Twitter has nearly one billion registered users — but about 44 percent of the social network’s 974 million members have never tweeted — not even once.
Newly released stats from Twopcharts, a third-party site that monitors the micro-blogging site’s activity level, have also revealed that of the 550 million that have tweeted — 43 percent have not tweeted for at least a year. Only 126 million have tweeted in the past 30 days and only 13 percent have tweeted at least 100 times.
According to Twitter stats, the social network had 241 million monthly active users during the last three months of 2013. A monthly active user is someone who logs into his or her account at least once a month, meaning a person does not actually have to tweet to be classified as a monthly active user.
Twitter has declined to comment on the stats, telling the Wall Street Journal that it does not comment on third-party data.
