Microsoft Teams Now Live for All Office 365 Users

Microsoft today rolled out its enterprise chat app Teams to all Office 365 users as the company looks to take on chief rival Slack.

Available in 181 markets and in 19 languages, the workplace-collaboration app has been fashioned to work with Microsoft’s suite of cloud-based Office products as well as with Skype. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint and Power BI are built into Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft-Teams-rolls-out-to-Office-365-customers-worldwide-2“Microsoft Teams is a digital workspace built on four core promises: chat for today’s teams, a hub for teamwork, customization options and security teams trust,” said Office corporate vice-president Kirk Koenigsbauer. “Microsoft Teams provides a modern conversations experience, with threaded, persistent chat to keep everyone engaged.”

Microsoft Teams comes with the ability to customize the experience from team-to-team and offers advanced security with encrypted data and  multi-factor authentication. Its threaded chat feature format enables team conversations that are visible to the entire team by default, although private chat capabilities can be selected as well. Users can also start voice and video meetings, as well as work with Microsoft Office documents, directly within the Microsoft Teams experience.

New features include audio calling from mobile devices and video for Android, with video coming soon to iOS and Windows Phone. There is now the ability to e-mail a channel including attachments, send messages with markdown-based formatting, and receive notifications about all posts in a channel.

The app can be used by a company to enable different groups or departments to chat and collaborate online in real time.
