YouTube is finally offering a sneak peek of its revamped desktop design to a select group of users from around the globe.
Dubbed Material Design, the new version is being opened up in preview mode to enable the video platform firm to receive feedback and fix glitches before it is more widely released.
YouTube describes Material Design as “a unified system that combines theory, resources, and tools for crafting digital experiences.” Product manager Brian Marquardt says it enables YouTube to “deliver a beautiful, delightful and intuitive user experience.”
The new design, which conforms with the look of YouTube’s mobile app, introduces more white space and the removal of anything that is visually distracting or could potentially steal viewers attention from the content they are watching. Users will have the option of a dark theme if they are not keen on white.
Dark Theme, as YouTube calls it, helps to eliminate glare “and let you take in the true colors of the videos you watch … throughout your entire YouTube experience.”
You can sign up for a chance to preview the new design at youtube.com/new. If you find you prefer the original version, simply select ‘Restore classic YouTube’ from your Account Menu. You can also send feedback from the Account Menu setting.
