New Photo-Sharing App Launches on iOS
There’s a new fabric of photos being shared among friends and they’re all tied together with the same Thred.
That’s the name of the latest image-sharing app to be unleashed thanks to the man behind the popular computer game The Sims. Like other photo-sharing apps, Thred allows users to add captions, words and other items to enhance their photos but it does have a few features that are unique.
“One of the fundamental ideas behind Thred is a better way to create and consume content for mobile,” creator Will Wright told PC Mag. “We provide quick and easy access to the sea of personal and global data we swim through every day as building blocks for the creative process.”
Part of that is enabling users to create threds, a series of images tied together to tell as story. These threds can contain a number of images, links and other additions to exist as a virtual photo album.
The app, which launched Thursday and is only available for iOS at this time, took roughly two years of work. Wright told Forbes the app was borne from his fascination with the fact humans rely strongly on images to tell stories and with the growing use of Smartphones.
The two, he said, go together naturally.
“We all use our phones constantly, but they don’t connect us to our surroundings, they make us more removed,” Wright said. “Thred engages you with the world around you and builds community.”
