rain-umbrellas first in the domain name and you are ready to to go. IF you have an umbrella supplier.
Now, go ahead and fill your site with all things rain umbrellas and do what it takes to get indexed by Google. This is imprtant because if you are not indexed Google WON”T show your site!
So what does all this show us?
It shows you where to get a website and domain name free.
It shows you how to pick a Squidoo lens domain name so that you will have a really good shot at Google showing YOUR offer up on Page One.
Page One on Google translates into traffic.
I think you can take it from here fairly easily.
Riley West – Squidoo Lenses can easily get traffic to your offers! And it’s quality traffic too. Use the information in this article AND in the FREE EBOOK at Make Money With Squidoo. Start now, get some commissions coming in. You can do this!
5 Surefire Tips To Increase Website Authority & Make Money Doing It!
By Joel McLaughlin in Featured
After a while, building links on an ongoing basis is very tedious work and some times the feeling of incentive is lost when working on your own websites. My main purpose for writing this article is to show options that are available for improving your websites authority while obtaining high quality links that really make a positive impact for your website. Website marketing needs to be fun, and you need to think of new ideas to lower the amount of time spent to earn a dollar. Working smarter than harder should be on everyones mind.
First off, I recommend that people consider becoming an author for About.com. Did you guys know that many authors on About can make anywhere from $650 per month and up in to the thousands, simply by being an expert in your industry and providing valuable information that increases About’s website traffic and page views?
The big benefit to working on About’s website as an author is that you are also building up your main websites authority, because they are more than happy to link to your website from pages that you create. About is one of the leading web power houses when it comes to information pertaining to thousands of topics. About is more of a basic version of Wikipedia that is compiled by thousands of authors. Ultimately, to become an authority on their website you need to have some industry recognition and great writing abilities, but if you need an extra few links to monopolize your niche online – this would be a great place to start!
Next, we need to talk about Squidoo. Squidoo is a beautiful place to really make some money, and it can be relatively easy if you are a talented writer that creates compelling information about your specialty online. The biggest part to succeeding on Squidoo is creating compelling information, interacting in the community with other Squi Doers and more. You can promote your product within Squidoo, you can make money from Adsense and Amazon as well as a few other affiliates and best of all; Build your authority!
Another great option is to create a compelling Ebook to offer from your website, and if it is extremely high in quality and well researched – you will be able to make some money from selling your Ebook and also generate some link bait because of the valuable information that others will likely link to. In order to increase link bait or authority, consider giving away the Ebook for 2-3 months for free, and tell people to act fast since the price will increase soon. Many websites such as John Chow have really seen link building success with giving away free Ebooks, that is something to think about.
Fourth, why not create external blogs and link to them from your main website so that they gain some trust from the search engines. Then constantly create posts that offer value to website users, and then either promote your product or implement affiliates like Commission Junction, Adsense or pull from one of the many advertisement firms that will allow you to serve ads on your website for a profit.
Fifth, you can always allow guests to post on your own blog and websites that are high in authority to improve your website traffic. As long as the article provided by guest posts is unique in nature and high in quality, you will drum up extra traffic for your website and encourage inbound links to the new content on your website. Some people get very conservative when it comes to allowing others to utilize their own website because people often times don’t want to help others, but if you open up this opportunity you will succeed. How do you think that WebProNews succeeded? They allowed quality publishers to really provide value on their own website.
When building links to your website, don’t always think about this moment. Think about opportunities to create a website that invites inbound links easily, because that is where the true search engine optimization experts succeed in the long term. The sites that perform the best in the search engines are often times not the ones that actively link build, they are the ones that add value to their website visitors and create an environment that obtains a plethora of inbound links.
I am sure there are a lot of additional ways to monetize while building up your websites popularity, and these are just a few. I am excited to hear from others about more ideas to build up website popularity while making a little “ching ching” at the same time.

Tips On Generating Traffic With Squidoo
By admin in Featured
A good way to market any business is though a Squidoo lens. This site is a social networking site like many others around but this one for me is unique in a way.
You can advertise on this site without the worry of getting penalized for it. Most social networking sites won’t let you advertise your products that is a big NO with other social websites.
The Lens
A lens is basically a portal to advertise on it is a unique template that allows you to put pictures on there video’s and products. You can make as many lenses as you want out of as many categories as you like.
Use the lenses to drive traffic to your main business site and create more and more sales for yourself.
How To Use Squidoo
Keywords are most important when using a lens. Lenses are WebPages and therefore get ranked in the search engines, just like your internet business gets ranked.
When you choose a url for your lens make sure that you include your primary keyword in this url, this url is going to be used to link you to other pages.
Long tail keywords are being used like crazy these days because they are so popular, use the Squidoo wizard to setup your lens.
One of the things I really like about the lens pages when your filling out the wizard is it gives you the opportunity to put your RSS Feed into the lens page, and search engines loves fresh daily content.
Update your lens three times a week at least modify it in some way but the RSS Feeds will help you do this as well.
Keep adding new content to your lens. Squidoo recommends that you make many lenses, but what there actually saying is use your long tail keywords for your lenses that you make based on your particular niche.
Start domination your niche by making yours unique, lets say your niche is about affiliate marketing, and you wrote about affiliate marketing handbooks, this would make your niche stand out from the rest because your writing about not just affiliate marketing but affiliate marketing handbooks which would be different from your competitors.
When you make your lenses and you have few up your sleeve link them together this is very powerful when it comes to search engine optimizing having all your pages linked together will bring more visitors to your business site.
The way you have to look at your lens is just pretend its your blog and link to your legitimate home business sites with it.
If you get high ranking lenses on Squidoo then you will receive all that traffic to your main business site. This technique is so powerful yet so easy to accomplish.
You have to remember that Squidoo is a social network site for adults so get involved with other peoples lenses and comment on what you see, ,make your comment truthful and to the point, this will give you more one way links to your website.

How to Dominate ANY Niche Using Squidoo
By Sudarmaji Lamiran in Featured
What’s Squidoo? It’s a Web 2.0 content site that allows you to share content and network with like-minded others. And if you’re a marketer, it’s a site that allows you to dominate your niche, build your list, and make more money. Just remember: today is the day of social marketing. Social sites are created daily worldwide. Niches are discovered in minutes. Money is ready to be made. Only the best wins! This is a new opportunity that nobody want to be leave behind. Countless new comers are jumping into the wagon to compete each other.
Sounds good, right? You bet! The problem is that not every body well know how to play their part and how to leverage their advantages. But tips described below will be the solutions. Here’s a quick and easy blueprint you can start using immediately…
1) Choose Long-Tail keywords
Google loves Squidoo. And that means if you optimize your site around long-tail keywords (those that tend not to have a lot of competition in the search engines), then you stand a good chance of dominating the search engines for those keywords.
Now, you probably know that keywords that don’t have a lot of competition from other marketers are that way for a reason. Namely, they also don’t get a lot of traffic. But collectively, optimizing for dozens of these sorts of keywords can bring in hundreds or even thousands of visitors.
TIP: Use WordTracker to uncover the best keywords with the smallest amount of competition.
2) Create Your Page
Once you have your long-tail keywords (like “how to train a poodle”), it’s time to create your Squidoo page. Ideally, you should use your keywords in your Squidoo Lens title, in your links, and sprinkled throughout your content at about a 3% to 5% density rate (meaning your keywords show up 3-5 times for every 100 words of content).
But don’t just focus on your keyword density rate and nothing else. You need to create a page that others will appreciate. And that’s because Squidoo members rate your page – the better rating you get, the higher your site will be ranked on Squidoo… and the more traffic you get.
TIP: Be sure to encourage people to rate your site!
3) Drive Traffic to Your Page
Next, you should promote your site by doing things like: Blogging about it; Exchanging links with other Squidoo members; Writing articles and submitting them to article directories; Telling your list about it.
4) Network With Others
Finally, you need to use the social aspects of Squidoo by networking with like-minded members. Comment on their blogs. Link to them. Get them to join your list of contacts.
Why? Because the more contacts you have and more respected you are in the community, the more traffic you’ll get… and the more money you’ll make. It’s as simple as that.
5) Get the Social List Building Ebook
Finally, your last step is to get your hands on the brand new “Smartway Social List Building” ebook, where you’ll discover the secrets of using social media sites to build a big, responsive list.

Search Engine Marketing Strategy – How To Get The No. 1 Spot On Google!
By John Lynch in Featured
Marketing your website to highly targeted customers can be accomplished most effectively by following this powerful search engine marketing strategy.
This search engine marketing strategy is working quite well for me…
First thing to do is find your keyword niche and base your search engine marketing strategy around this keyword phrase.
My search engine marketing strategy does NOT cost me a red cent!
First I went to wordtracker.com and used their free trial…
I then entered into the wordtracker tool my keyword “Internet Marketing” to get other related keywords along with each one’s KEI (keyword effectiveness index).
To maximize your search engine rankings look for keyword phrases with a KEI of 25 or higher. The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less competition they have. This means you have a great chance of getting to the top of page 1 on Google…
The Search Engine Marketing Strategy Holy Grail!
The keyword phrase I chose was the one at the top of wordtracker’s list with the highest KEI, in my case “online job search affiliate internet marketing program”.
Because Internet Marketing is highly competitive I like to use long tail keywords – or keyword phrases with 5 or more words.
I then wrote an article around the keyword phrase “online job search affiliate internet marketing program”. I put this keyword phrase in my article with just under 2% keyword density. This means my keyword phrase appears roughly 2 times for every 100 words in my article.
Anything higher than 2% keyword density might get flagged by Google as spam and kill your search engine rankings so try and keep it under 2%.
I then optimized my article by using the keyword phrase in the title, the first paragraph, the body, and at the end of the article. Don’t just stick the keyword phrase in your article to get it in, make sure your article makes grammatical sense otherwise it will appear “spammy”.
I posted my article on my blog and submitted it to the following 2 sites, for free:
=> squidoo.com
=> digg.com
My article titled “online job search affiliate internet marketing program” now occupies the top of page 1 on Google – and this all happened within a matter of minutes after posting it!
So in a nutshell all I did was write one article around the keyword phrase “online job search affiliate internet marketing program”, then posted it on Squidoo and Digg!
Then like magic in less than 30 minutes my article got listed on(and still is as of this writing)the first spot on page 1 of Google!
And this Killer Search Engine Marketing Strategy is totally FREE!
Want proof?
Type in the following phrase on Google: “online job search affiliate internet marketing program” (without the quotes), and you will see my article titled “online job search affiliate internet marketing program” in the no. 1 spot on Google…
A truly beautiful thing!
Now that you have a powerful Search Engine Marketing Strategy that won’t cost you a penny, all you gotta do is find some quality Affiliate Programs to promote.

Online Business Opportunities and Squidoo Lenses
By Jim Suzak in Featured
What the heck are Squidoo lenses and how can you relate them to online business opportunities? Squidoo.com is a web 2.0 website that specializes in hosting personal web pages for anyone who has 10 minutes to build one. They are referred to as “lenses” instead of website because each one focuses on a particular topic or idea.
You can create a lens for whatever reason. Whether you want to share your opinion on a particular online business opportunity or just complain about the electric company, Squidoo gives you a quick and easy venue for getting your message out to the masses. It it so easy anyone can do it.
Squidoo lenses are simple to set up, requiring absolutely no technical knowledge or programming experience. With a few clicks you can easily add youtube videos, Flicker photos, polling surveys, google blog searches, RSS and much more to your personalized lens.
In addition to providing a social outlet, Squidoo can also serve as a highly effective and risk-free marketing tool for your onlinebusiness opportunity. Below are the top 7 reasons you should create a lens to help give your online business opportunity a kick:
1. To increase traffic to your site. Squidoo lenses can include inbound links to your website, boosting your site’s credibility in the eyes of search engines and increasing your overall link popularity. Plus, the lenses themselves are indexed by search engines, so your personal page can achieve a high ranking with strategic keyword placement. Get a few links to your Squidoo lens and you can easily get your lens to rank favorably in search results for some competitive keywords.
2. To save money on advertising. Unlike costly print ads and direct mail campaigns, creating a personal Squidoo page won’t cost you a dime. It takes about 10 minutes to build a Squidoo lens and you can really boost your credibility and brand yourself as an expert in your industry.
3. To highlight multiple aspects of your online business opportunity. You can create as few or as many lenses as you want. It’s possible to have hundreds of different lenses focusing on different components of your business, all driving traffic back to your website.
4. To piggyback on other Squidoo pages. When your lens is nestled among hundreds of thousands of other interesting lenses, it’s more likely to benefit from the traffic generated by those neighboring pages.
5. To sell stuff. A great way to get your feet wet in the e-commerce arena, Squidoo lets you sell items from Ebay and Amazon and earn royalties from each sale. It also lets you have direct affiliate links to any of the affiliate programs you endorse.
6. To conduct surveys for your business. Squidoo pages are a great way to gauge consumer attitudes and reactions to new products and services. The Squidoo polling feature is really easy to set up and allows you to survey your customers.
7. To interact with potential consumers. Visitors to your lens can add their comments and links. Every time an update is made, it makes your lens that much more appealing and relevant to search engines.
If you’re still unsure about Squidoo, ask yourself just one question: what do you have to lose? It’s free and easy, which are two of the most desirable qualities for anyone promoting an online business opportunity! I highly recommend it!

HubPages Equals Free Traffic
By Jack Humphrey in Featured
Many of you may have heard of Squidoo which is a competitor of Hubpages.com. Basically both of them are a “free-hosted community of content producers”. Both Squidoo and Hubpages can be “grouped” into the Web 2.0 movement – where user generated content rules.
If you are already familiar with Squidoo, the your entrance into working with Hubpages will be very straightforward. Both Squidoo and Hubpages SHARE REVENUE with their content creators.
What Makes Them Similar, Yet Different?
From HubPages.com: “Hubpages purpose is to provide easy-to-use tools and traffic to help anyone to produce content and monetize their knowledge by creating webpages. There will be monetization programs to choose from consisting of products, advertisements and lead generation tools that each person can easily incorporate into their pages.
Hubpages will split revenue with the content creator. The pages are organized in the Hubpages website based on algorithmic quality index that promotes the best pages throughout the hierarchy (based on tags) of the website.
Each author will earn a reputation score called a HubScore that can be referenced to meter the quality of the content by an author. Hubpages will be positioned to take advantage of the significant numbers of new web content providers that want to supplement their income through content like many people do on eBay by selling goods.”
From Squidoo: “We divide up the money we receive in a very public way. First, we pay our bills. That’s direct out of pocket expenses like rent and servers and salary and benefits expenses (our CEO doesn’t take a salary, and neither does our board of directors).
Then, with no other deductions, we pay 5% of our post-expense revenue directly to the charity pool, 50% directly to our lensmasters and retain the rest to pay off investors and employees.”
So, other than the obvious revenue sharing, is there any other reason to consider using Hubpages? YES! As Hubpages is considered an authority by Google, you are able to make money with the Google Adsense that is on your hubpage.
Developing content on Hubpages should become an important part of your overall web marketing / promotional strategies.
In addition to your actual ‘hubs’ ranking on the various search engines, you can link directly to your other websites! And guess what? These backlinks are being ‘counted’.
So Hubpages can help you strengthen your entire marketing presence and ‘network of sites’. One of the best things about creating Hubpages and Squidoo lenses is that it can be outsourced.
Outsource the writing, and by doing so, you free up your time to create more Hubpages. Another great aspect of any free content hosting site, is that they have already built-in traffic from other members, and if you are applying your linking knowledge to this, you will be creating tons of back links…Power Linking!
Web 2.0 properties such as Hubpages and Squidoo have become an important part of our overall traffic strategy and works well in any niche market.
Remember, your competitors are most likely NOT on Hubpages so it is still a ‘land grab’.
