The galaxy has expanded.

That is, Samsung’s line of Galaxy phones has grown with the unveiling of the Galaxy S5. The phone, revealed in Spain Monday, is being touted as a return to the basics with “a refined experience with innovation of essential features for day-to-day use.”

SM-G900F_electric BLUE_02Samsung’s president of IT and Mobile Communications, JK Shin, said in a company press release the idea behind the new device was to go back to basics.

“Consumers are looking for mobile tools that inspire and support them as they improve their everyday lives,” said Shin. “The Galaxy S5 represents an iconic design with essential and useful features to focus on delivering the ultimate Smartphone on the market today through people inspired innovation.”

Those features include an advanced camera, the fast network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools and enhanced device protection features as consumers stay fit and connected in style.

The 16-megapixel camera has the world’s fastest autofocus with a speed up to 0.3 seconds. In addition, the new selective focus feature will allow users to focus on a specific area while blurring out the background.

The phone also has a perforated pattern on its back with a variety of colors including charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold.

What’s more interesting, though, is the S Health 3.0, a new program on the phone that offers a “comprehensive personal fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their behavior, along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and a new, built-in heart rate monitor.”
