Pinterest Lens Now Available to All U.S. Users

Pinterest’s Lens discovery tool is now available to all U.S. users of the social media site’s platform.

Launched last month to a small group of users, Pinterest has now expanded the beta program to include all users in the United States with Android and iOS mobile devices.

Pinterest LensLens is an experimental technology that allows you to put the camera in your Pinterest app to work.

“Now there’s a way to discover ideas without having to find the right words to describe them first,” Pinterest co-founder and head of product Evan Sharp said in a blog post. “It’s called Lens and it lets you use the camera in your Pinterest app to discover ideas inspired by objects you see out in the real world.”

Getting Lens is as simple as updating your app, tapping the search bar and then tapping the red camera icon. Next, you point Lens at an object and wait for some cool new ideas to pop up. You can use pictures on your camera roll as well to perform a search.

Lens also has some new features —from turntables to travel ideas. Simply swipe up to try them.

“Lens is still in beta, which means it isn’t perfect just yet,” Pinterest product manager for search Eric Sung said in a blog post. “It is pretty good with recipe ingredients and outfit ideas. And if you Lens a throw pillow, chair or piece of art over at your friend’s house, you should turn up some great ideas. But Lens is still learning, and doesn’t always recognize exactly what you’re looking for.”

Pinterest is relying on Lens users to offer up feedback when the tool fails to meet expectations. Simply tap the new + button to add a comment.

“As more and more people help teach Lens about more and more objects, soon it will earn its way out of the beta zone,” Sung added.

Pinterest is asking you to post your Lens results via screengrabs with the #PinterestLens tag so it can monitor the tool’s progress.
