BlackBerry Acquires Encription, Sets Up Cyber-Security Consulting Service

BlackBerry CEO John Chen

BlackBerry is leaping head first into cyber-security

The Canadian firm once famous for its Smartphones has debuted a cyber-security consulting service that further expands its enterprise security portfolio.

The BlackBerry Professional Cybersecurity Services practice is being bolstered by the firm’s acquisition of Encription Ltd, a U.K. cyber-security consultancy that services clients across the globe.

Although BlackBerry is not sharing the financial details of the deal, it made it clear that Encription’s specialties, which range from deep technical skills in software security to hardware capabilities, are a big part of its new cyber-security consulting service.

“BlackBerry is the gold standard when it comes to security and we’re always evolving to maintain this high standard as the complexity of enterprise mobility and security increases,” said CEO John Chen. “We recognize that security vulnerabilities are a top risk concern for public and private sector organizations alike. The creation of our Professional Cybersecurity Services practice and acquisition of Encription reinforces our commitment to providing customers the industry’s most secure mobility solutions and helping them to assess and mitigate risks.”

BlackBerry’s new global Professional Cybersecurity Services practice will help customers pinpoint the latest cyber-security threats, develop risk appropriate mitigation strategies, apply and preserve IT security standards and techniques and guard against the risk of future attacks.
