Facebook Gives You Glimpses of Your Past With ‘On This Day’

Facebook wants to take you back in time with its latest feature ‘On This Day.’

FB OnthisdayThe new tool displays status updates, photos and posts from your day in history going back one or more years.

“People often look back at old photos and other memories they’ve shared on Facebook, and many have told us that they enjoy products and features that make this easier,” said Facebook product manager Jonathan Gheller.

“On This Day shows content from this date in the past. For example, you might see past status updates, photos, posts from friends and other things you’ve shared or been tagged in – from one year ago, two years ago, and so on. Only you will see this content unless you decide to share it with your friends.”

To find your On This Day page, click on the On This Day bookmark, search for ‘On This Day,’ or visit It could also appear as a story in your News Feed.

Once you find the On This Day page, you can choose to subscribe to notifications if you want to be notified when you have memories to look back on. You also have the option of editing and deleting old posts and you can share your memories with friends.

“When you share a memory, you can choose which audience to share with,” Facebook’s Help Center reads. “Your memories can be seen by anyone who was in the original audience for the post. If you’re sharing a memory you originally posted, you can change your audience for the original post.”

On This Day will begin rolling out globally on both the Web and mobile.
