Amazon Debuts Echo Show Touchscreen Device

Amazon has added a flashy new gadget to its Echo line of devices.

Amazon Echo Show 2The voice-activated Echo Show, unveiled by the eCommerce firm this morning, features a touch screen and video-calling capabilities as well as the usual Dolby-powered speakers.

The digital assistant retails for $229.99 and is available for pre-order on

“Echo Show brings you everything you love about Alexa, and now she can show you things. Watch video flash briefings and YouTube, see music lyrics, security cameras, photos, weather forecasts, to-do and shopping lists, and more. All hands-free—just ask,” reads the Echo Show product page.

“Introducing a new way to be together. Make hands-free video calls to friends and family who have an Echo Show or the Alexa App, and make voice calls to anyone who has an Echo or Echo Dot.”

The Internet-connected device can surface lyrics on-screen courtesy of Amazon Music or stream music on Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn or iHeartRadio.

Using Amazon’s AI assistant Alexa, users can ask to monitor the baby’s room or see who is at the front door using compatible cameras from Ring and Arlo. Users can also turn on lights, control thermostats and more with WeMo, Philips Hue, ecobee, and other compatible Smart home devices.

Echo Show features beam-forming technology and noise cancellation as well as the ability to get smarter the more it is used. 

The device, which is available in black or white, will start to ship June 28.
