Apple is giving fans a sneak peak at just what Siri will be capable of ahead of the launch of its updated operating system: iOS 10.
The iPhone maker announced back in June at its World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) that iOS 10 would include a more advanced Siri with the ability to call for an Uber or Lyft ride. Other skills revealed included the ability to make a call using Skype or Viber, send a WeChat message or make a payment to a friend.
Apple, in a series of blog posts, is offering an even closer look at some of the skills Siri will possess. This one details how to use Siri to book a ride while this one talks about using Siri to send a payment using Square Cash or Monzo or send a message to a friend via WhatsApp or LinkedIn.
Yet another blog post details Siri’s new photo-searching capabilities.
Siri intelligence will also bring new QuickType features, including contextual predictions to surface relevant information based on location, calendar availability or contacts. Predictive typing will support multiple languages without switching keyboards.
iOS 10 will be available as a free software update for newer model iPhones and iPads. iPhones that can upgrade to iOS 10 are iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5. Compatible iPads are the iPad Pro 12.9-inch, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 4th generation, iPad with Retina Display (3rd Gen), iPad 2, iPad Mini 4, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 2 and the iPad Mini.
