YouTube TV App Now Available for Smart TVs, Streaming Devices

YouTube TV is coming to the big screen — in your home, that is.

YouTube has announced the launch of its TV app which is currently rolling out to Android TV. The YouTube TV app will also be available in the coming weeks via Xbox One, Apple TV and Roku, as well as on Smart TVs including Samsung, Sony and LG.

“Today we’re excited to unveil the new YouTube TV app built for TV devices,”  YouTube TV product manager Okalo Ikhena said in a blog post. “If you love the simplicity of finding your favorite content on the mobile app, you’ll be happy to know you’ll still find our signature tabs on the TV app as well — home, live and library. Finding, playing, and recording your favorite live TV is as simple as before.”

The TV app offers:

  • The ability to control your live TV experience with your TV’s remote control or game controller.
  • A more “cinematic look” with a darker background on your TVs.
  • A Live TV guide geared toward the big screen.
  • Background playback.
  • The ability to pick up where you left off on another device.

YouTube TV is available in roughly two-thirds of the U.S. You can sign up at to be notified when it launches in your area.
