Snap Now Selling High-Tech Spectacles Online

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the chance to buy a pair of Snap Spectacles, the wait is over.

Snap SpectaclesSnap Spectacles are now available online to U.S. shoppers for $129.99. The device — a pair of sunglasses with a built-in video camera — comes with a charging case and cable. Delivery time, according to the Spectacles website, is two to four weeks.

Spectacles, which are available in three colors: black, turquoise and coral, are designed to capture “Memories,” says Snap.

“We’ve created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses,” reads a recent Snap blog post.

Simply give the device a tap to start making a 10‑second Snap. Lights on the glasses indicate when you are ‘Snapping.’ Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, enabling you to transfer your videos captured in Snap’s “brand new circular video format,” directly into the app.  Circular video is compatible with any device, offering a 115-degree field of view that plays back in full screen.

Snap, the company that operates popular app Snapchat, first introduced the high-tech glasses last November by parachuting Spectacles vending machines to select locations in the U.S. Known as Snapbots, the Spectacle-dispensing vending machines resembled large Minions. The first one landed in Venice Beach, near Snap’s headquarters, enabling nearby Snap fans to buy a pair.
