Apple this week offered a sneak peak at its latest mobile video creation app offering iOS users a new way to share videos on social sites.
The free app allows users to combine video clips, photos and music to create unique videos to share via the Messages app or on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo and other social media sites.
Part of the Clips app is a feature known as Live Titles, a tool that permits users to create animated captions and titles using just their voice. Comic book filters, speech bubbles, shapes and full-screen animated posters are some of the options available.
“Clips gives iPhone and iPad users a new way to express themselves through video, and it’s incredibly easy to use,” Apple vice-president of Apps product marketing Susan Prescott said in a statement. “The effects, filters and amazing new Live Titles we’ve designed for Clips let anyone make great-looking, easily sharable videos with just a few taps.”
With Clips, users can make multi-clip videos on iPhone or iPad without timelines, tracks or complex editing tools. To shoot live video or take a photo, users simply touch and hold a single button. They can then customize the videos with filters, speech bubbles, shapes, emoji, animated backgrounds and customizable text. Live Titles text is available in 36 different languages.
Users can also choose from a variety of soundtracks that can be adjusted to match the length of a video.
Clips will be available on the App Store beginning in April. The app is compatible with iPhone 5s and later as well as the new 9.7-inch iPad, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad mini 2 and later, and iPod touch 6th generation. Devices must be running iOS 10.3.
