Pinterest wants to making shopping a little bit easier.
The social media site will now inform you whenever a buyable Pin you’ve saved drops in price.
“Say you’ve collected a bunch of gift ideas on your Holiday Shopping board. When that cashmere scarf for mom goes on sale, we’ll send you a notification so you can buy it right from the app,” Pinterest software engineer Wonjun Jeong said in a blog post. “Every day, there are over one million Pins with reduced prices, so you’re sure to find some good steals.”
The move comes two months after Pinterest expanded its buyable pins program, enabling thousands of new retailers to sell their wares to users of the virtual pin-up board.
Buyable pins enables users to do their shopping with their favorite retailers without leaving Pinterest. Shoppers can compare their color choices within the pin and, those who remain undecided can pin their favorite options for consideration later.
The ‘Shop our picks’ category displays products hand-picked by Pinterest and all of the newest buyable Pins are highlighted in the Shopcategory.
To make a purchase, users simply click the Buy It button and then pay with a credit card or Apple Pay, right from the app. Customers only have to enter their personal info once — Pinterest saves it for future purchases.
