YouTube is joining the growing ranks of platforms offering mobile live streaming.
“Soon, we’ll be putting the power of YouTube live streaming in the palm of your hands,” YouTube product lead of immersive experiences Kurt Wilms wrote in a blog post.
“We think this will offer you an entirely new, more intimate and spontaneous way to share your experiences with your communities.”
YouTube mobile live streaming will be integrated into the heart of YouTube’s mobile app. Using the feature will be as easy as tapping the big red capture button. Next, choose a photo to use as a thumbnail and then begin your live broadcast. You will also be able to chat with fans “in near real time.”
Due to the integration with the YouTube app, mobile live streaming will offer all the features that are available with regular videos such as the ability to search for the video you want or find it through recommendations and playlists. You will also be able to protect your live video from unauthorized uses.
“And since it uses YouTube’s peerless infrastructure, it’ll be faster and more reliable than anything else out there,” Wilms added.
YouTube did not give a date on when the functionality would be available to all content creators.
