Update to Waze App Can Help You Avoid Speeding Tickets

Got a lead foot? Israel-based social-navigation app Waze can help.

00_gif speedometer 2_1In a blog post today, the Google-owned company said it can help its users avoid speeding tickets courtesy of a nifty little update.

“You probably know the feeling. You might be driving on a business trip or a road trip,” reads the blog post. “Or you might be driving down a road you’ve driven at least a thousand times. Suddenly it happens. You look at your dashboard and think to yourself, “What’s the speed limit on this street?” No need to worry, we got this.”

Live today in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, El Salvador, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad, Tobago and Uruguay is a new tool that notifies you when you’re exceeding the speed limit.

“Whether you’re driving on new and unfamiliar roads or a place where speed limits change with the season, you’ll no longer be in the dark,” Waze said. “Waze will keep you aware of your speed, reminding you to slow down and drive safely.”

Once the app is update, if you are driving over the posted speed limit, a visual alert will appear on your Waze speedometer and will not disappear until you alter your speed accordingly.

You also have the option of customizing the alert — via settings — so it appears when your speed exceeds the limit by five, 10 or 15 percent.

The new tool will be rolling out “soon” to the rest of the world.
