Instagram Launches Free Photo Collage App

Instagram today debuted Layout, a free app that enables users to create photo collages.

Although collages can often be seen on the Facebook-owned network, they were accomplished with third-party apps, a fact that likely spurred Instagram to release its own.

“Today we’re announcing Layout from Instagram, a new app that lets you  easily combine multiple photos into a single image,” reads a blog post from the photo-sharing site. “It’s fun, it’s simple and it gives you a new way to flex your creativity.”

CollageUpon opening Layout, users will automatically be shown previews of custom layouts as they choose photos from their camera roll. The app also includes a ‘Faces’ option that shows all the photos in the user’s camera roll that feature people.

Users can drag and drop photos to rearrange them, pinch to zoom or pull the sides of each photo to adjust its size. Users can also flip and rotate their photos to create different arrangements and mirror effects.

Photo Booth enables users to simply tap a button to start a countdown and capture photos that can instantly be seen in a layout.

“From imagining mirrored landscapes to sharing multiple moments from an entire adventure, we’ve seen these kinds of visual storytelling happening on Instagram and we’re inspired by it,” the company said. “With Layout, it’s easier than ever to unlock your creativity — and we can’t wait to see what you’ll make next.”
