Introduces New Section Dedicated to Tales of Superheroes
Holy comic books!
Fans of superheroes are probably feeling a little super themselves now that they’ve got a ticket to their favorite comic books thanks to an upgrade via Android. Smartphones and tablets that operate on the system can now display the graphics in a simpler, smoother manner.
Google Play Books senior product manager Greg Hartrell, in a blog entry, announced a minor adjustment that means a big improvement.
“Google Play Books is getting an upgrade specifically designed for comic book fans, making it easier to read your favorite comics on your phone or tablet,” he explained. “Reading a comic book is all about following the story and enjoying the art, dialogue and pace the way you want. But navigating a comic can be tricky on a small phone or tablet screen.
“So, we’re introducing a new vertical scrolling experience for comics in landscape mode. Flip your device on its side and you can easily scroll through the story with quick vertical swipes.”
Being able to read comics in a more convenient manner is fine, but what about expanding one’s library?
Turns out Google Play Books was ahead of the game in that department, too.
Hartrell stated in his entry there is now a specific comics destination in Google Play Books. Rather than offering a simple shelf, though, fans will be able to find personalized recommendations based on their reading habits.
These experiences will roll out to Android users in the next few days (with iOS soon to follow) in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K., India, Singapore, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.
