Samsung and Microsoft have teamed up to produce the Galaxy Book, a two-in-one device designed for mobile customers.
The Galaxy Book, introduced Sunday at the Mobile World Congress event in Spain, boasts elements of a tablet and a laptop and was built on the Microsoft Windows 10 platform, offering easy access to the full Microsoft Office experience.
“We believe collaboration with key partners like Microsoft is essential for innovation, as it shares our vision for building excellence in mobile productivity,” Samsung Mobile Communications’ B2B product management group senior vice-president Jeeho Baek said in a press release. “Enterprise mobility allows businesses to expand the boundaries with which they operate and workers to gain flexibility in how they work. Together with Microsoft, we hope to further solve the challenges our customers face by creating flexible and secure technology.”
Available in 10.6-inch and 12-inch models, the Samsung Galaxy Book offers secure communication between devices with Samsung Flow, a technology that enables customers to sync their Galaxy Smartphone with their Galaxy Book for a Wi-Fi connection through the phone’s mobile hotspot when a data connection is not available. The Samsung Flow app partners with Windows Hello to offer a secure login and notification display directly from the Smartphone.
“Microsoft and Samsung are working together to deliver innovative mobile experiences that help organizations with digital transformation, and the Samsung Galaxy Book is a great example of that focus in action,” said Microsoft partner devices and solutions vice-president Peter Han. “Samsung’s new Galaxy Book lights up digital capabilities of Windows 10, such as Windows Ink, that empower employees to achieve more by working in a more intelligent, portable and secure way.”
Available in black or white, the machine has three orientation modes – ‘PC’, ‘Easel’ and ‘Note’ – giving the user different options for working.
The 12-inch Galaxy Book runs on a seventh Generation Intel Core i5 processor Dual Core 3.1GHz and comes equipped with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage capacity. The 10.6-inch model runs on the Intel Core m3 processor, Dual core 2.6GHz and comes with 4GB of RAM and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of storage. Both models allow users to add additional storage via microSD card.
Both also boast long battery life and support 4K video playback as well as a multifunctional S Pen.
The S Pen’s 0.7mm tip enables users to make precise notes and detailed drawings and does not require a battery to function.
