Netflix Enables Offline Streaming — Finally

netflix-the-crownIt is music to the ears of every Netflix subscriber: offline streaming.

The entertainment firm today announced its subscribers can now download TV shows and movies to watch offline — meaning you no longer need Wi-Fi or a broadband connection to watch your favorite content.

“While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited,” said Netflix director of product innovation Eddy Wu.

“Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an Internet connection.”

Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown are all currently available for download as are a number of other series and movies. Not all content is available for offline viewing as yet, however. Many licensed shows and movies are not yet available for download. Even a few of Netflix’s own, like The Little Prince, cannot be watched offline.

The offline streaming feature is included in all plans and is available for phones and tablets running iOS or Android.

To begin using the new downloading feature, you will first need to update your Netflix app to the most recent version. Any questions or difficulties you might have are addressed in Netflix’s Help Center.

  • Netflix is finally offering something good apart from content. It was such a pain to always stay connected to stream a content.

  • This is great news and a longtime coming!! It seems that most of the content that can be downloaded are just Netflix Originals, which is completely understandable. Now the next thing that I need to do is get a larger Micro SD Card for my mobile device to download all this content.
