Instagram Debuts Curated Video Channel

Instagram used Halloween this weekend to test its up-and-coming curated video channel.

The Facebook-owned photo-sharing app compiled a collection of Halloween videos which it then posted for its users to view.

U.S. users of the app were greeted by a banner across the top of the site that read: “Experience Halloween with videos from across the country.”

Instagram told Re/code the trial launch was “just the start” and users could expect more in the near future.

“This is a new way to experience events and big moments, as they happen, through the eyes of the Instagram community,” an Instagram spokesperson told the publication.

A spokesperson told Wired Instagram’s Halloween compilation is the beginning of a major push into curated video content. The service is apparently planning to release similar content on other holidays and days of interest.

Instagram’s curated video efforts are nothing new. Both Snapchat and Twitter have released similar offerings. Snapchat, in June, launched Live Stories, a feature that compiles posts from a particular event into a single collection. Twitter challenged Live Stories last month with a new feature called Moments.
