New Tab Will Show Area Driver Services Including Uber
Google Maps is giving users a lift thanks to a new tab.
Google’s popular map program has added a new tab when users search for directions, but this one’s all about finding a ride to the necessary destination. Basically, Google’s making it easier for travellers to get from A to B.
“When you search for directions using Google Maps on your mobile device, we’ll show you a dedicated tab with information for ride services—in addition to the existing car, transit, walking, or biking options you’re familiar with,” an entry in the Google Maps blog states. “So when you’re leaving work to meet a friend for dinner, you can easily compare your options to find the fastest way there, without having to open multiple apps.”
Google already has a partnership with ride service Uber and, naturally the service will be included in the information. However, Google’s now adding other ride services to the information. There will now be services in five countries included: 99Taxis in Brazil, Ola Cabs in India, Hailo in the UK and Spain, mytaxi in Germany and Spain, and Gett in the UK.
“Over the next few days, we’ll begin rolling out the new ride services tab on Android, and it will be coming very soon to iOS. So next time you’re looking to move around a city, open Google Maps on your phone to figure out your fastest mode of transport to get where you’re headed,” explained software engineer Holger Flier in the blog post.
